Apocalypse: Transmigrated General's Daughter Uses Space to Survive-Chapter 516: Ambush
"Alright, how do we get to the base?" Grandpa Li saw that everyone was focused on discussing how the city had changed after the apocalypse and interrupted them.
They needed to head back soon.
"The houses there are limited, so I thought you guys could stay in the RVs. We have several, so I think three should be enough." Apart from the ones they had commissioned, Chu Miao and her family had collected more vehicles when the apocalypse started.
Now they had more RVs.
"Okay, bring them out and let’s settle with who will share with whom then we can go." Grandpa Chu agreed with his friend.
So, Chu Miao brought out three Recreation Vehicles and the people who just came out of the Soul Ring quickly divided themselves and soon, living arrangements were made.
"Let’s go back now." Ye Xuan said while getting back into the truck and taking the wheel again.
Chu Miao sat in the passenger seat just like before and the two led the way.
The three RVs followed behind, attracting a lot of attention from survivors who were out scavenging for supplies.
Many were tempted to surround them and Rob them, especially when they saw how healthy those peeking out the windows looked.
However, most of them held themselves back because if there was anything that the apocalypse had taught people, it was to be smart and think about consequences before acting.
They understood that those people hadn’t remained that healthy by accident. They must have the strength to get enough food and also the ability to protect what was theirs.
Unfortunately, not everyone had become smart. Some had become conceited.
While driving and having a light conversation with Chu Miao, Ye Xuan suddenly stepped on the emergency brake and the car came to an abrupt stop.
The RVs following behind also followed suit and stopped.
In front of the military truck, several people stood with guns pointing at Ye Xuan and Chu Miao inside the vehicle.
Other people soon walked out of the bushes beside the road.
Some had guns, others had baseball bats, but most of them held swords.
This was a group of almost thirty people, both men and women.
There were even children about the age of twelve or thirteen.
The few vehicles were surrounded by the survivors who had been hiding in the bushes.
The atmosphere instantly turned tense. Although only those outside holding weapons were experiencing the tension.
Those in the vehicles didn’t even bother seeing them as a threat.
Ye Xuan didn’t even frown when the guns were raised at him. His hands remained loosely on the steering wheel, posture relaxed, as though the people blocking the road were nothing more than fallen branches.
Chu Miao calmly unfastened her seatbelt and glanced outside the windshield.
On one side there were at least ten people and about ten on the other.
Seven blocked the way in front of their truck and the others stood behind the last RVs, apparently blocking their retreat.
The people were poorly coordinated, their breathing uneven, and even those holding guns, some had trembling fingers.
It was obvious that most of them weren’t fighters. They were desperate survivors playing at being bandits.
Her gaze swept past the adults and briefly paused on the children holding kitchen knives far too tightly. Her expression cooled by several degrees.
She hated seeing this. Children being forced to grow up so fast that they skip everything that has to do with childhood.
Even if they survived the apocalypse, they can never be normal human beings.
"Get out of the car," a man in front shouted, his gun shaking slightly. "Leave the vehicles and supplies behind. We won’t make things hard for you."
Even his voice had some tremor to it. He didn’t have that nauseating smell of blood, which indicated that he had never killed anyone.
His hands were still clean.
Ye Xuan finally sighed.
"You already made it hard," he replied flatly, pushing the door open and stepping out.
The moment his boots touched the ground, several guns jerked higher, aimed at his head and someone shouted, "Don’t move!"
Ye Xuan stopped moving. Not because he was afraid of the guns pointed at him, but because he wanted to see how far these people would go.
He wanted to know if they were worth saving.
The RV doors behind them opened one by one.
Old man Chu stepped down first, hands clasped behind his back, eyes sharp despite his age.
Grandpa Li followed, then several other elders and middle-aged men, all radiating a pressure that made the surrounding air subtly heavier.
They were cultivators and it was not easy to suppress the pressure emanating from their bodies naturally so easily.
As more people came down, the survivors’ confidence wavered.
"So many people!" One survivor whispered.
Chu Miao waited for the others to leave the vehicles before she stepped out last.
The instant she appeared, the spiritual pressure she unconsciously leaked made several of the children stumble backward. One of the women gasped, clutching her chest.
This was not pressure released deliberately. It leaked unconsciously from her body.
Chu Miao looked at the leader holding the gun and spoke calmly.
"Move aside. This is your only warning." One could tell from her calm voice that she didn’t fear the guns pointed at them.
The man laughed nervously. "You think we’re scared of you? We have guns!"
He fired a warning shot in the air.
The echo of the gunshot hadn’t even faded when Ye Xuan raised his hand.
The bullet froze in the air for a moment before falling straight to the ground.
He had wanted to test the group but seeing how reckless they were, he lost interest.
Firing guns would attract zombies and there were children there.
The leader’s face drained of color as he watched the bullet he had just fired fall to the ground like a pebble.
The others also froze with some dropping their weapons.
One of the men panicked and pulled the trigger.
His gun had been trained at Ye Xuan.
Before the sound of the shot could fully form, the gun shattered into fragments, exploding backward.
