Chapter 109: How can you compare to me?

Although they were only temporarily staying in an old stone house, Odian and the others quickly renovated the one Nina would be living in. Every corner was carefully repaired and polished, all for the sake of making her more comfortable.

The stone house was cleaned until it was spotless. The furniture and daily necessities were the best they could provide. Even the arrangement of the room followed Nina’s habits and preferences, and the color combinations matched her taste perfectly. It was obvious how much thought had gone into it.

Nina looked around in surprise. "Who arranged this place? It’s beautiful and cozy—I really like it."

It felt as if it had been tailored just for her.

"We all helped," Odian replied, "but Kith mainly took the lead."

Though he didn’t want to admit it, judging from Nina’s expression, she was very pleased. That damned tiger truly understood her tastes—it made Odian feel an undeniable sense of crisis.

He had studied her preferences too, but apparently he still fell slightly short.

Nina glanced at Kith, a ripple stirring in her heart.

Then she looked at the others, warmth blooming softly in her chest. "Thank you."

She was sincerely grateful for their effort.

That night, after washing up, Nina took out the elemental stone.

"Little Pearl, you can eat this now."

The spirit bead glowed cheerfully and slowly absorbed the stone.

A wave of heat flowed into Nina’s body. She felt her internal energy surge and expand rapidly.

When the absorption finished, delight flashed across her eyes. Just one stone had raised her power by an entire level.

She summoned her vine and tested it, thoroughly satisfied.

She still couldn’t compare to Odian and the others—but now she finally had some ability to protect herself. Escorting Tao’s group hadn’t been in vain.

And now that she could stimulate plant growth, she could even grow her own vegetables in the future.

Feeling pleased, she gathered the cubs into her arms and began petting them.

The three little ones rolled onto their backs in comfort, sprawled across her lap. The egg-babies rolled over too, clamoring for attention. She scooped them all into her embrace and continued massaging the three little ones.

"Nina, may we come in? It’s time to prepare the cubs’ milk," Kith called softly from outside.

The cubs drank milk before bed every night, and the males never missed it.

"Come in," Nina replied.

They entered quietly. Seeing her interacting with the cubs, their eyes softened with affection.

They skillfully prepared the milk, each feeding his own child, while Odian played with the egg-babies.

With nothing pressing to do, Nina experimented with her upgraded ability on a decorative plant nearby.

Kith noticed immediately—her aura felt stronger.

Had she wanted the elemental stone because it could truly increase her power?

During the battle with the seventh-rank mutated beast, he had sensed she’d used some temporary enhancement—but this felt different. The elemental stone had genuinely elevated her strength.

Kith silently committed the thought to memory.

Whether or not his guess was correct, Nina clearly wanted elemental stones.

Perhaps he could find more for her.

Aviel, seeing her use her power for the first time, was surprised. Nina possessed her own ability—and it was not weak.

He felt an unconscious surge of admiration. She was remarkable.

After feeding the cubs and playing with them for a while, the males returned to their own quarters.

Nina fell asleep holding her babies close.

The next morning, she sat down for breakfast. Finch brought over a bowl of porridge and a few side dishes.

"Nina... I made this this morning. Try it."

He nervously twisted the hem of his clothes. Despite practicing countless times, he still worried she wouldn’t like it.

Nina took a sip. Her brows relaxed.

"Thank you. It’s delicious."

Finch’s eyes lit up. "You—you like it?"

"I do."

Joy surged through him. He finally received her praise.

At that moment, Finch felt like running laps in celebration.

He watched her eat with sparkling eyes, like a child who had just been handed candy.

Seeing how deeply happy he was over a single compliment, Nina felt something complicated stir inside her.

She hadn’t expected her casual praise to mean so much.

"Would you like some sweet potato? I’ll peel one for you," Finch offered eagerly.

She nodded.

He selected a slightly slender one and peeled it skillfully. Nina seemed to prefer the thinner ones.

As she watched him, she noticed the backs of his pale, jade-like hands were dotted with red swelling and blisters.

Her brows furrowed. "What happened to your hands?"

"It’s nothing. I’m clumsy. I burned myself while cooking."

He quickly placed the peeled sweet potato in her bowl and hid his hands behind his back.

"I’ll treat them for you later," Nina said gently. "If you’re not good at cooking, you don’t have to force yourself."

"But I want to cook for you." His bright eyes fixed on her, filled entirely with her reflection.

The intensity of his gaze made Nina’s heart skip a beat. She lowered her head, saying nothing more.

Kith’s eyes darkened. Wasn’t Finch’s ability fire-based? How could he burn himself?

What a scheming fox.

After breakfast, Kith and Aviel took Yinny and Linny outside to practice their abilities.

Yinny’s wind blades sliced cleanly through branch after branch. Linny zipped through the air with energetic bursts.

The dragon and phoenix warriors cheered enthusiastically from the sidelines.

Didi watched, eyes filled with longing.

He burrowed into Nina’s arms, his mood subdued.

Sensing it, Nina asked softly, "What’s wrong, Didi? Why aren’t you happy?"

His small voice carried a trace of hurt.

"Mother... why do Yinny and Linny have abilities, but I don’t? Am I not good enough?"

Her heart melted.

"How could that be? Our Didi is amazing. Every beast awakens at a different time. Your brothers just awakened earlier. You’ll awaken too someday. Some awaken late but still grow very powerful."

Didi looked up at her. "Really? I’ll be strong too?"

Nina lifted him and kissed his forehead. "Of course. You’re so clever. You’ll definitely become a very powerful beast."

"Your mother is right," Finch added gently. "I awakened late, too. And look at me now."

Didi shot him a slightly disdainful look. "How can you compare to me?"

Finch sighed, "...I definitely walked into that one."

Didi clung to Nina’s clothes, resting against her. He felt a bit better, but a faint shadow remained in his eyes.

Nina stroked his back gently, something clearly brewing in her mind.

After Yinny and Linny finished training, she called them over.

"Cubs, let’s play a little card game."

She brought out small cards printed with different pictures—ones she had previously used to teach them object recognition.

Yinny and Linny ran over happily.

"We’re playing with Mother!"

The egg-babies rolled closer too, unable to join but eager to cheer.

Nina distributed the cards to the three little ones.

"Mother will ask questions. Whoever answers correctly gets a sweet candy."

The three cubs nodded enthusiastically, their little heads bobbing in excitement.
