Chapter 97 - 97: Chelsea's Proactive Strike

Chelsea showed no intention of leaving. Instead, she casually sat down on Blayn's bed.

"Remember back at the Imperial Assassination Unit's base? We slept together every night, and you were always all over me~," she teased, propping herself up on her hands.

"That was... because I didn't know you were actually the black cat," Blayn replied, feeling slightly awkward.

"True," Chelsea said with a smirk. "But now that Kurome's gone off to sleep with Akame... how about I keep you company tonight?"

"Don't joke about things like that..."

Blayn assumed she was just messing with him, so he remained calm.

"I'm not joking. Or is it that you had no problem when I was a little black cat, but now that I'm a beautiful girl, you're getting shy?" Chelsea's grin turned a little mischievous.

"...Do whatever you want. If you really don't mind, then I don't either," Blayn said indifferently, refusing to take the bait.

If she was serious, well, he wouldn't exactly be at a disadvantage.

But there was no way she was serious.

Any second now, she'd huff and leave in embarrassment.

That was exactly what Blayn expected.

And sure enough, Chelsea stood up, tossing the stick from her finished lollipop into the trash.

"'Whatever I want,' huh? You said it~," she said playfully before heading for the door.

Blayn watched her go, unsurprised.

As expected, she was just messing with him. She wouldn't actually go through with something so bold.

...

Or would she?

After Chelsea left, Blayn went to take a shower and prepare for bed.

But just as he was about to lie down, there was a soft knock on his door.

"Who would come this late?"

Blayn frowned in confusion.

It couldn't be Chelsea again, could it?

He got up and opened the door—only to find that, yes, it really was Chelsea.

This time, however, she had already changed into her pajamas, her damp hair showing signs of a recent bath. In her arms, she clutched a pillow.

"...What are you doing?"

Blayn was momentarily speechless.

Was she actually serious about sleeping here?

"You said it was up to me, didn't you? So here I am~," Chelsea said with a playful smile.

Then, without hesitation, she turned around, closed the door behind her, and locked it.

With that, she walked over and placed her pillow on Blayn's bed.

"Are you serious?"

Blayn suddenly felt like he'd been completely caught off guard.

He never imagined she wasn't joking.

"What else?"

Chelsea sat back down on his bed, her face showing not a hint of embarrassment. "I already told you, I wasn't joking. And honestly, I get kind of scared of the dark when I'm alone. If I'm with you, I won't have to worry about that."

That last part was a lie.

A trained assassin afraid of the dark? Ridiculous.

She had only said it to cover up the bit of shyness creeping up on her.

After all, no matter how bold she acted, she was still a girl around Blayn's age.

"...Is that so?"

Blayn didn't bother questioning whether she was telling the truth.

What mattered was that this situation was already crazy enough.

Sure, he had slept beside Chelsea in her black cat form for days, but that was completely different. Back then, he hadn't even been sure if the cat had originally been a boy or a girl.

Sleeping beside a cat and sleeping beside an actual girl were two entirely different things.

If she had transformed back into her human form back then, he never would have touched her so casually.

And by "touching," all he had really done was rest his hand on the small cat's body for convenience. That way, if she made any sudden movements, he would wake up immediately.

Now, though, Blayn didn't say much. He simply lay down as if nothing was out of the ordinary.

If she, as a girl, wasn't embarrassed, it would be ridiculous for him to start acting shy.

"...But this bed is kind of small, don't you think it's a bit cramped?"

Blayn suddenly realized the issue.

"It's fine. If it's too small, we'll just sleep closer together," Chelsea said casually.

"Alright."

Blayn shifted slightly toward the edge of the bed, maintaining some distance so it wouldn't feel too crowded.

The room was pitch dark, and they were lying back to back. Neither could see the other's face.

Because of that, Blayn didn't notice the faint blush that had crept onto Chelsea's cheeks.

Despite all her confidence earlier, she couldn't completely suppress her nervousness.

After coming to terms with her feelings for Blayn, even if she wasn't entirely sure what those feelings meant yet, she had decided to trust her instincts.

Especially since she had already identified Kurome as her biggest rival... and then there were Mine and even Seryu as potential threats.

With so much competition, she figured she might as well take the initiative and make her move before anyone else did.

Besides, she was naturally bold and outgoing—not like Mine, who always played hard to get.

She was going to win.

Chelsea was even thinking that if she made her move now, maybe Blayn wouldn't be able to resist.

He was a guy, after all. And at his age, well...

If things went all the way, that wouldn't be so bad either. It would be exciting, actually.

...

But then she calmed down.

That was rushing things way too much.

She had never done anything like that before. Just thinking about it made her a little nervous.

Better to start with something simple—maybe just holding hands or a kiss.

...

However, just as Chelsea was lost in her thoughts, Blayn had already fallen asleep.

After a long while, she still hadn't felt him move.

"...Blayn, are you asleep?" she whispered.

Blayn, who had only been in a light sleep, woke up instantly.

But instead of answering, he chose to stay silent and continue sleeping.

All she could hear in response was the steady rhythm of his breathing.

He really had fallen asleep...

"......"

Chelsea blinked in surprise before letting out a quiet, self-deprecating laugh.

She had spent all this time overthinking things, getting herself flustered... and yet this guy just fell asleep like it was nothing.

Now she felt like she had been getting worked up over nothing.

And, honestly, that made her feel a little embarrassed.

At this point, she had to admit—she was feeling a bit frustrated.

So, as revenge, she decided to pull a little prank on Blayn.
