Apocalypse Foodie System: Watch Her Cook!-Chapter 206 - 201: Father and Son Showdown
Song Yunxiu looked at the half of a small face peeking out from the crack in the door, holding his breath nervously, afraid of scaring the child inside. Tang Yuan was just as startled, hiding behind the door to spy, without realizing Song Yunxiu would suddenly turn his head!
Too unfair!
He was stunned for quite a while before coming back to his senses, and once he did, he wasn’t satisfied with his own reaction — he was just gawking stupidly! Tang Yuan adamantly refused to admit that silly little kid was him, so he squinted his eyes deliberately, pursed his small lips, and glared at Song Yunxiu with a critical gaze, then raised his chin triumphantly—so ugly! He’s way worse off than me!
When Tang Yiyi came out with the dishes, she saw Song Yunxiu turning his head toward the game room, and the door, which was originally closed, somehow opened just a crack!
She immediately spotted Tang Yuan hiding behind the door! Tang Yuan was feeling proud, but when he sensed her gaze, he panicked, instinctively pushed the door shut, and locked it from inside. Song Yunxiu was left looking at the suddenly closed door, feeling increasingly disheartened.
Tang Yiyi pretended not to have seen anything and placed the dishes in front of Song Yunxiu. She initially planned to exchange a few pleasantries, but upon noticing the dwindling dishes on the table, realized they were merely enough for her meal, surely insufficient for Song Yunxiu!
Moreover, she had already eaten half her lunch, and what remained on the table were leftovers, hardly fit to offer a guest. Remembering Song Yunxiu’s guidance and care over the past days, as well as the purpose of his visit, she felt a bit awkward: "Um, the food is almost gone, how about this, I’ll go make a bit more in the kitchen, just wait a moment, it’ll be ready soon!" She said, collecting the leftover dishes from the table and heading to the kitchen.
Song Yunxiu initially wanted to say "It’s fine," but recalling the brief glimpse he caught of Tang Yuan earlier, he swallowed his words, nodding in agreement.
Once Tang Yiyi closed the kitchen door, he turned his head again, looking at the game room door. Simultaneously, Tang Yuan stealthily unlocked the door and opened it slightly. Their eyes met once more.
Tang Yuan secretly glared at Song Yunxiu for a while, seeing him just sitting there without doing anything else, gained more courage, unconsciously widening the gap to get a clearer view.
Song Yunxiu had been eager to rush over and hold him ever since seeing Tang Yuan’s face, but worried about scaring the child or making Tang Yiyi upset, he restrained the urge, sitting honestly in his seat. He had no idea that Tang Yuan missed his "good intentions," instead chalking him up as a ’paper tiger,’ thinking there was nothing scary about him!
As the gap grew wider, Song Yunxiu finally saw Tang Yuan’s chubby, round face! Song Yunxiu was utterly struck — Tang Yuan looked almost identical to how he did as a child! Looking at Tang Yuan was like seeing a miniature version of himself, a feeling both familiar and bizarre! 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
Everyone has a bit of narcissism, it just varies in degree. Despite keeping a straight face and seeming like an unapproachable iceberg, Song Yunxiu was quite self-absorbed because of his exceptional nature from a young age.
No matter how others see it, in his own view, he was flawless! So seeing Tang Yuan, practically a spitting image of himself, the joy and pride within him were indescribable.
Yet, Tang Yuan was too young, pampered by Tang Yiyi into a chubby state, dressed in a cartoon-printed, cream-yellow, little T-shirt and light blue shorts. Seeing this face so similar to his, he felt immensely happy yet embarrassingly ashamed!
Tang Yuan felt chills from being stared at by him, couldn’t help but shrink back, hiding behind the door, but after doing so, felt cowardly and humiliated! Angry, Tang Yuan pouted, yanked the door open, and marched over to Song Yunxiu in a huff, looking up at him with a disgruntled glare, and muttering in a low voice: "What are you staring at? Ugly freak!" Racking his brains, he realized he couldn’t think of any other way to attack Song Yunxiu.
Afterward, he raised his head triumphantly, his face filled with the proud expression of "I’m way more handsome than you."
Song Yunxiu didn’t mind Tang Yuan’s feeble attack; he was just stunned by Tang Yuan’s expressive face — he never knew his face could make such rich expressions!
Unable to resist, Song Yunxiu reached out with his "sinful claws," gently ruffling Tang Yuan’s head. Tang Yuan, young with short hair, had exceptionally soft hair. The moment Song Yunxiu touched it, he was smitten with the warm, soft feel, wishing he could cuddle Tang Yuan close and ruffle him more.
Tang Yuan’s eyes widened in fright, backing away quickly, cowering against the wall while glaring at Song Yunxiu, his little paw shaking as he pointed: "What do you want?"
Seeing him on the verge of tears, Song Yunxiu concluded Tang Yuan needed some ’guidance’ — a boy shouldn’t be so timid! Yet, it being their first meeting, he didn’t want to leave a bad impression on Tang Yuan, so he fought against the urge to hold him, effortfully adjusting his facial expressions to seem more amiable, softening his voice: "Can you tell me your name?"
Yet, lacking a mirror and overestimating his facial control, adjusting his usually deadpan face to appear friendly was truly challenging. He intended to smile, but it turned out distorted, and coupled with his deliberately soft voice, he sounded like the wolf in a fairy tale, prompting Tang Yuan to label him a "big bad guy," howling at the top of his lungs: "Mom! There’s a bad guy!"
Tang Yiyi was in the kitchen stir-frying, the soundproofing of the room was decent, so she didn’t catch the earlier sounds, but at Tang Yuan’s cry, she finally noticed, rushing out with her spatula in hand: "Tang Yuan! Where’s the bad guy?"
Scanning everywhere in sight, she didn’t spot any unwelcome intruder but saw Song Yunxiu having a standoff with Tang Yuan. After scrutinizing Tang Yuan, she realized he was unharmed, just crying for effect, while Song Yunxiu sat obediently in his chair, nothing seemingly amiss.
Nonetheless, she quickly moved to Tang Yuan, soothing him with her free hand, while glaring at Song Yunxiu suspiciously: "What’s going on?"
Song Yunxiu watched her quietly, appearing particularly innocent: "I just asked for his name, and he suddenly started crying."
Tang Yiyi looked at Tang Yuan suspiciously: "Why are you crying then?"
Tang Yuan clung tightly to Tang Yiyi’s leg, trying his best to hide behind her while poking his head out to make faces at Song Yunxiu! When questioned by Tang Yiyi, he lifted his face, pouting pitifully: "He looks scary!" (to be continued.
