After Divorce I Married a Tycoon-Chapter 196: Scarlett Jewel Gets Beaten
Scarlett Jewel’s heart skipped a beat.
’Did he find out about my plagiarism this quickly?’
’Why else would he be acting this way?’
’But even if he knew about the plagiarism, he wouldn’t need to get *this* angry.’
’Besides, even if he wanted to settle the score with me over the plagiarism, that would be something for the Sinclair Family to handle privately.’
’After all, he’d at least grant me that much dignity in public.’
’Even if he was utterly fed up with me.’
’Even if, at home, they had reached the point where they couldn’t stand the sight of each other.’
’But in public, he always put on a good front. He would never embarrass me in front of other people.’
’He was obsessed with his public image, after all.’
’He couldn’t let people know that he’d married the woman he cheated with, only for them to fight every single day, could he?’
’He didn’t want anyone to see how unhappy his life had become.’
’So, he must be acting like this because the event organizers were bullying me.’
’After all, bullying me, Scarlett Jewel, was the same as disrespecting the Sinclair Family.’
Scarlett Jewel immediately glared at the event staff.
She lifted her head proudly, shooting them a contemptuous glance.
"See that? That man is my husband, and he’s the heir to the Sinclair Family."
"The Sinclair Family, you know of them, right? The richest family in Rhonia."
"Kicking me out of the competition is a slap in the face to the Sinclair Family. You’ll all be sorry."
After speaking, Scarlett Jewel let out a cold snort and turned to walk toward Gavin Sinclair.
She called out to him in a cloyingly sweet voice, "Honey..."
"They’re bullying me, saying they’re going to kick me out of the competition. Are you here to back me up?"
"Kicking me out is a slap in the face to the Sinclair Family. You have to help me—"
Before she could finish her sentence, Gavin Sinclair raised his hand and slapped her across the face.
Scarlett Jewel was stunned by the blow, clutching her stinging cheek.
She stared at Gavin Sinclair, her eyes wide with disbelief.
"Gavin Sinclair, what do you think you’re doing? Why did you hit me?"
"Why?" Gavin Sinclair snorted coldly. "You’ve had a fine time abroad these past two years, haven’t you."
At his words, Scarlett Jewel’s heart plummeted.
’What did he mean by that?’
’Could it be? Does he know what I’ve been doing abroad for the past two years?’
"I... I didn’t."
Gavin Sinclair didn’t want to bring up her scandals in front of outsiders.
Her humiliation was his own.
He gripped Scarlett Jewel’s wrist tightly, dragging her toward the stadium exit.
When they reached the car, he roughly shoved her inside.
’Perhaps he was still showing some consideration for the child in her womb.’
’He was still clinging to a sliver of hope about the child’s paternity.’
’What if the child she was carrying was really his?’
Meanwhile, her wrist ached where he had gripped it, feeling as if the bones might shatter.
After he’d roughly shoved her into the car, Scarlett Jewel roared at him.
"Gavin Sinclair, what the hell is wrong with you?"
Gavin Sinclair didn’t say a single word the entire way.
He just drove, heading straight for the hospital.
The atmosphere in the car was suffocating and bizarre.
The anger radiating from him seemed to burn up all the oxygen in the car.
It left Scarlett Jewel struggling to breathe.
Realizing from the scenery outside that they weren’t heading home, Scarlett Jewel turned to ask Gavin Sinclair.
"Where are you taking me?"
Gavin Sinclair remained silent. His foot never left the accelerator as he sped toward the hospital.
When he continued to ignore her, acting as if he hadn’t heard a word she said, Scarlett Jewel’s own anger flared.
"Gavin Sinclair, I’m asking you a question. Are you deaf?"
"Shut up," Gavin Sinclair roared, his eyes filled with a dark, violent rage.
His shout made Scarlett Jewel flinch, her body trembling as she instinctively drew her shoulders in.
She asked defiantly, but her voice was much quieter.
"What... what the hell is wrong with you?"
Gavin Sinclair didn’t bother to answer her, simply driving until they reached the hospital.
Scarlett Jewel was confused. "Why did you bring me to the hospital?"
Gavin Sinclair parked the car and hauled Scarlett Jewel out.
Scarlett Jewel could see he was acting like a madman who’d lost all reason.
Fearing that Gavin Sinclair had brought her here to force an abortion, she refused to go into the hospital.
"I’m not going in! I hate hospitals... Besides, what is it you want?"
"What do I want?"
Gavin Sinclair let out a sinister scoff.
"Since you slept with so many men abroad, we’re obviously here to get a DNA test for the baby."
His words struck Scarlett Jewel’s mind like a bolt of lightning.
’He... How could he possibly know what I did abroad?’
’Did he have someone investigate me?’
’Impossible.’
’Even if he isn’t as gentle and caring as he used to be, he’s always believed every word I’ve said without question.’
’Why would he investigate me for no reason?’
Clinging to a sliver of hope, Scarlett Jewel started playing dumb, denying and trying to argue her way out of it.
"What... what are you saying? What men? I don’t know what you’re talking about."
"You don’t know?" Gavin Sinclair’s hand shot out, clamping around her throat.
The veins on the back of his hand bulged with the force of his grip.
It was clear he was using immense strength.
It was a strength born from a desperate urge to strangle the woman who had made a complete fool of him.
"Give me your phone," he snarled at Scarlett Jewel.
Scarlett Jewel could barely breathe.
’She couldn’t give him the phone. It held the evidence of her and Joel Jennings’s conspiracy to frame Claire Mercer.’
’There were also private photos she’d hidden away. Gavin probably wouldn’t be able to find them, but her conscience still pricked at her.’
"Give me the phone," Gavin Sinclair roared again.
Scarlett Jewel’s body shuddered at the force of his roar.
’She was genuinely afraid he would strangle her to death right then and there if she refused.’
So, she frantically fished her phone out of her purse and handed it to Gavin Sinclair.
Gavin Sinclair pulled up Weibo.
Scarlett Jewel’s scandal, along with risqué photos of her with more than a dozen different men, was still trending.
Seeing those photos again, Gavin Sinclair was still burning with rage.
He shoved the screen in Scarlett Jewel’s face, his voice a low growl ground out between clenched teeth.
"Now do you understand what I’m talking about?"
With that, he abruptly released his grip.
Choking and red-faced, Scarlett Jewel gasped desperately for air.
A moment later, a sharp pain flared across her face.
Gavin Sinclair had smashed the phone against her face.
She crouched down to pick up the fallen phone.
When she saw what was on the screen, the red that had suffused her face instantly drained away, leaving it deathly pale.
Her breath hitched, and she drew in a sharp, cold gasp.
"Who... who posted this? This... it’s fake. It’s photoshopped."
’How did the photos I’d hidden on my phone get online?’
’Who stole my phone, downloaded the pictures, and posted them online to ruin me?’
Scarlett Jewel was so angry she could barely breathe, and so terrified her heart nearly stopped.
"Photoshopped?" Gavin Sinclair sneered, his expression dark.
"They even got the mole on your chest perfectly clear. And you’re telling me it’s photoshopped?"
"Unless you got naked like that, how would anyone know you have a mole there?"
"I... It’s not like that! It’s not what you think, Gavin... Let me explain..."
As she spoke, Scarlett Jewel moved to take Gavin Sinclair’s arm.
Gavin Sinclair violently shook her off, his eyes filled with disgust.
"Get away from me, you filthy slut."
"Come with me for a paternity test. Right now."
At his words, Scarlett Jewel’s eyes flew wide with terror, and she began shaking her head frantically.
"I won’t go! I don’t want to go..."
’If I go, it’s all over.’
