Chapter 123: Chapter 123: Azure Vaughn’s Mistress Identity Exposed

After talking with Sherman Hathaway for a while, I took over part of Fern Tate’s work. It wasn’t too much and could give me some experience.

However, since I’m pregnant, I don’t dare to overwork myself, so I didn’t take on everything.

With the increased workload, I became busier, and before I knew it, two days had passed. Dylan Dawson told me he had found a new place to live. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

"If you don’t mind, I can pay rent and continue living here. It’s not good for you to live alone while pregnant without anyone to take care of you," Dylan said with a worried look before leaving.

"Don’t worry, Dylan. I’m fine. Besides, isn’t your new place nearby? If anything happens, I’ll shamelessly ask for your help," I was actually touched but also hoped Dylan would give up on me. I’m already pregnant; he shouldn’t be interested in becoming a stepfather.

Dylan sighed, didn’t make things difficult for me, and left with his simple luggage.

I have to say, having an extra person around makes the house much livelier. With Dylan gone, facing the suddenly empty room made me feel a bit melancholic.

It’s not that I miss him that much; it’s just that pregnancy hormones really amplify my emotions, whether it’s joy or sadness. They’re much stronger than before.

I pulled myself together, took a shower, and went to sleep. I needed to focus on work and life.

Luckily, Henry Preston hadn’t appeared for the next few days. I didn’t know if he went back to the country or was with Azure Vaughn.

As the weekend approached, the expansion department handed out a survey, listing a bunch of recreational activities. Each employee in the department had to fill out which activity they most wanted to participate in.

The activity with the most votes would be the weekend departmental gathering, essentially a company team-building event.

To my surprise, our department head also invited Fern Tate to join. After all, she was one of the first people in the branch’s expansion department and got along well with everyone.

Beside Fern was Azure Vaughn.

"Miss Hathaway." Azure always greeted me politely every time she saw me.

I found it grating and didn’t respond.

"Zoe, you don’t have to be so cold to her. The girl is quite polite," Fern spoke up for Azure.

Her words made a few colleagues glance at me, as my attitude towards Azure seemed odd.

Who would have thought that in just a few days, Fern and Azure became so close? Was it because Azure reminded her of her deceased sister?

Azure bit her lip, "Yardley, it’s okay. Miss Hathaway is probably just tired from work, so she’s in a bad mood. I understand."

Her understanding made Fern look gratified, although I didn’t know what she was pleased about.

This time the expansion department organized a villa dinner party. After participating in a few games, I sneaked off to a terrace to have some alone time.

Fern appeared behind me like a ghost, "Do you really dislike Azure that much?"

"Do I have to be on good terms with her?" I found it laughable.

"My sister used to dislike you that much too," Fern brought up Winter Tate again. "In the end, she sacrificed her life. Azure is a lot like her, but with a more gentle personality. Sometimes I wonder, if my sister had been more easy-going like her, maybe things would have turned out differently."

Oh, so that’s why she was so gratified earlier.

"Don’t talk to me about this. I’ve said it, I had nothing to do with your sister, never even knew her," I looked out at the distant scenery from my seat on a lounge chair, speaking calmly. "You should tell Azure instead, make her aware that she’s just a substitute, and let her understand the unique importance your sister held in Henry’s heart."

Fern didn’t like my attitude at all. She coldly said, "I told her she reminds me of my deceased sister, but I won’t tell her about my sister and Henry’s past. I’m not as malicious as you."

"I’m malicious?" I was truly amazed. "Just because of someone I never even met, I have to bear these unfounded accusations? Should I jump into a river to atone for your sister’s story as well?"

Fern looked at me with venom.

Feeling fed up, I got up and pointed at her, "Listen carefully, Fern. I’m not the third party between your sister and Henry, but Azure is the third party between me and Henry. Don’t give me that true love crap! If Azure reminds you of your sister, take care of her yourself. I’m willing to divorce Henry and let her become the mistress, that’s already my greatest kindness. Don’t push me to do something she can’t handle!"

As soon as my words fell, Azure and a few colleagues from the expansion department stood at the terrace entrance with drinks, stunned. Her face showed shock, grievance, and embarrassment.

Oh, and there were those indispensable fragile tears too.

The colleagues all heard what I just said. Although they mostly communicate in English at work, they understood Chinese too. Their expressions were quite awkward at that moment.

Azure turned and ran off, and Fern anxiously wanted to chase after her. Before she left, she turned to question me, "Was that necessary? You’ve already divorced Henry! Why are you still targeting her?!"

She then chased after Azure.

I let out a cold laugh, took a drink from a colleague’s hand, and nonchalantly teased, "See? Azure stole my ex-husband, and I still have to thank her? Otherwise, I’m malicious, huh."

The looks on my colleagues’ faces were quite colorful, and I wondered what was going through the minds of the few men swayed by Azure’s beauty.

I leisurely walked away, not caring if this little incident became gossip fodder. After all, in terms of what’s unpleasant to hear, it’s about Azure, not me.

Due to the issues between Azure and me, the event ended on an unpleasant note.

After leaving the villa, I headed straight for my car, intending to go home.

At that moment, Henry’s car appeared in the distance. He got out, showing no emotion on his face.

He didn’t return to the country after all, so these days he must have been with Azure.

Fern took Azure’s hand and walked past me. Then they approached him, and I didn’t know what they were saying, but soon Azure started to cry.

This world is indeed full of surprises. Fern harbored such resentment towards Henry; is she considering reconciling with him because of Azure’s appearance?

She looked like a sister entrusting her beloved sibling to someone else.

Henry listened, then abruptly turned his gaze towards me.

I truly cursed my perfect vision for being able to see his expression change so clearly through the distance.

From indifference to displeasure, then to tenderness, it was annoying to watch.

I got in the car, ignored Henry and the others, and drove off without a second thought.

Just as I got home, my phone rang. I thought it was Henry coming to defend his little delicate flower, but it turned out to be a call from Ivan Underwood.

Answering the call, Ivan said, "Joel Sutton’s looking for you. Did you block him?"

"Yes, why is he looking for me?" I asked while resting on the sofa.

I blocked Joel Sutton when I went abroad. Initially, I saw him as a means to find emotional balance, but later realized he was innocent in all this. He’s young and shouldn’t fall through the cracks of emotional entanglements, so I simply blocked him on all platforms.
