Chapter 377: Tender Trap (Part 19)

An Jiayi understood that there was more to Wang Shao’s words. She smiled, her voice quite indifferent as she said, "Mr. Xie and I were never from the same world to begin with. Now that we’ve split up, it’s good for all of us."

Wang Shao was shocked to hear this. He was rather uncertain as he asked, "Who suggested the breakup between you and Mr. Xie?"

An Jiayi was momentarily taken aback, then smiled and said, "Mr. Xie is getting married. Of course, it was Mr. Xie who suggested it."

Wang Shao was half-convinced.

It wasn’t because An Jiayi said that Xie Zhang proposed the breakup, but rather, the reason for the breakup itself was puzzling.

It didn’t sound like something Xie Zhang would bring up, and it seemed more like it was suggested by An Jiayi herself.

Wang Shao’s face broke into a smile, and speaking softly, he said, "Jiayi, I know you’ve been going through a tough breakup lately, and you must be feeling down. How about this—I’ll give you half a month’s leave. Come back to work after that."

An Jiayi understood what was implied. Her smile faded a little as she said slowly, "Does President Wang feel that arranging work for me now might offend Mr. Xie?"

Wang Shao was hit right on the mark, and the smile on his face stiffened. Afterward, he sighed and said, "Jiayi, don’t blame me. This is just the way our circle is. If you and Mr. Xie had separated amicably, there would be no issue. But if things really... turned ugly, then I truly wouldn’t dare to employ you."

An Jiayi understood Wang Shao’s concerns and nodded, leaving calmly.

Wang Shao hurriedly picked up the cellphone beside him and called Xie Zhang.

A smile plastered on his face, he said enthusiastically, "Mr. Xie, are you free tonight for dinner?"

Xie Zhang was feeling irritable. Hearing Wang Shao’s invitation and guessing the reason, he said coldly, "My affair with An Jiayi won’t affect her job. Treat her normally, that’s all."

Wang Shao was taken aback by Xie Zhang’s straightforward words and then questioned, "Mr. Xie, about those scripts you previously mentioned..."

"Just give them as promised."

"Alright... alright!" Wang Shao was quite surprised.

In fact, the moment An Jiayi had left the office, he had already planned to start looking for a new lead actress, but now, with the assurance of Young Master Xie, he certainly wouldn’t defy him. He just smiled and said, "Mr. Xie, I understand your intentions. Rest assured, everything will remain the same for Miss An here."

"Mhm." Xie Zhang, growing impatient, pinched the bridge of his nose, speaking indifferently, "I won’t be attending dinner tonight; I have some matters to deal with. Let’s reschedule."

"Take your time! Whenever you’re free, just let me know, and I’ll arrange for Miss An to join us," Wang Shao said with a laugh.

"There’s no need to trouble her; she probably doesn’t want to see me right now, so don’t make it difficult for her," Xie Zhang said, his voice even more subdued. "Don’t let my personal issues with her affect her life."

Wang Shao’s heart skipped a beat.

He figured out that it must have been An Jiayi who initiated the breakup, and what’s worse, not only was Xie Zhang not angry, but he also had An Jiayi’s interests at heart. What kind of affection was this?

"Alright... I understand..." Wang Shao said, "I know what to do!"

Xie Zhang hung up the phone and ordered his assistant to have a car ready at the door.

Xie Zhang made a trip back to the Xie Family.

At that time, Xie Quan and Lin Le Yao were having a meal. Le Yao’s lively and generous nature greatly pleased Xie Quan, who treated her with a very kind and pleasant demeanor.

"Le Yao, don’t be restrained, just treat this place as your own home," Xie Quan said with a smile. "Next time, bring your parents over too. The chef here is quite good at Jiangnan cuisine, and I remember, your mother is a missy from Jiangnan as well."

Lin Le Yao smiled and nodded, "Thank you, Uncle! I’ll definitely bring my parents along next time! Dad was still talking about you a few days ago, saying that it was too rushed at the summit and he didn’t get a chance to speak with you properly!"

"Your father is now the vice president of the Chamber of Commerce, busy with a multitude of tasks; naturally, he’s busy," Xie Quan said with a smile as he picked some food for Lin Le Yao with the serving chopsticks, speaking gently, "I didn’t want to disturb him given his busy schedule."

Pleasant formalities, each party spoke with the utmost propriety.

Xie Quan greatly appreciated Lin Le Yao’s manner of speaking and so paused for a moment before segueing into the main topic without giving anything away, "I heard that yesterday, you met with Xie Zhang?"

"Yes, I saw him," Lin Le Yao smiled, "Xie Zhang is very talented and looks a lot like Uncle."

Xie Quan laughed heartily, "You flatterer, if I were your father, I wouldn’t know how happy to be; unlike Xie Zhang, that boy doesn’t have the gift of gab!"

"Xie Zhang..." Lin Le Yao smiled, "I like him very much, he would be very suitable to be my husband."

Lin Le Yao was clear about her intentions, she knew what Xie Quan wanted to hear, and thus didn’t hold back, giving a direct answer.

Xie Zhang was delighted, and he wore a satisfied expression as he nodded at Lin Le Yao, "I’m glad to hear that, I believe Xie Zhang will also be very satisfied with you..."

"I’m not satisfied!" Before Xie Quan could finish, Xie Zhang stepped in, a delicate and handsome young man following behind him.

Lin Le Yao’s previously appropriate smile changed dramatically upon seeing the person behind Xie Zhang.

She struggled to maintain her composure, staring unblinkingly at Xie Zhang with eyes full of surging anger.

Xie Zhang didn’t care, he stood still and scoffed, enunciating clearly, "I’m not satisfied."

"Xie Zhang!" Xie Quan stood up, his face livid with fury, "What nonsense are you talking about! And who’s that behind you! Don’t bring just anybody back home!"

Xie Zhang ignored Xie Quan and turned his cold gaze towards Lin Le Yao, "Miss Lin, may I have a word with you?"

Lin Le Yao bit her lip, a trace of embarrassment crossed her face, but she eventually stood up and followed Xie Zhang outside.

As she passed by the young man, her stride faltered subconsciously for a moment before she quickly caught up to Xie Zhang’s pace.

Xie Family Courtyard.

Lin Le Yao faced Xie Zhang’s back, her hands clenched into fists. She began to speak with difficulty, "Xie Zhang! What are you trying to do by bringing Ajin here?"

"Miss Lin, I’m not interested in whatever is between you and this young man, but I want to know what your parents would do if they found out he exists," Xie Zhang slowly turned around, his gaze indifferent as he watched fear flash across Lin Le Yao’s face with satisfaction.

"You’re using Ajin to threaten me? Xie Zhang, are you still human? I know about your relationship with An Jiayi and have been all for bringing you two together!" Lin Le Yao’s voice showed her anger, "Can’t we live in peace?"

"I’d like to live in peace with you too, but I can’t marry you right now."

Lin Le Yao sneered, "I don’t understand what you’re dissatisfied with me. Isn’t it good enough that we become a couple who share the same bed but dream different dreams?"

Feeling the moist and oppressive wind of the rainy season, An Jiayi’s face flashed in Xie Zhang’s mind; he pursed his lips and said in a low voice, "Jiayi doesn’t like it."

Lin Le Yao looked at Xie Zhang in astonishment, "Are you going to stay unmarried your whole life for An Jiayi?"
