Apocalypse: I Built the Infinite Train-Chapter 144: The Gate
Gear up. Load your weapons.
The survivors rushed to reinforce the spaceport defenses.
Woooo—!
The 1130 CIWS cannons roared, their bright tracer rounds illuminating the night sky. Above, the massive silhouettes of Sky Jellyfish slowly pulsed as they approached. On the high walls, an overwhelming tide of zombies climbed relentlessly.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
Preloaded missiles streaked into the zombie horde, striking giant humanoid grotesques and black centipede-like creatures clinging to the rail tracks. Even more bizarre, new eerie entities emerged from the darkened streets—monsters Lin Xian had never seen before.
These eerie entities were indiscriminate, devouring zombies as they advanced toward the spaceport.
The high-powered floodlights seemed to make them uneasy, forcing them to stay in the shadows or attempt sudden ambushes. Some creatures scaled the walls, ripping apart soldiers before retreating under heavy fire.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
With more survivors and ability users joining the fray, the Iron Guard Brigade finally gained some breathing room.
"Don't you guys think… the number of zombies and eerie entities in this city is way too high?"
Lin Xian sat in the airport shuttle, watching the chaotic battlefield unfold.
KIKI frowned as she observed the burning high walls.
"It’s like they all received some kind of signal—they’re swarming toward us."
"Could there be a zombie leader controlling them?" Lu Xingchen mused.
"Didn't we just hear about that Corpse Shepherd? Maybe you’re right," Jiang Yun responded.
"Speaking of which," Lin Xian turned to Jiang Yun, "I heard you ran into the Black Crow Four—how did you end up working with the emergency response team?"
Jiang Yun, still wearing sunglasses, glanced back at him.
"My team and Big Beard’s convoy were at Ping’a Lake when we encountered the S-Class Atmospheric Jellyfish. The Iron Guard Brigade was there too…"
Lin Xian recalled something.
"A few hours ago, we took down the Black Crow Four with Shu Qin and Xu Jin."
"Really? Well done. That saves me the trouble."
Jiang Yun smiled faintly, though his expression held a trace of sorrow.
"This journey has been full of danger. Not everyone makes it out alive."
Lin Xian fell silent. He knew Jiang Yun had deep ties with one of the Black Crow Four—it must have been hard for him.
Beside him, Shasha was loading grenade rounds into her launcher. She carried a massive backpack filled with ammunition Lin Xian had prepared for her.
At first, Lin Xian had designed a bulletproof backpack to help her carry extra ammo, but it was too heavy—the small girl could barely stand upright.
So instead, he planned to build her a custom exosuit when he unlocked his external armor designs. Shasha had no abilities and was still young, and Lin Xian didn’t feel comfortable letting her run around battlefields unprotected. At least she had Big Luo to watch over her.
Meanwhile, Wei Kexue, the engineer, was furiously typing on his laptop. Suddenly, his expression changed.
"Not good. The monsters are getting smarter—they’re converging on A-Gate."
His words chilled the room. It was just like Lu Xingchen’s joke about a zombie leader—except now, it felt all too real.
A-Gate: The Breaking Point
BOOM! BOOM!
The thunderous gunfire and explosions grew louder as their shuttle approached the collapsing A-Gate.
Hundreds of Iron Guard soldiers were holding the line, but the massive gate had been forced open by about two meters—enough for hordes of zombies to squeeze through.
On the high walls, machine guns and artillery rained fire upon larger grotesque entities, but the sheer volume of corpses piling up was blocking the gate from closing.
"Big Luo, Shasha—cover us with long-range fire!" Lin Xian issued orders immediately.
"KIKI, Lu Xingchen—help me clear a path."
"If we don’t shut the gate, we’re doomed," Jiang Yun said grimly. "Lin Xian, I’ll clear a way for you."
Jiang Yun grabbed his walkie-talkie.
"Huiyan!"
"On it."
Vroom!
The roar of a motorcycle engine grew closer.
From behind, a woman in a black leather jacket raced forward on a modified bike, dodging debris as she launched multiple guided micro-missiles at the gap in the gate.
BOOM! BOOM!
The explosions ripped through the zombie horde, briefly clearing the entrance.
Ren Huiyan reached out and grabbed at thin air—but something invisible formed in her grasp.
With a sharp flick of her wrist, she hurled it toward the gate.
WHOOM!
A shockwave of air pressure erupted, sending chunks of flesh and bone flying.
"We’ve got the outside—go!" Jiang Yun adjusted his sunglasses and leaped off the shuttle. A gust of wind surged around him, lifting him into the air.
"Wind ability!" Lu Xingchen’s eyes lit up.
"Nice, nice! Wind can boost my firepower—we make a perfect team!"
"Are you in love with him?" KIKI rolled her eyes.
"You misunderstand! A true warrior seeks kindred spirits—"
"Lu Xingchen!" Lin Xian cut him off and pointed at the high wall.
"Get up there and burn everything you can."
"As you wish!"
Right now, pressure relief was the top priority. If the zombie horde kept growing, the gate wouldn’t just stay open—it would be ripped apart completely.
Wei Kexue checked his laptop.
"Two of the gate’s power units are down. One of the steel cables is jammed!"
"Got it. Shut down the entire power system and reboot it."
"What?! If we do that, the zombies will break through instantly!"
"They won’t."
The shuttle stopped, and the team rushed out.
Lin Xian turned to KIKI and Lu Xingchen.
"Time it perfectly. Buy us a few seconds."
Wei Kexue swallowed hard and nodded quickly.
KIKI clapped her hands, her eyes glowing faintly as she lifted off the ground.
More survivors and Iron Guard soldiers stared in shock.
"What the hell is going on today? Why are so many people flying?!"
"AAAAHHHHH!!!"
A red centipede-like creature suddenly burst through the gate, its hundreds of wriggling legs spilling out like a nightmare.
KIKI and Lin Xian locked eyes—they recognized it instantly.
The same monster from before.
"Again with this damn thing!"
KIKI gritted her teeth and activated her ability.
She grabbed the red centipede mid-air—then twisted her wrist.
SNAP!
The monster’s body contorted like a pretzel, its internal structure crushing under her grip.
"SKREEEEEEEE!"
Its horrific screech pierced the air—right as Lu Xingchen unleashed a beam of white-hot fire into its open mouth.
FWOOSH!
The centipede burst into flames, its chitin crackling under the heat.
Suddenly, a crimson humanoid figure leaped from the zombie horde—its mouth opening wide.

WHOOSH!
A blast of fire erupted toward the defending Iron Guard soldiers.
"It’s spraying flames—dodge!"
Survivors screamed as a wall of burning blood engulfed dozens.
Lu Xingchen’s eyes darkened.
"Oh, hell no. You think you can breathe fire in front of the Fire God?"
