Bai Meiyue arched a brow. She was waiting for Lu Yin to jab at her but it seemed like the lesson from yesterday was enough. Even though Lu Yin was glaring at Bai Meiyue as if the woman had offended her ancestors, Lu Yin didn't say a word.

She simply glared at Bai Meiyue and turned to walk to the small room where she had stayed last night.

In fact, looking at Lu Yin's performance, Bai Meiyue was certain that the woman was somewhat scared of her. If not, why would she run away like a monster was chasing after her?

She curled the corners of her lips and snorted. However, she only glanced at Lu Yin before pulling her gaze away; since Lu Yin didn't mess with her, she didn't want to bother with the woman either. But as she shifted her gaze, her eyes fell on Jiang Haidai.

The woman was holding a small pot in her hands and seemed to have been paralyzed with embarrassment and humiliation as she looked at Bai Meiyue. The way she looked at Bai Meiyue, it made her feel like she was a big bad wolf and the woman in front of her was a little rabbit.

If not, why was she staring at her with that terrified gaze?

"What's the matter?" Realizing that Jiang Haidai wanted to ask her something but was hesitating, Bai Meiyue struck the conversation first.

When Jiang Haidai heard Bai Meiyue's question, her face turned even more red. She blinked her dewy eyes and asked in a soft voice, "Miss Bai, can I cook some rice? I found a few eggs in the back of the house. They are not fresh but they can still be eaten."

Though the eggs were not rotten, their smell was a bit too strong. If she cooked just the eggs, then it would be hard for her and the child to eat. After all, pregnant women and children were more sensitive to smell.

"Don't worry, I will not take the supplies for nothing. I will go out and kill the zombies for you. I heard that the crystal nuclei are a good thing. I will collect them and pay for the rice with them. I can also cook and clean well, and I—I also know how to sew clothes and toys for children; if you bring me along, I can take care of the children if —if you don't mind—"

"Alright, take it," Bai Meiyue interrupted Jiang Haidai and handed her a big bowl of rice. "I will leave the cooking to you then; cook some fried rice for the team. I am tired so I will need a bit more, so make sure that you pay attention to the proportion."

She was about to head back to her room and sleep a bit more but then she paused and turned to look at Jiang Haidai.

"If you want to collect crystal nuclei, it will not be easy; what's more, you have a child with you. It will be difficult if you rush out without adequate preparation. First, you need to teach your son to wait. Or you need to get stronger so that you can carry him on the back."

"But given that you are carrying a child, I don't think that's possible. So you might as well entrust the child to someone or teach him to stay inside the car when you are not with him instead of running around. Once this child is born, you can carry the two of them around in a baby sling or something of the sort."

"In the apocalypse, it's better to carry your children and keep them close instead of entrusting them to anyone."

"I understand," Jiang Haidai was willing to learn. She turned and looked at Meng Suisui, who was now swinging the large machete in her hands and cutting down the dummy that she had created with the haystack. She practiced one move many times and Jiang Haidai knew that Meng Susisui was trying to strengthen her arms.

Only by getting stronger would she become stronger.

Bai Meiyue nodded before turning around on her feet and heading out of the kitchen. She woke up too early and wanted to sleep some more.

Half an hour later, Jiang Haidai was done cooking the fried rice. Once she finished cooking, she packed a small bowl with rice and went to look for her son. Meng Guo was still sleeping but when his mother shook him awake, he opened his eyes and smiled toothily at Jiang Haidai.

Seeing her son doing better than yesterday, Jiang Haidai smiled at him. She wiped the drool off his face and then started feeding her son the fried rice that she had cooked.

Though the rice had little to no seasonings, it was the best meal that Meng Guo had in the past few days. He finished the fried rice without any complaints.

Once her son was done eating, Jiang Haidai returned to the kitchen and was scooping out some rice for Bai Meiyue when she heard someone enter the kitchen. She turned and saw Lu Yin standing at the entrance of the small kitchen.

"Miss Lu?"

"Can you scoop some rice for Brother Qian and the rest? They have finished cleaning up the zombies and must be hungry. I will take their breakfast to them and won't disturb you." Lu Yin wanted to take advantage of Bai Meiyue's absence.

If that woman was awake, she would have tread carefully, but now that Bai Meiyue was sleeping, Lu Yin was not scared. Bai Meiyue was asleep; what could the woman do when she was sleeping? It wasn't as if someone in the team would wake up Bai Meiyue and tell her that she was trying to get close to Lei Qian?

Anyway, she was just delivering breakfast.

When Jiang Haidai heard Lu Yin's request, she wanted to refuse but she was afraid that if she left Lu Yin in charge of the pot, this woman would divide the rice into unfair portions. Even if Jiang Haidai only spent a day with Lei Qian and Bai Meiyue's team, she had more or less understood their dynamics!
