Chapter 222: Chapter 222: Moving Out

"Shut up! Are you annoying or what?" Henry Preston turned around and snapped.

Kitty shrugged, "I don’t annoy others, just you."

Giving her the number was the right choice; she could capture Henry Preston’s heart better than Azure Vaughn could.

I let the two of them bicker, while I dragged my tired body into the living room, closed the door, and then collapsed onto the sofa.

The phone rang; it was a call from Henry Preston. I directly hung up.

Without realizing it, I fell asleep on the sofa. When I woke up early in the morning, it was already past seven. I whipped up a quick breakfast and headed out to the company.

In a few days, I have a business trip to discuss a cooperation deal with that exclusive supplier, so I have to settle the company’s affairs in the next couple of days and resolve the issues on my mom’s side.

As I drove past Henry Preston’s house, I saw Kitty yawning as she came out of the door. She was wearing a black denim jacket and bell-bottom jeans, stretching, revealing her slender and soft waist.

Has she already stayed over at Henry Preston’s place? Impressive.

I ignored certain emotions in my heart and drove away.

"Miss Hathaway, the surveillance footage has been retrieved. When would it be convenient for you to come to the hospital?" I received a call from the hospital just as I arrived at the company.

"I’ll come over at noon!" I replied.

By noon, I hadn’t even eaten and rushed straight to the hospital, where I quickly viewed the surveillance footage from the night my mom was attacked.

There was a slightly chubby man, wearing a baseball cap and mask, who quickly entered my mom’s ward and left hurriedly in less than two minutes.

I could almost be sure he was the culprit, but the surveillance didn’t capture his face, only a vague body shape.

I went straight to the police with this footage.

When my dad returned and learned about these events, he was shocked and furious, but now we can only wait for the police investigation.

"Dad, I want to move to another place." I suddenly said to my dad.

"What’s wrong? Is Henry Preston bothering you?" My dad immediately asked.

I shook my head, "No, Nantelle Apartments is closer to the company. I want to move there for convenience."

My dad will retire after his birthday next month; until then, he still has to hold his position, and the company mainly relies on me.

He pondered for a moment and then sighed, "Alright, I’m also preparing to live in the company dormitory for this period. The house feels empty with your mom not home, and it’s no fun."

"Okay, Dad, take care of yourself. Mom will wake up sooner or later, and we’ll have to take care of her then." I advised.

"Alright." My dad nodded.

After discussing it with my dad, I quickly moved my things to Nantelle Apartments. The day I moved, Henry Preston wasn’t home, saving me the hassle.

The day before my business trip, I invited Ivan Underwood over for dinner.

He readily agreed, "Okay, I’ll be there around eight. Is that alright?"

"Sure, we’ll have barbecue." I replied.

This was the first time I was actively inviting Ivan Underwood, and he seemed quite happy.

I went to the supermarket, bought a lot of ingredients, and started preparing in the evening, washing and organizing the ingredients, setting up the grill, and arranging various seasonings and drinks.

Suddenly, the sound of rain came from outside, with a cold wind blowing in from the balcony. I ran to close the balcony door but unintentionally recalled the scene in Xylos on a stormy night when Henry Preston helped me close the balcony door.

Lately, I’ve become increasingly sentimental. When one is in adversity, everything becomes depressing, and memories flood back constantly.

Time gradually moved to eight, yet Ivan Underwood had not arrived.

I dialed his number, but there was no answer.

I waited until nine-thirty, and Ivan Underwood still hadn’t come and hadn’t returned my calls or texts. I sighed deeply and then called Tiana O’Connell, "Come over for barbecue."

"Sigh, I’m working overtime!" Tiana O’Connell replied helplessly.

"Alright, hang in there!" I replied, even more helpless, and after hanging up, I started tidying the table. Eating alone doesn’t give me much appetite.

At that moment, the doorbell rang. I was startled, thinking maybe Ivan Underwood had arrived, and felt a bit happier, quickly going to open the door.

However, standing outside the door was Henry Preston.

Henry Preston had been caught in the rain a bit, his hair slightly damp, and droplets of water clung to his black sweater, bringing a hint of early autumn’s chill.

"So, you moved here again to avoid me, is that it?" Henry Preston pushed past me domineeringly and walked into the living room. He looked at the grill and ingredients on the table with a hint of jealousy, "Are you waiting for Ivan Underwood?"

I didn’t close the door but silently tidied up the table, letting Henry Preston stand there watching.

"He didn’t come?" he asked again.

"What are you doing here?" I retorted coldly, holding a plate of steak.

Henry Preston pulled out a few napkins from the table, casually wiping the raindrops off his face, and replied nonchalantly, "Of course, I’m here for you. Your place hasn’t had any lights on for several days."

Ha, I really don’t know what he’s here for.

I walked toward the kitchen, "Now that you’ve found me, you can leave."

Henry Preston followed me. The apartment I bought isn’t very large, suitable for a single woman. I was still a college student back then and loved cozy little spaces.

So, the kitchen isn’t large either. With Henry Preston’s tall frame stepping in, it made the kitchen feel even smaller.

As I turned to leave, he nearly blocked the exit.

"I said I wouldn’t give up, so no matter where you go, I’ll find you until you come back to me," Henry Preston said, looking down at me, his tone leaving no room for argument.

"You have Azure Vaughn, Rosalind Sutton, and now Kitty isn’t enough either?" I said sarcastically, "Does Mr. Preston want to emulate ancient times with three wives and four concubines?"

Henry Preston frowned, "What do they have to do with it? I don’t even like them."

"Don’t you find it ironic? You had a thing for Azure Vaughn back then, got into rumors with Rosalind Sutton, and Kitty gets along well with you too. Yet, you say you don’t like them, ha." I laughed.

"I didn’t know my own heart back then, so I did some jerk things, but I can change," Henry Preston earnestly promised me.

I shook my head, "No, how many times do I have to say it? I don’t want you to change, don’t want your compensation, I just want you out of my life."

Instantly, Henry Preston’s aura turned cold.

"Azure Vaughn caused the death of our child, yet you still entangle with her, continue providing her with all sorts of connections. Henry Preston, do you really have a heart? Or do you even know how to love someone?"

My words rendered Henry Preston silent, his eyes flickered with frustration and helplessness, but he didn’t speak. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

Even if it was to retaliate against me for being with Ivan Underwood, to provoke me, he shouldn’t be entangled with Azure Vaughn.

I pushed Henry Preston’s arm, "Move aside, I need to tidy things up."

Henry Preston stepped aside, and after I walked out, he followed.

Suddenly, Ivan Underwood rushed in at the doorway, stopping when he saw Henry Preston and me in the living room.
