Apocalypse: Reborn with a Soul Sync Farming Space System-Chapter 65 Solution
A frown settled on Laurel’s face. However, she thought maybe it was just an animal that spooked them.
She returned her attention to the soil.
"Laurel, let’s head back to the tarp," Chris said beside her.
She nodded and followed him back to the tarp for cover. She must come up with a good idea, else the herbs’ roots would rot from too much water.
Water trickled down her hair, and her body was soaked.
"Are you okay?" Chris asked, removing his jacket, and with a flip, he wrapped it around Laurel’s head. "Don’t catch a cold."
"Chris you don’t have to... I..."
"Say no more, I’m perfectly fine." Chris remained with a faint smile.
Laurel nodded. She closed her eyes. "System, is there anything I can do to improve the herb’s quality before harvest?" She asked inwardly.
The system popped up in front of her. Laurel suddenly became alarmed, she turned to Chris who was staring in the far distance.
"What are you doing? He can see you!" Laurel said in a hushed voice.
[Only Hosts can see the system.]
Chris turned to her. "Did you say something?"
Laurel shook her head and pretended she was enjoying the chaotic view.
[Answering host’s earlier question. There is something that could help, but your current level is too low to access it.]
"Is there a way I can get it? I just need it for a few hours. The herbs are almost ready for harvest, I can’t waste my efforts and I definitely can’t afford to fail the mission." Laurel said inwardly.
[There is a way. Host may temporarily acquire the Hydro-Balance Field Module. However, it would cost you a lot of points.]
"How much?" Laurel asked, her heart racing because she knew how stingy and expensive the system demands were.
[2000 points.]
Laurel’s mouth opened wide in disbelief.
She pressed her lips into a thin line. She had tried everything she could, but none is working. And if she wants to protect it in a professional way, that would take too much time.
And she didn’t have time.
She glanced at the Crop status panel on her wrist.
[Dan Shen: Almost ready for harvest {97%}
Shi Hu: Almost ready for harvest {95%}]
Laurel closed her eyes in pain. Her plan of upgrading the space had to be put on hold.
"Buy it."
The blue screen flickered for a second before becoming clear.
[Purchase confirmed.]
[-2000 points deducted.]
[Hydro-Balance Field Module deploying...]
A soft vibration moved through the ground beneath Laurel’s feet. It was light, almost easy to miss, but she noticed it right away and her eyes opened slightly wider.
Couldn’t the system do it more discreetly?
"What is it?" Chris asked when he saw her expression change.
"...Nothing," Laurel said, though her attention was already fixed on the farmland.
For a moment, everything remained quiet except for the sound of the rain. Then a quiet cracking sound came from beneath the soil.
Chris frowned. "Did you hear that?" He stepped back, as his gaze became sharper, scanning the field.
Before Laurel could reply, thin metal blue rods slowly rose from the ground around the farmland. They were only about knee height, and they stopped once they were fully out.
Chris stared at them in confusion. "When did you set those up?"
Laurel didn’t even blink before lying through her teeth. "Emergency farm equipment."
It wasn’t a lie, as they were really emergency farm equipment.
A low humming sound followed. Faint blue lines connected above the rods, forming a wide grid that spread across the entire farmland.
A notification appeared in front of Laurel.
[Hydro-Balance Field activated.]
[Scanning soil condition...]
[Water saturation: {72%} Critical.]
[Initiating redistribution.]
The ground trembled slightly again, but this time Laurel knew the module had started working.
Slowly, the excess water began sinking deeper into the soil. The puddles between the herb rows started disappearing right in front of them.
Chris stepped closer, clearly shocked. "...That’s impossible." He muttered under his breath.
He glanced at Laurel, he had never heard of such advanced equipment that could easily solve waterlogging problems.
And he didn’t see Laurel pressing any button or any machine. So how did she get it to work?
The muddy ground gradually became firm. It was no longer overly wet, but it wasn’t dry either. Even the rainwater stopped collecting on the surface and instead drained downward.
Laurel quietly let out a breath she hadn’t realized she was holding.
She glanced at Chris, and she could already read the suspicion in his eyes, even though his face remained stoic and expressionless.
She bit her inner cheek. He wasn’t stupid, of course he would question it, before she could ponder more on the thought another notification appeared.
[Drainage channels established.]
[Root protection active.]
[Estimated crop survival rate increased to 96%.]
Her shoulders relaxed, at last it was saved.
But the system wasn’t done yet.
[Warning: Module durability limited.]
[Temporary structure will degrade after 24 hours.]
[Host is advised to harvest before shutdown.]
Laurel wasn’t surprised, because the system was stingy and always had limits to everything.
Still, twenty-four hours was more than enough time for her to harvest the herbs.
Chris crouched and grabbed a handful of soil, rubbing it between his fingers.
"It’s moderately moist, but not overly dry," he said slowly. "How did you even manage this? And could it work this fast and efficiently in minutes?"
Laurel folded her arms, briefly avoiding his gaze. "Money."
Chris’s brows furrowed deeper. "I really shouldn’t underestimate how rich you are."
Laurel said nothing, if only he knew.
She looked over the farmland again. The herbs were no longer bending from too much water, and their leaves looked healthy despite the rain.
Chris didn’t prob further. He let out a sigh.
"Though there are no cars around here, I have a tractor. We can use it to head back to the inner wall." Laurel offered with a polite smile.
Chris nodded. "Okay."
Laurel ran out of the tarp with his jacket covering her head. She rushed towards the area where she had parked the tilling tractor.
Not long after, the tractor rumbled to life. Laurel drove along the path close to the tarp. She stopped a few meters away from the farmland.
She waved at Chris to come.
After Chris had entered the tractor, they drove back to the heart of the valley.
