Apocalypse: Reborn with a Soul Sync Farming Space System-Chapter 95 Crooked Nose
It was already noon when they finished planting half the field. They had planted different crops: maize, peas, potatoes, rice, lettuce, beans, watermelons, tomatoes, onions, carrots, cabbage, and wheat.
Laurel helped with distributing water to the farmers. "Thank you very much for your hard work. You all can rest now." She said with a polite smile.
"Yes, Commander."
"Finally, we get to rest."
"Mrs. Wayne is very nice."
"And she doesn’t throw orders around, she helps with the planting too."
"It is our fortune to have her lead us."
The farmers chatted amongst themselves.
Laurel smiled at their words before slipping away from them. But she didn’t go far and a voice rang behind her.
"Commander," Izzy called out, before running towards her.
Laurel stopped midway, turning to face her. "Yes."
"I just wanted to thank you for allowing me to join the farming sector and of course for personally taking the time to teach me how to plant," Izzy said, panting.
"It was nothing," Laurel replied.
"Where are you going?" She asked, glancing in the direction Laurel was heading.
"To have some rest," Laurel said, a faint crease forming between her brows.
"Okay, have a good rest. I’ll see you later." Izzy smiled brightly at her before turning around to head back to the others.
Laurel sighed before continuing walking.
The farming sector was also located outside the inner wall.
...
The door clicked behind her, as Laurel entered her room. She made sure it was locked before entering her space.
The moment she entered her space house, the sound of chiseled hammering a large piece of rock echoed through the air.
A frown quickly settled on her face as she walked in the direction the sound was coming from.
Her gaze fell on the culprit, and it was none other than Luo. Luo was busy carving the statue of Laurel and Ling Xuan in the hall.
An impressed look flickered through Laurel’s face. "What are you doing Luo?" She asked, folding her arms across her chest.
Luo paused, its hands holding the hammer and the chisel, hovering in the air. Luo turned towards Laurel, "Master Laurel, do you like the statue?" It asked with dreamy eyes.
Laurel took another look at the statue, only the facial features were carved, the body was not yet done.
"Good... but why is my nose a little crooked?" Laurel asked, touching her own nose. Her gaze narrowed as if she was greatly betrayed by Luo.
"Master, don’t be sad, I’m done yet... and it was not my fault it was crooked, it was Master Ling Xuan who suddenly spooked me and my hands slipped," Luo said with a guilt written all over its face. It hid the hammer and the chisel behind its back.
Seeing Luo’s expression, Laurel let out a sigh. "I think you did a great job Luo." She said walking closer to the statue, she lowered her head just so she could whisper in Luo’s ear. "You are astonishing, but Sister Ling Xuan made you ruin my nose, thus ruining your work.
You should definitely give her a crooked nose too... remember all the torments you have gone through in her hands, even add a crooked lip and missing teeth." Laurel said with a mischievous glint flashing through her eyes.
"Ohhh, I understand now... this will be my revenge... hehehe." Luo laughed at the mere thought.
A smile flickered through Laurel’s face. She stepped back, but her eyes were still fixated on Luo. "By the way, why are you making a statue of us?"
"As the newest masters of the soul sync system, of course, I have to commemorate it." It said with a smile. "If you don’t mind Master Laurel, I have to continue with the statue," Luo added.
Laurel nodded. "Sure, don’t forget what I told you earlier." She said backing away.
"Yes, Master Laurel," Luo replied, then the hammering sound resumed again.
A satisfied smile graced Laurel’s face as she saw Luo already working diligently on Ling Xuan’s face. She turned around, and a scream tore from her lips.
"Ling Xuan, can’t you make your presence known? You scared the hell out of me." Laurel said as she placed her hand on her chest.
Ling Xuan’s expression remained expressionless, she remained in her spot with her hands clasped behind her back.
Laurel bit her inner cheek. ’There is no way she heard what I said to Luo, right? But why is she looking at me like that? Is she planning to bore a hole through me or what?’
Laurel felt shivers run through her body. ’No way, that is her signature look. It’s not like she had grown extra ears to hear what I said... Ah, what a domineering woman...’
"Sister Ling Xuan," Laurel said approaching her.
"Why do you always call me Sister?" Ling Xuan finally spoke, though her tone remained bored and nonchalant.
"Because I think of you as my big sister and out of respect," Laurel said. "And you do look older than me by the way, so... how old were you when you died..."
Ling Xuan’s gaze darkened the moment those words left Laurel’s mouth.
"I mean when you died honourably in the battle?" She quickly corrected herself.
Laurel and Ling Xuan had been co-existing for almost three months now, yet Laurel knew nothing of her past except her general title.
Ling Xuan’s brooding gaze almost pierced through Laurel’s skull. And when she finally opened her lips, "What are you doing here, shouldn’t you go back and finish the mission?"
The little hope blooming in Laurel’s chest shattered like glass. How was she supposed to get close to her if she didn’t open up to her?
"I wanted to plant some Grade B plants in the purple door room. I think we don’t have to wait for the system to give missions before planting. Those plants might help in times of urgent need."
"How are you going to do it? You need to head back to the farm." Ling Xuan said curtly.
A small smile formed on Laurel’s face. "You can take over the body while I farm behind the purple door..."
"No." Ling Xuan cut in, her tone leaving no room for argument.
