Chapter 16: Chapter 16: Relapse

Xie Ziyuan stood there, unmoving.

Some people stole glances at him, huddled together with other beastmen. This man’s expression had become more distorted and sinister after Lin Yuyao approached him.

From the siblings’ words, they found out that it was him who had dealt with all the traffickers and intended to help them escape from this place.

Such a powerful beastman who had single-handedly wiped out the traffickers... they couldn’t help from shivering when they witnessed the increasingly worse mood on Xie Ziyuan’s face.

Lin Yuyao was also alarmed, but she didn’t back down. Her heart was enveloped in fear and her instinct told her to run away, but she forced herself to stay.

She didn’t understand why Xie Ziyuan had such a huge change when he saw the item on her palm.

"Where did you get it?" Xie Ziyuan opened his mouth, suppressing something within him.

A deep searing pain emerged from his chest, slowly spreading to his blood vessel. His face darkened. Such pain would have been enough to pull the soul from one’s body, yet he merely frowned in discomfort.

Although she was utterly confused, Lin Yuyao still answered cautiously, "I-I... it just suddenly... appear."

Afraid that he wouldn’t believe her, she stammered an explanation. "I was tired from searching for the keys... so, I took a seat on the chair that the traffickers often use. Then, I accidentally fell asleep. When I woke up... this talisman was already in my palm."

Her voice was soft. Since they were on the other side of the dimly-lit cave, others couldn’t hear what she was saying.

"I-I think... I got it from the traffickers’ pile of items," she made the most reasonable assumption. But, she was also unsure.

Maybe she was so tired that she didn’t realize she was holding that thing. After all, she hadn’t slept all night and had undergone a few tough battles in less than a day.

Xie Ziyuan fell silent.

The turmoil in his heart hadn’t calmed down. If anything, his heart felt like something wanted to burst out of it. His entire blood vessels boiled, painful enough which almost drove him crazy.

"We will stay here... another day." He forced out the words with his hoarse voice and staggered away, heading to another cave room free from others’ prying eyes.

Lin Yuyao faced the questioning looks from other beastmen and explained. "Master Xie will need a while to recover from his injuries."

Inside the room, Xie Ziyuan knew he had a relapse. He clutched his chest painfully. His thought wandered to the item on Lin Yuyao’s hand—a piece of paper filled with intricate drawing.

A teleportation talisman.

A high level one at that.

For little beastmen like the traffickers, such items shouldn’t be affordable. Even if one had the money, it wasn’t so easy to get such items if one didn’t have the connections.

Few people could create such talismans. Each one of them were incredibly hard to meet.

So, there was only one answer: the teleportation talisman was from that ghostly woman!

Only an old monster who had lived for a long time would have gathered some wealth and rare items. If she could get her hands on such a high-level castle, a mere teleportation talisman should be a piece of cake for her.

Xie Ziyuan entered his inner space and knocked himself out. He heaved a sigh of relief and everything went dark.

One last thought occupied his mind: why did the ghostly woman approach another person instead of him this time? Had she gotten sick of him?

On the other side of the cave, Lin Yuyao took over because Xie Ziyuan wasn’t there. She had never handled so many people before; she mostly only took care of her brother. So, she was slightly nervous facing over twenty people at once.

"Master Xie gave fierce beast meat for us to share with each other." She held up the huge piece of fierce beast meat wrapped in a few layers of leaves.

Xie Ziyuan saved the farm harvest and only took them if he was desperate for food. He would just leave it for the ghostly woman to do as she wanted.

When he entered the inner space, the paddy rice was already plump and golden, but he had no time and energy to harvest them. After all, his old affliction was tearing at his soul.

In total, there should be 27 portions of white rice and 12 of golden paddy rice.

’We will divide it evenly among us. It should help to restore some spiritual energy in your body," Lin Yuyao continued. "We can help each other once some of you recover. The keys for the cages are still missing."

"Any objection?" She asked.

No one voiced any objection. The palm of Lin Yuyao’s hand was already wet with sweat. Even though she was filled with anxiety, she put on a confident look.

Her younger brother was naturally timid and couldn’t handle dealing with so many people. As such, the job fell on her shoulders.

She needed to prove to Master Xie that they were useful! They had committed a mistake of offending him once, and the trust between them became weakened. Even if he didn’t speak about it, she could sense he was more restrained when facing them.

He never treated them badly and even gave them a place to stay!

The weakening drug might affect the beastmen for a day. If there was nutritious food and rich in spiritual energy like fierce beast meat, it would dissolve the drug’s effect faster.

Lin Yu’an helped his sister to roast the meat. There was no seasoning available, but it would make do for now.

Soon, it was already afternoon. There was no sign of Xie Ziyuan coming out of his cave room.

The Lin siblings exchanged worried gaze as they stared at the simple door. The traffickers merely covered it with a square wooden plank.

They had distributed the roasted bear to everyone fairly. A total of twenty five portions in addition to theirs. It was just that they were still a little biased for Xie Ziyuan’s portion. Even if they ate similar portions just like others, they had specifically put away a bigger portion for Xie Ziyuan.

Some beastmen who were grateful for the meal began to help the siblings to find the keys.

"The skunk and raccoon always brought the keys with them, we don’t know if the keys are also lost outside." A timid rabbit female beastman approached them and spoke up.

At this time, others were still busy turning the rooms upside down for the keys.

There were a total of three beastmen who were placed inside a cage. They didn’t seem to be ordinary beastmen, obviously from carnivore beasts.

Lin Yuyao was also at a loss. If the keys were with the traffickers, they might have ended up in some fierce beasts’ stomachs. Even if they didn’t, they wouldn’t have the means to retrieve keys.

Fierce beasts must have gathered around the traffickers’ corpses now.

Suddenly, a beastman came to them. He had a light brown tail, fur that almost covered almost half his face, and round, wide ears.

"I have mostly recovered now," he said as he greedily stared at the meat on the table. "Why don’t you give the rest of the fierce beast meat to me? I will go get the keys from outside once I fully recover."
