Chapter 199: Chapter 179 Zaboru Tests Master Ninja
Zaboru then started playing Master Ninja, navigating to the main menu, where the options "Play" and "Continue" appeared. Without hesitation, he selected "Play," and the game's introductory narration unfolded in classic 8-bit text.
The screen displayed an 8-bit Japanese Sengoku-era castle with the text: "In the year 1580, during the twilight of Japan's Sengoku period, the land was ravaged by war, betrayal, and dark forces lurking in the shadows."
As the scene transitioned, a dramatic massacre played out—ninjas clad in Kurokage garments were being slaughtered by a mysterious figure wielding bloodstained swords. "The once-great Kurokage Clan, a secretive order of elite ninja, has been wiped out by a mysterious warlord known only as The Obsidian Daimyo. Rumors swirl that this warlord wields forbidden power, using ancient artifacts and dark rituals to control the minds of samurai lords and bend them to his will. The Kurokage Clan's downfall was swift and brutal, their legacy erased from history—or so it seemed."
The screen then zoomed in on a pair of determined ninja eyes. "Unbeknownst to The Obsidian Daimyo, one ninja survived the massacre: Hayate, the youngest and most skilled apprentice of the Kurokage Clan. Left for dead in the ashes of his village, Hayate awakens with a burning desire for vengeance and a duty to restore his clan's honor. Armed with only his wits, a black and red katana, a rusty kunai, and the fading teachings of his masters, Hayate embarks on a perilous journey across feudal Japan to uncover the truth behind his clan's destruction and stop The Obsidian Daimyo's reign of terror."
The screen transitioned to Hayate, clad in sleek black and red ninja attire, staring at the ominous silhouette of the Obsidian Daimyo's castle. "I will kill them ALL!" he declared.

And with that, the game began.
Zaboru nodded, analyzing the introduction and thought, 'Not bad. The story borrows a lot from Ninja Gaiden, but it still feels fresh and cool.'
As he started playing, Zaboru immediately noticed the gameplay similarities to his own Metal Gear project. Instead of a codec system, enemy conversations appeared in text boxes above their heads. He guided Hayate through the first floor of the Obsidian Castle, testing out the movement and combat mechanics.
Hayate could attack with his katana for close-quarters combat or switch to throwing shuriken via the inventory system. When Zaboru pressed the O button, Hayate would attempt to hide—either by staying against a wall or slipping behind pillars. Scattered throughout the levels were various weapons and items, including a ninja scroll that Zaboru soon discovered.
"Ninjutsu: Muon Kazeho (Silent Wind Step)," the scroll read. Upon activation, Hayate's movement speed increased significantly.
"Hmm, not bad. Not bad at all," Zaboru murmured as he experimented with more items. Among the weapons, he found poison kunai and a venomous sword. Items included distraction tools like small bells that Hayate could throw to lure enemies to specific locations.
Then, there were the powerful Ninjutsu abilities:
Ninjutsu: Kawarimi no Jutsu – If Hayate was struck, he would instantly teleport away, leaving a wooden log behind as a decoy.
Ninjutsu: Gen'ei Bunshin (Illusion Clone) – A spectral duplicate appeared, tricking enemies and temporarily drawing their attention away.
Ninjutsu: Shungoku Kagekiri – A devastating assassination technique that allowed Hayate to teleport directly behind an enemy and deliver a lethal throat slash.
Zaboru smirked. "This is getting pretty interesting. The Ninjutsus are cool"
After a while, he reached the first boss battle—a towering samurai clad in heavy armor, wielding a massive odachi sword.
A dramatic cutscene played: "The Obsidian Daimyo is not here, Kurokage pest! I will annihilate you, just like the rest of your clan!" roared the boss.
The battle against The Big Brute Kenzan commenced. He swung his colossal odachi in wide arcs, performed powerful thrusts with immense force, and leaped into the air for devastating downward slashes.
Zaboru skillfully dodged and countered with swift katana strikes. His vast gaming experience gave him an edge—he didn't even die once from start to now. Within 20 minutes, he had already reached the first boss, a feat that left the onlookers stunned.
Akechi, Kazu, Yugo, and several other employees gathered around, watching Zaboru in awe.
"I'll be damned," Akechi grinned. "I thought I made this game difficult, but you're making it look easy. Heh, I thought you were just good at making games. Turns out you're good at playing them too."
With precise movements and strategic use of Ninjutsu, Zaboru defeated Kenzan. The battle ended with an epic finishing move—Hayate slashing through Kenzan with his katana in a cinematic slow-motion sequence before the samurai collapsed in defeat.
As Kenzan lay dying, he uttered his last words: "You... you fight well, Kurokage remnant... but you will not survive the darkness ahead. The Obsidian Daimyo's power is beyond your comprehension!"
The game progressed, revealing that the Obsidian Daimyo was not in his castle, prompting Hayate to venture into the dense, eerie forests beyond." There are many stuttering here and there when i'm playing it , but overall it's fine the Stutter not not broke the gameplay experience.
Zaboru leaned back and nodded in approval. "Solid game so far. The pacing, the challenge, the atmosphere—it's all really well done. I want to see how far this goes. Let me keep playing—I want to beat this. Anyone who wants to sit and watch, go ahead!" he chuckled.
More employees gathered, intrigued by how their CEO handled the game with such ease. Some even took notes, analyzing how Zaboru tackled each challenge, spotting bugs, or areas that needed polishing. This impromptu playthrough had turned into a mini live QA session, something Akechi deeply appreciated.
With that, Zaboru continued his deep dive into Akechi's Master Ninja, eager to see how the game would evolve and whether it could hold its challenge throughout.
