Angel Monarch-Chapter 428: Pain is Love
Xinya stared up at her mentor with an emotionless expression. She kept fiddling with her sweaty hands behind her back.
The awful silence spreading across the room felt heavy, causing her anxiety to further spike. The tall, gloomy figure's glowing, dark eyes stared down at Xinya full of disappointment.
He reached out with one hand and grabbed the pale woman's jaw harshly. Xinya just closed her eyes, waiting for her expected punishment.
"Xinya… My sweet little Xinya. Why do you disappoint me constantly?… Last time I protected you from those fake Masters, but my patience isn't endless either. It's also not helping your failure this time is much worse than not capturing the Princess!"
She opened her mouth to say some excuse, but at that moment, her mentor squeezed Xinya's jaw. A loud crack echoed in the otherwise silent room, and soon a small, broken scream followed it.
Her vision turned red from the pain, and when her mentor let go of her jaw, she fell to her knees. While gasping for air, her eyes travelled back to the gloomy man.
Light reflected on his monocle. His unruly, midnight black hair kept his face in constant shadow. He stood straight, leaning forward on the metal cane in his hand.
"I don't need any excuse, Xinya. Believe me, I know this isn't easy. You never fought against opponents with such diverse and powerful fighting prowess. That's why you should try outsmarting them instead of going head-to-head!"
Xinya nodded slowly, which her mentor didn't like. Quick as lightning, he moved and hit her head with the metal cane's crow skull handle.
She couldn't even follow his movements and before realizing, she was already laying on the ground. Blood trickled down her face, from where the crow's beak cracked her skull.
Slowly, she moved back to her kneeling position. Her wound regenerated quickly, but the wound in her heart couldn't heal nearly as fast.
"Stop acknowledging my words. I know you aren't deaf!… You failed to keep the main base hidden, and now we need to move the operations center to another base. However, the worst failure was you failing to keep your pet out of danger!"
This time, Xinya didn't make any noise or moved her body. Still, her mentor didn't find this response satisfying, so the cane hit her head once more.
Before she could've climbed back to a kneeling position, the gloomy man reached down. He grabbed a handful of Xinya's silvery-white hair and lifted her off the ground so they could see eye-to-eye.
"You should probably find your pet. If not, we'll make another one… Don't you remember the last time? You enjoyed it so much, didn't you?… However, given the difference in our Ranks, you likely wouldn't survive this time!"
Xinya squirmed under her mentor's hand, which earned another hit, this time between her eyes. She flew a few meters back, tears and blood mixing on her face.
She glanced up at her mentor with blurred vision. The gloomy man walked towards the door, where he stopped and glanced back. His lips stretched into an amused smirk as he spoke.
"Since you can't do anything on your own, I'll send a few Masters to help… Also, they'll bring Slayer. I'm sure he won't fail to kill the Princess and anyone else who opposes you… Use him wisely!"
A shiver ran down Xinya's spine upon hearing that name. The Masters she didn't care much about, they're just prideful Stellars. Even she can control them with relative ease… Slayer, though. He's a wildcard, purely unpredictable…
Xinya knelt on the ground in shocked silence. By the time she regained her sanity, her mentor already left through the door. She really wanted to object bringing Slayer to Antarctica… Not like he would've cared about Xinya's opinion.
She took deep breaths, her heart rate gradually increasing. Eventually, her anger and frustration boiled over.
With a small, contained scream, she punched the stone ground, cracking it easily. Stone fragments flew into the air as she kept on hitting the room's floor.
Her emotions mixed together. She hated herself for failing to secure Lin. She hated the Princess for kidnapping her son. She hated the world for putting her in such an awful situation.
The only person who she couldn't hate was her mentor. Somehow, even after all the suffering he caused, she kept looking at him for guidance.
He was the only person who Xinya truly cared about. Nobody else's opinion mattered, only his. Nobody else could order her around, only him. Nobody else could beat her up, only him.
Xinya loved her mentor, at least she believed it was love. She constantly sought validation from him. She accepted any punishment he deemed necessary. She wanted to never leave his side.
While the pain he caused bruised her heart. She simply believed it was her mentor's love language, as if he was a broken person who could only communicate his feelings by causing hurt in others.
Each wound felt like a lovely kiss. Ever since that night over 14 years ago, Xinya couldn't get her mentor out of her mind.
It's a shame she could never bring herself to recall that painful night's memory. The pain he caused back then was so horrible, both physically and emotionally. It broke her mind completely… It felt like a love confession…
A smile grew on Xinya's lips just from recalling all the beautiful pain he caused. But deep down she also felt a different emotion… Sadness...
She ignored that emotion, which she bottled up years ago. Instead, she marvelled in the delightful ecstasy of suffering by her lover's hands!
The only real shame Xinya felt with her mindset was her inability to love anything else. Even her own child, whom she painfully given birth 14 years ago… She simply couldn't feel anything towards him…
When Vicky kidnapped him, she felt nothing but relief. Like one of her long pressing issues was finally solved.
However, she needed to get him back! Her Transcended body could never survive making another child with her mentor… Their difference in Rank would kill her probably even before giving birth…
It would be even worse than carrying a Transcended's child as a regular teenage girl…
Xinya violently shook her head when an unwanted, painful memory tried to appear in her mind.
Instead of thinking about her situation any further, she stood up and left the room… She needed to inform her lieutenants about the news…
Tai and Chang waited for her nearby the room she trashed. They stared at her with sympathy, but neither said anything about her mentor's treatment.
Throughout the years, they learned to ignore the strange, abusive relationship between the two. They were weird too, so they had no right to judge someone else. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com
Other than them, everyone else had already left the cavern. Luckily, Lin didn't know the exact location of the other bases, so for now they were still safe.
However, they weren't stupid and knew that eventually the Angelic Order will find their other hideouts too.
Xinya took a deep, tired breath. She then glanced up into Chang's blood-red eyes and into Tai's many bug-like eyes.
"My mentor said he'll send a few Masters to support our invasion… Also… They'll bring Slayer as well!"
Tai immediately cursed angrily, while Chang went pale and began trembling. The news wasn't what either wanted to hear.
"That's bad… That's really fucking bad! What are they thinking sending that insane maniac!… I thought they wanted to capture Antarctica. Not destroy the entire human population of the continent!"
Chang's miserable, terrified voice echoed in the cavern as he walked back and forth. Tai seemed a bit more reserved, but shared the same sentiment.
"We can't control him. What if he decides to attack our own people on the battlefield? Even the Masters couldn't stop him easily!"
Xinya just sighed and shook her head. Her shoulders fell, as if the weight of leadership physically pressed down on her shoulder.
"You think I don't know! There's nothing I can do! Neither the Masters nor my mentor would listen! They would simply punish me for disagreeing!… However, if my mentor decided to bring Slayer into the play, then he probably has a way to control him!"
Tai calmed himself down upon hearing his friend's words. He still didn't agree with the higher ups' decision, but they couldn't do much to change their opinion… Chang, though, wasn't afraid of voicing his opinion…
"What do you mean he can control Slayer! You know how many Stellar that madman killed!?… Five! FIVE FUCKING STELLAR!… Even you can barely hold your ground against one, and he fucking killed them!"
The lanky man began hyperventilating as the stress overwhelmed his mind. Luckily, Xinya knew exactly how to fix this issue. She stepped forward and slapped the lieutenant so hard, he instantly hit the floor with a loud crack.
After a few seconds, his laughter echoed through the cavern, and he jumped to his feet with a wide grin.
"Thanks, Boss! I forget how little I care about self-preservation! I care even less for the citizens of Antarctica, so Slayer can eat and kill whoever he wants!… I only care about my love, Missy! I hope I can fight her again someday!"
Tai shook his insectoid head, seemingly both disappointed and relieved by his friend's words. He was really concerned that Chang would stop serving as the insect's comic relief.
Xinya only nodded towards the lieutenants and opened a portal with her dao. Together they stepped through and left the evacuated main base for good!
