Hearing his words, the bald man’s grin broadened instantly.

The burly bald man laughed and then pointed to a man behind him. “Cao Li, who used to roll with me, can go with you if you don’t mind. He could be of some help.”
“If Brother Zhuang has given his word, then there’s surely no problem. Let’s do this. I’ll get ten more people tomorrow. That would also help in reducing the pressure at our gathering place.”
Li Ming replied with a carefree laugh, his eyes silently scrutinizing the bald man’s strength.
“Then my waiting here specifically for you today has paid off.”
Chen Zhuang’s face broke into a broad grin, his gaze shifting to the woman beside Li Ming. He complimented, “Brother Ming’s woman is truly beautiful! I didn’t realize we had such beauty in our gathering place. Brother Ming, you’re quite the lucky man!”
“Indeed, I am a lucky man. But who am I to compare with Brother Zhuang? I bet Brother Zhuang’s women are too numerous to handle.”
Li Ming held Xu Xiu closer in his arms and laughed lightly. He then continued, “It’s getting dark. I have to head back. I’ll visit Brother Zhuang here some other day.”
“No way, Brother Ming. One from you is worth several from me. Brother Ming, take care and let’s meet up another day.”
Brother Zhuang returned with a laugh, ushering his crew to clear the way. He watched as Li Ming, armed and ready, left the gathering place through the main gate, his gaze fixed on Li Ming until he vanished from sight. Only then did he raise his left hand and frown, his thoughts lingering on Li Ming’s right hand which was perpetually resting on the hilt of his sword at his waist.
“Did he shake hands with his left hand?”
Chen Zhuang pondered with a frown, gave an offhand wave of his hand and murmured to his followers, “Tell the guys to keep busy. I’m going to be in my room until all the tasks assigned by Brother Ming are done.”
“Don’t hold up the guys’ work.”
“Yes, Brother Zhuang!”
“Sure, Brother Zhuang!”
His crew went about their business in twos and threes. Chen Zhuang stood by the window, watching as the man who had suddenly stormed into his gathering place got into his car with his woman and drove away. Not until the car had completely disappeared from his field of vision did he slowly retreat.

On their way back, Li Ming drove back to the gathering place whilst addressing Xu Xiu with a smile. They were heading west, towards the setting sun. His left hand was leisurely steering the wheel while his right hand was playfully massaging Xu Xiu’s hand. Quite a sight, it was.
“It’s a bit sudden and surprising, and somewhat scary…”
Xu Xiu saw Li Ming teasing her left hand and instinctively answered. After a pause, she added, “Usually, if someone from outside comes in, it’s always Chen Zhuang’s or Midget’s subordinates who interact with them. We would never have direct contact. But when you suddenly showed up, bypassing them, everyone feared that Chen Zhuang and Midget might get scared and therefore, we wouldn’t interact with you.”
“But then you brought so much food, and your words were so honest. We couldn’t resist. I spoke to Liu Li and others while we were working. They also shared the same thoughts.”
Having said that, Xu Xiu turned to look at Li Ming, her pretty face bearing a trace of confusion about living with this man.
She didn’t know what awaited her.

Li Ming chuckled and nodded before gently rubbing her cheek, “Don’t worry. You surely won’t starve with me.”
“Okay!”
Xu Xiu pursed her lips and contemplated the meal she had earlier that day. Indeed, she was sure that she wouldn’t go hungry.
