Chapter 276: Riven alone

Riven looked around the dungeon, no idea where to go, panic gripping his heart.

"Hey, calm down, take a deep breath," Twilight said.

"I can’t calm down, the three of them have been captured, and it’s my fault," Riven said.

"And how exactly is it your fault?" she asked. He opened his mouth to respond, but no words left his mouth.

"Exactly, you don’t know your sin, yet you blame yourself for it," Twilight said. "What happened isn’t your fault, you did nothing. The only thing that would be a sin is if you don’t take action now that it has happened.

So take a deep breath, grip your sword, and forge ahead."

Her words gave Riven strength and clarity. He nodded his head. "Yeah, that’s what I need to do now," he said calmly. He looked up and slowly scanned the area. Then he found a path and a trail that led through it. It was faint, but he could see it.

"Come back, hellhound." He unsummoned it and rushed through the path, sword in hand. He rushed through there as fast as possible; he had already wasted enough time.

As he moved, three undead knights appeared and attacked immediately. The first came with an overhead slash. Riven dodged to the side and parried the attack. He pushed the knight back, but it returned with a powerful slash.

Riven blocked; his sword was pushed to the side. Another knight used that opportunity to push forward, thrusting for Riven’s guts. Riven reacted quickly and stepped to the side. The blade grazed his side and drew blood, but it was nothing heavy. He gritted his teeth and pushed forward, slashing downward into a gap of the armor. Then he blasted his flames through the armor, throwing the knight back.

The other two came from both sides, one went high and the other went low. Riven pulled back fast, dodging their attacks, but they were relentless, coming at him again with more attacks. His eyes darted around quickly; he couldn’t dodge them all.

He cast a flame wall to block one to the side and then parried the other. He pushed forward on the one he parried, slamming the knight into the wall. The knight bounced back immediately and hacked down with all its strength. Riven moved out of the way, his eyes following the blade as it made an arc down. It hit the ground and cracked the floor. The second had made its way around the flame wall by this time and rushed toward him.

Riven attacked. He cast flame blast. The knight tried to block the attack, but the explosion threw him back instantly, slamming him against a wall and heavily damaging the armor.

’These knights are far more resilient,’ Riven thought. All three got back on their feet, their swords in hand, ready to go again. They rushed forward at him.

"I have to take care of this faster," Riven muttered. Then he gripped his sword. Without hesitation, he ignored hellsfire. The orange flames burst out like an explosion, their glow filling the entire surrounding. The heat was so immense that it burned some weak rocks.

He slashed in a rotation. "Flame arc," he bellowed, every muscle in his body tensed, his eyes focused. He gritted his teeth as he endured the flames. The arc shot out; it burned even the air as it cut through.

The knights couldn’t dodge the attack. The massive flame arc cut through them all clean and without hindrance. Their bodies collapsed to the ground.

Riven stood there. He watched as they died. He took a deep, long breath and kept walking after picking their crystals. His palms and hands were already slightly burned from hellfire.

He ignored the pain and kept walking. Since he didn’t know where to go from here, his best bet would be to follow the normal path and find the stairs that led to the lower floor.

He walked for a bit and searched the surroundings, then finally found the stairs. But there was a massive party of adventurers there, at least twenty people.

He didn’t want to interact with anyone, but he didn’t have much choice. He walked forward, head down, eyes empty, clothes dirty, and body wounded.

He made it to the hole that led to the lower stairs. There were spiral stone stairs going down, deeper and deeper into the hole.

As he walked past, a few people spotted him. A man immediately yelled, "Hey, kid!" His voice cut through the air and the chatter. Everyone stopped what they were doing and looked at the kid walking past.

They all found it immensely strange that he was down there, but that wasn’t the strangest thing. It was the air around the kid—it was heavy and dark.

Riven ignored them all and kept walking. This pissed off the person who had called him, so he walked toward Riven. He stretched out his hands and tried to grab Riven, but Riven reacted instantly. His hands grabbed the man’s arm, and his sword already reached the man’s neck.

Everyone was stunned at the speed. Never did they think they would see something like this. Riven looked at the man with hollow eyes, then let go of the man’s hand and kept walking. Everyone watched in shock.

’Why did I react that way? It was as if my body was reacting on its own. Everything is pissing me off. I don’t want to be near them. I should go,’ he thought and kept walking.

The man got on his feet, pulled his sword, and rushed at Riven in anger. He swung the sword; a flame wall rose up and blocked the attack. Riven snapped his head to the side, looking at the man.

’This fucker won’t leave me alone,’ he thought. His anger spiked. He looked at the man and wanted to take him down right now, but he needed to reserve his strength. He couldn’t take down twenty people, so he kept walking ahead.
