Alpha's Lost Luna Returns With His Twins-Chapter 144-Alone With The Water Monster
Kash:
"Me and my dad always have one little drink on special occasions," Lara whispered to me as we stood outside her father’s office.
She was the one who had planned everything. I let her believe she was guiding me.
I had seen how excited she looked at the idea of taking the lead, especially because I wanted to be done with Iris.
"I’ll slip this medicine into his drink, and he’ll fall asleep. He’ll never figure out what happened," she whispered, covering her mouth as she snickered, as if it were something to be proud of.
When she noticed the look I gave her, she straightened her posture and tried to explain herself.
"I used to do that too when I was a teen and sneaking out," she mumbled, shrugging. "He was always very strict with me. I didn’t like it."
To avoid throwing her off, I smiled and acted impressed.
"So you’ll do it tonight?" I asked and she nodded.
"All that for me?" I added, making sure the plan was solid.
"Of course. I’ll do anything for you," she replied, smiling as she placed her hand on my chest.
I quickly caught her hand and moved it away but was sneaky about it.
"So what happens next?" I asked.
She tapped her chin gently.
"Then I’ll be the one to take you toward the Blue River," she explained. "No one will say anything. Don’t worry. A lot of the warriors there can be bought easily. They just need to be sure I’m not going into the cave to do something reckless. They’ll let me drive around the area."
I began to wonder if tonight might be the night I could get the water.
That would be a real achievement, and it would make Iris happy. Maybe all her worries would finally fade.
"And then you can sneak in and get the water," she whispered. Her fingers tangled together as she watched my face closely.
"Yeah," I replied. "And then I will just leave Iris."
"This is my wedding gift to you, and your wedding gift will be to finally be only mine. I don’t like her interruption in your life," Lara said as she gently touched my cheek.
I smiled and held her hand again, stopping her from touching me. I had to be subtle.
I was too close to getting the Blue River water. I could not lose it now.
"You’re right, my love, and that will be my gift to you," I agreed, only for the sake of what I wanted from her in return.
"I’ll be in my room waiting then," I told her, and she smiled with ease.
Of course, the dinner plan was canceled because she would be having a private dinner with her father.
She said she would make it seem like she was missing father-daughter time, and I could tell her father loved her enough to be happy having dinner with just her.
As I walked away, she went into her father’s office to get his attention.
While she was busy with her father, I decided to go check on Iris. I felt bad that just a few minutes of intimacy had left her looking so worried.
Was she upset that Luca might find out and judge her for it? Or was it something deeper that I needed to understand?
At the very least, I wanted to comfort her and tell her there was a plan in motion.
However, when I reached her room down the hallway, I heard voices inside that caught my attention. I did not go inside and listened.
"Tell me, what is it? You look so sad," Luca said to Iris.
"Nothing. There’s nothing wrong," she replied calmly, though I could still hear the tension in her voice. I wondered if he noticed it too.
"Iris, look at me. You can’t hide it from me."
The way he said that made my heart pound harder.
"I told you it’s nothing. Did you speak with the children?" she asked. "They were asking to go somewhere. Since Kash will be taking Lara out to dinner tonight, my kids wanted someone to go out with them."
My body tensed. If only I could spend time with my children without interference, without complications, Iris would not have to ask someone else to be there for them.
"You can make any plan you want, and I’ll be here," Luca replied.
The way he tried to win her over made me clench my fists. The thought of it irritated me more than I wanted to admit.
I listened as they continued talking and making plans, and then I realized I could not stand there any longer.
I went back to my room to rest and wait for the right time. I even watched Iris leave with my children and Luca for dinner, but I had to be patient.
Later, after Iris returned and put the kids to bed, Lara came to my room with a bright smile on her lips. It was around midnight then.
"What is it?" I asked, smiling at her.
"It’s time," she said, making my heart race.
Still, I needed to be completely sure she had not made a mistake. So I went straight to her father’s room. Sure enough, he was sleeping deeply.
Lara looked anxious, but she was holding herself together for my sake. I could tell.
"Now let me drive you to the cave," she offered, watching me give her a nod.
It would have been much simpler if I had not experienced that strange moment earlier. But I did not tell her.
I followed her and got into her car. She was going to be my ride for the night.
Once we neared the cave, I had to slip out without the warriors noticing me while she continued driving around so they would not find anything suspicious and would keep her in sight.
I quickly went inside the cave, and sure enough, I remembered the water creating the patterns.
It was still the same, but this time, the moment I stepped closer, I felt it pulling me in.
Keeping my heartbeat steady, I adjusted my black jacket and kept walking.
I even had to rub my hands together because it grew colder with every step I took toward the water.
