Chapter 35: The Dawn of Chaos

Lucian stood atop the ruined skyscraper, his crimson eyes scanning the city engulfed in flames. The apocalypse had reached a new level of devastation. Gunfire echoed in the distance, punctuated by the occasional explosion. The streets below were littered with the corpses of both the dead and the living—survivors who had gambled and lost in this ruthless world.

"System," Lucian said in his mind. "Give me an update on the new awakenings."

A smooth, artificial voice echoed within his thoughts. "Confirmed. Mass awakening of abilities among survivors detected. Evolutionary strains of power emerging. Threat levels increasing."

Lucian smirked. "Good. It's about time things got interesting."

The system had undergone a massive upgrade, giving him new abilities and an even deeper connection to its functions. Now, it acted as a sentient AI within his mind, capable of responding to his commands with precision. And with the Apocalypse Fighting Style and Master of All Weapons techniques at his disposal, he was more dangerous than ever.

A sudden movement below caught his attention. A group of survivors—five men armed with makeshift weapons—were trying to break into a convenience store. But something was off. Lucian narrowed his eyes and activated his enhanced vision. The air shimmered around them.

"System, analyze."

"Hostile lifeforms detected. Illusion ability in use. Recommended action: Eliminate immediately."

Lucian sighed. "So some of them are already using their powers for ambushes. Typical."

With a flick of his wrist, he summoned a silenced sniper rifle from his Infinite Space. Through the scope, he lined up his shot. The lead figure, a man with a sinister grin, was seconds away from stabbing one of his own teammates in the back.

BANG!

The bullet pierced his skull before he could make a move. Chaos erupted as the remaining survivors scrambled, but Lucian was faster. Three more shots. Three more bodies collapsed. The last man standing screamed in terror and ran into the darkness.

Lucian chuckled. "Run, little rat. See how long you last."

Before he could leave, a message from the system flashed before his eyes.

New Ability Unlocked: Absolute Dominance.

Lucian raised an eyebrow. "System, explain."

"Absolute Dominance: A passive ability that ensures host's victory in any one-on-one battle by manipulating probability and enemy errors. Cannot be resisted."

Lucian's grin widened. "Now, this... this is power."

The sound of approaching vehicles snapped him out of his thoughts. A convoy of black-armored trucks sped through the streets, their mounted turrets firing at unseen enemies. The logo on the side sent a wave of amusement through Lucian.

"So, the military is still trying to act like they're in control?" he muttered.

One of the trucks suddenly flipped into the air, torn apart by an unseen force. A monstrous growl followed, and Lucian turned his gaze towards the source—a hulking beast, its mutated body covered in thick, pulsing veins. A Tier-3 evolved zombie.

Lucian cracked his knuckles. "Looks like I'll get to test my new powers after all."

Without hesitation, he leaped from the skyscraper, landing gracefully on the ground. As the soldiers tried to regroup, the beast charged at them, claws tearing through armor like paper.

Lucian raised his hand. "Apocalypse Fighting Style: Phantom Execution."

His figure blurred, vanishing from sight.

A split second later, he reappeared behind the creature, his blade sinking deep into its skull.

SCHLICK!

The zombie let out a choked roar before collapsing. The soldiers stood frozen, staring at Lucian in shock. One of them, a woman with a tattered uniform and weary eyes, stepped forward.

"Who... who are you?"

Lucian met her gaze, his smirk returning. "The one who rules this apocalypse."

The soldiers exchanged glances. They had heard the rumors—whispers of a man who moved like a ghost, who slaughtered zombies and humans alike without hesitation. Some feared him. Others wanted to join him.

Lucian turned away. "If you want to live, follow me. If not, die like the rest."

The woman hesitated before nodding. "We'll follow."

Lucian activated his system once more. "System, locate the nearest survivor base. It's time to expand my kingdom."

A map appeared before his eyes, marking a stronghold not far from here.

His conquest had only just begun.
