Chapter 90: Chapter 90: The Ultimate Scum Woman

Before Moira Sloan could make sense of it, Connor Quinn had already said, "You two chat," and turned to enter the kitchen.

He left without a ripple.

It was as if she was just overthinking things.

Watching Connor Quinn’s busy figure in the kitchen, Moira Sloan sat on the arm of the sofa, her alluring eyes giving a playful flicker.

’Is this man really that calm, or is his acting just that good?’

Leo Lawson asked, "He cleans up well and he can cook. You’re really not tempted?"

Moira Sloan lowered her gaze. What he’d said was true. "I got burned out on a seven-year relationship," she said. "I’m not interested in getting into another one."

Leo chuckled softly. "Mm-hmm."

Moira Sloan asked casually, "How did you two meet?"

Leo said, "He’s like you. He always came to my place for a drink, and we just got to know each other over time."

"Oh," Moira Sloan replied nonchalantly.

’That’s normal. There aren’t many places to relax and de-stress in Everwood County.’

’The KTVs are too rowdy, and pool halls aren’t much fun. Leo’s little tavern is definitely a good place to relax.’

Dinner was four dishes and a soup, plus a dessert.

At the dinner table, Moira Sloan affectionately placed food on Leo’s plate and gazed at him with tender affection. Throughout the meal, she didn’t give Connor Quinn even a single spare glance.

When she chanced a glance his way, she saw his tense expression, and the corners of her eyes would lift imperceptibly.

The meal wasn’t lively, but the atmosphere was pleasant enough.

Connor Quinn and Leo Lawson already knew each other and would occasionally chat about local life. Moira Sloan just listened, content to play a supporting role.

During the meal, Leo asked Connor, "Still not planning on dating?"

With a calm expression, Connor Quinn said, "I have someone in mind."

Leo’s acting was impeccable. He feigned curiosity and asked, "Who?"

Connor Quinn’s eyes flicked up, his gaze sweeping over Moira Sloan for a moment before he quickly retracted it. "I’d rather not say."

Seeing the look in his eyes, Moira Sloan bit the tip of her chopsticks, her fine brows furrowing slightly.

’Could Leo have been right? Is he still hung up on me?’

After dinner, Moira Sloan saw Leo Lawson out.

As they reached the bottom of the stairs, Leo suddenly said, "You know, I actually feel pretty sorry for Connor Quinn."

Moira glanced up. "What?"

Leo smiled. "Aren’t you curious? A guy like him, why is he still single at his age?"

Moira grinned. "His family situation?"

"More or less," Leo said.

Leo didn’t elaborate. He just smiled and said, "After today, given Connor’s personality, chances are he won’t bother you anymore."

"Mm," Moira replied absently.

After watching Leo leave, Moira turned and headed upstairs.

The moment she pushed the door open, the smell of smoke hit her.

Her fine brows furrowed. Just as she was about to speak, she heard Connor Quinn’s low, deep voice say, "Sorry."

Moira looked up at him and saw a hint of desolation on Connor Quinn’s usually impassive face.

The sight made Moira’s heart sink.

A moment later, Connor Quinn stubbed out his cigarette and started to walk away. Just as he was about to enter the spare bedroom, Moira frowned and stopped him. "Connor Quinn."

Connor stopped and turned his head, putting them side-by-side.

Moira pursed her lips. The atmosphere felt too heavy, so she put on a flirtatious smile, leaned her supple form against the wall behind her, and asked with a wry grin, "You don’t still have feelings for me, do you?"

Connor looked down at her, his eyes dark and heavy. "Is this funny to you?"

The smile on Moira’s face froze for a second.

Connor’s expression was serious. "Moira Sloan," he said, "you’re heartless."

Moira...

Moira didn’t even realize when Connor had gone back to the spare bedroom.

By the time she came to her senses, the door to the spare bedroom was shut, leaving her standing alone in the living room, her thoughts in a jumble.

She pursed her lips. Thinking of Connor’s words, and then of what Leo had said downstairs, she felt an uncomfortable knot form in her chest.

’To be honest, besides liking me, it wasn’t as if Connor had committed some unforgivable crime.’

’I had even been the one to suggest we become friends with benefits.’

’He’s homeless now, and his sister desperately needs money for surgery.’

’And in that situation, he had still fronted the money for Jean Hale’s hospital stay.’

’It was bad enough that I wasn’t grateful, but I had to bring Leo over to rub our relationship in his face at a time like this.’

’Am I being a bit of a scumbag?’
