Apocalypse: Transmigrated General's Daughter Uses Space to Survive-Chapter 526: A Mother’s Devotion
They were grateful that it wasn’t too late for Mother Chu, otherwise they wouldn’t be able to live with the guilt for forcing her to keep treating patients when her own life was in danger. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"It’s okay. I will save as many as I can. It’s the only way I can help with your mission." Mother Chu smiled as she lightly rubbed her daughter’s cheek.
Chu Miao felt her eyes sting from emotions at the realization that her mother was working so hard just to help her accomplish her mission.
"My mission isn’t as important as your well-being. Don’t take such risks in the future." Chu Miao didn’t care what her mission was, she wasn’t going to risk her mother for it.
"Alright, alright. I will listen to you. You can stop transferring energy to me now. I feel much better, I can go and cultivate to recover." Mother Chu said as she shifted to shake off Chu Miao’s hand that was still on her back.
She didn’t want her daughter to waste her spiritual power on her.
Chu Miao knew she couldn’t argue with her mother, so she stopped trying.
"Go back to the tent. I will take care of things here." She said to her mother.
"But they could awaken..." Mother Chu said softly.
Chu Miao knew that her mother wouldn’t give up on anyone who could awaken a superpower, so she turned around and scanned the injured and found five people with a mutation that was starting to awaken superpowers.
She pointed them out and asked her mother to inject a small amount of wood essence in them to boost their vitality, then she would take over the rest later.
Mother Chu did as she was told then left. The others didn’t understand what was going on and just watched quietly.
The woman who had been aggressive had kept quiet after Chu Miao threatened her.
She had also noticed how the people in the tent behaved towards Chu Miao and asked someone to find out what was happening.
Once she found out the truth, she couldn’t wait to find a hole to hide in and never show her face again.
As Mother Chu left, the woman who had been arguing with the aggressive woman about treating her son first walked over to thank her.
Her son was one of the five people Chu Miao had pointed out and even though only a little life force was injected into his body, it had literally revived him enough to wait for treatment.
So, she was grateful.
"No need to thank me. If my daughter hadn’t transferred some strength into me, I wouldn’t have been able to do anything even if he died under my watch." Mother Chu said honestly.
"I still have to thank you. You didn’t hold it against me that I almost caused you trouble and still treated my son. Thank you." The woman gave a ninety degree bow to Mother Chu before walking back to sit beside her son whose pulse was more prominent.
Mother Chu didn’t take it to heart and left.
Chu Miao looked around the tent and realized that without strong wood superpower or spiritual energy, it was nearly impossible to save these people.
No wonder her mother had been so drained. It was because the people here were too injured to survive any other way.
"Why are there so many severely injured people here?" Chu Miao had been observing the battlefield earlier.
She saved those she could and those she couldn’t, she left to fate. But the severely injured people carried from the battlefield weren’t this many.
There should have been at most a thousand people, but the ten held more than five thousand patients.
"Most of them were brought in from other areas in the battlefield. Your grandfather gave the order. Those severely injured and had little chance of survival should be brought here.
He said there was someone who could save them if they arrived with one breath left.
So, all the other battlefields brought the severely injured here for your mother to treat." A doctor standing next to Chu Miao explained.
Of course, they hadn’t realized that General Chu was sending the patients to his daughter-in-law, otherwise no one would have dared to show her attitude or mistreat her by overworking her.
Nevertheless, everything turned out okay.
"Alright, the people my mother just healed a bit before leaving should be separated from the rest and constantly observed. I will point out more to you to separate later." Chu Miao instructed the doctor.
The doctor and the others didn’t understand why she would say that.
Others started having wild thoughts.
"Are they mutating into zombies?" Then they should be killed to prevent infecting others. How can you just let them be kept aside? If they go crazy and attack people, will you be responsible?" The woman in a designer dress still couldn’t keep her mouth shut and started spreading panic.
With her statement, people started distancing themselves from the people Chu Miao had just mentioned.
Chu Miao looked at everyone there but still noticed some people who didn’t move. They had no intention of distancing themselves from the patients.
One soldier guarding the patients couldn’t take it and snapped.
"Aren’t you ashamed of saying something so disheartening? These are soldiers and survivors who risked their lives to protect yours without a regard for their safety.
Yet now you want to abandon them for a possibility that might not even happen?
How cold-blooded can you be?"
Upon hearing this, those who distanced themselves looked embarrassed.
"It’s the duty of the soldiers to protect us. Do you expect us to put ourselves in danger just because they were doing their job?" A man who had moved further than a patient pointed out said shamelessly.
"Their job? What job? It’s the apocalypse, there are no longer formal jobs. These soldiers are still rendering their services from humanity’s point of view, not because it’s their responsibility.
They are not getting paid for risking their lives for ingrates like you.
Those without any duties in here, please leave." Chu Miao ordered coldly.
