Apocalypse: Zombie King is the Female Lead's Younger Sister-Chapter 252: A Bad Intention
This time, she was truly alone, without someone to accompany her. She needed to find a way home all by herself.
She was perfectly healthy now, all the backlash and injury magically disappeared after she entered Cassias’ sea of consciousness. Her survival was definitely a little bit higher.
They all exchanged glances discreetly, but she noticed.
Whatever their intention was, she could use them to find out where she was currently.
"You get swept up by the waves? How are you still alive now?" A woman among them inquired. She eyed her from head to toe, examining for any valuables.
Oh, Zerra have found out their purpose now. She mustn’t have been the only person who was stranded here. Besides her, there were many people. The difference was: they were dead.
Because they didn’t have the whale to protect them.
If anyone was found alive, they must have been a water ability user. But... she guessed they must have preferred them dead. These people were scavengers.
With her ability, she quickly discerned their emotions and made deductions in a few seconds. They didn’t have a good intention toward her.
"I-I don’t know." Zerra bit her lip. "A hole suddenly appeared and I was dragged inside."
It wasn’t entirely incorrect. She secretly analyzed each of their expressions. Among the three, one woman and two men, two of them instantly wore a look of fleeting distrust. Only one of them who didn’t instantly she was making things up. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
"A hole?" The man frowned. He quickly adjusted his expression. "Where are you from?"
She had a look of hesitation on her face before she mentioned a city that was neither far nor close to the capital.
"Oh?" The man raised his eyebrows. "That’s quite far away. How about you join us? It’s safer than spending the night here on the beach."
She hurriedly nodded, thanking him profusely, acting like she was completely unaware of their intention.
The man had a look of approval on his face. They immediately told her to follow. Along the way, she somehow sensed Cassias’ restlessness.
The dragon cub was inside her inner space, within her territory. She hadn’t tried whether communication was possible... so, she tried.
Fortunately, he seemed to understand what she was trying to say. Now, it all depended whether this little troublemaker was willing to listen to her or not.
If he came out, she would undoubtedly become a target.
"Stay inside the space, alright?" She coaxed.
She didn’t know what he said to her, but she could sense his concern. Although she currently couldn’t understand what he was talking about, she could feel their communication had gotten better.
She believed that they would soon be able to communicate more effectively with Cassias’ increasing recovery.
After coaxing him for a while, he begrudgingly agreed not to come out. At the same time, for other people, she appeared to be in a daze the whole time.
"Hey, girl, are you alright?" Someone waved their hands in front of her.
"Has she gone silly because she spent too much time in the water? The hole is similar to some kind of space hole, right? Her brain must have turned into a mush because of this." The woman let out a few sarcastic and mocking words.
The two men didn’t refute the woman’s words.
"Sorry, I dozed off." Zerra suddenly muttered. "Don’t worry. I am only a little dizzy. My brain hasn’t turned into a mush yet."
The woman clicked her tongue, a little embarrassed but she didn’t apologize.
Zerra had unknowingly fallen behind a bit far away. They had no choice but to walk back. A man jogged faster, reaching her first while the woman thought she was still quite a distance away when she said these words. She probably didn’t expect Zerra could hear them.
"Then, let’s go." The man also looked displeased. "We should return before it gets dark."
Zerra nodded and followed them. Half an hour later, they arrived at a settlement. There were some tents around the small fishing village.
Actually, she had noticed some houses near the beach earlier, but some of them had broken down. Most likely because of the strong waves. So, the people who had lived there must have evacuated here.
"You can sleep with Jasmine." The man revealed the woman’s name. "We men will sleep together."
They shared some biscuits with each other before they entered their assigned tents. The few little biscuits were their night ration. Everyone there looked somewhat malnourished.
Zerra was thin, but her shape was just right. It fit her. Still, her fresh look didn’t seem to conform to the normal appearance of people from the apocalypse, who carried gloomy and despondent air around them.
They must have targeted her because of this.
Inside the tent, Zerra took the initiative to ask Jasmine a lot of things. Although she looked impatient and mean, she still answered some of her questions.
It turned out that they were tourists from another city. Before the apocalypse, they didn’t even know each other’s existence, each belonging to their own picnic group.
When the apocalypse struck, they lost their family and friends who had come with them to relax on the beach. Instead, the place became their burial ground.
A high wave killed most people who were playing nearest to the water. The rest of the people who were at the scene fled for their lives. Some turned into zombies and bit people around them.
It was incredibly chaotic.
"We already killed most of the zombies." Jasmine muttered. "We have a few ability users here. All the zombies who stumbled into this place are all dead."
The place was a small safe haven, at least temporarily. Well, until all the food ran out. The settlement was not far from the nearest city.
As soon as the survivors gathered, a few smart ones quickly devised a plan for survival, gathering necessities like food from the city.
It had been so long, so most food must have dwindled down by now. The supermarkets and other stores in the city had been emptied by them. They must have taken great risk coming to the beach in the hope of finding something edible.
Like the presence of the coconut trees.
"Why do you ask so many questions?" Jasmine rolled her eyes. "If you harbor a hope of getting out of this place, I suggest you quickly discard that ridiculous idea."
"Why?" Zerra was genuinely concerned.
"Some people have attempted to return to their homes. But the number of dangers are too overwhelming. We thought some people had made it out safely after they crossed the nearest city, but..." she paused. "We always found their torn clothes or corpses not long after."
"You know, some human bases are also very ruthless. They would force weak people out just to save expenses on food and water. Some of the people here come from such bases nearby." Jasmine continued to ramble.
Zerra listened to her words. Until she heard her say, "It’s better to stay here, don’t you think? If you have edible food, you can share it with the chief and they won’t treat you badly."
So, it was her goal all along, right?
She didn’t know how Jasmine and her two companions found out Zerra had a space ability. Were they just testing her or were they already so sure about it? She couldn’t determine it.
"Nevermind." Jasmine took a deep breath. "About my words earlier... I shouldn’t have spoken about you like that, so I apologize."
Zerra just smiled and generously accepted her apology.
"Let’s just sleep, shall we? It has been a tiring day." Jasmine finally muttered. Zerra agreed.
As her breathing gradually became steady, she felt a slight movement. Jasmine had gotten out of the tent.
Zerra, of course, wasn’t actually sleeping. She was just pretending. If she wanted to catch a fish, she had to prepare the bait.
After what seemed like an eternity, a small noise entered her ears again. Someone touched her hand, but...
"You..." a surprised cry broke the silent night.
"What happened–" The people outside immediately entered the tent, but words got stuck in their throats. Soon, they found themselves couldn’t move.
Zerra examined the three bound people with satisfaction. "As expected, you all harbor evil intentions toward me."
"You weren’t sleeping?" Jasmine had an incredulous look on her face.
Zerra raised her eyebrows. She pulled a portable lamp from her inner space under their widened eyes. "Sleeping in an unfamiliar place filled with humans?"
Their change of attitude was too abrupt after all. They disliked her. She had seen the killing intent in their eyes. But their attitude changed after Jasmine said something to her companions.
They wanted her to stay and voluntarily hand over the supplies in her inner space. If they kill her, the supplies in her space would be gone with her.
"I was correct. You have a space filled with supplies." Jasmine had a greedy look on her face, so were the two men.
"How about we make a deal?" Zerra suddenly offered. She approached them, pried open their mouths, and let them eat something.
"What did you just give me? They were horrified, trying to spit out the things they just swallowed to no avail.
"Poison." She suddenly answered.
