Apocalyptic Rebirth: With a repairman system space, she rises again.-Chapter 435: Points to note!
They both stopped as they had reached the car. Hades opened the door for her, but she did not get in as their conversation was unfinished.
Rubbing her hands along his arms, she smiled softly and asked, "Do you still worry about White spending time with the boys?"
Hades thought about the little bear cub and smiled. The cub was spoiled so much that he was like a baby that would never outgrow the infant stage. It was sweet and adorable. The only harm it ever caused was reporting every little grievance to him or his wife.
"White is a big baby. I have no worries about him spending time with the boys."
She opened her mouth.
"Maybe it is because he is a bear and Ala is human...or human like." He continued. "Animals are practically naked. You can tell when they are angry, hungry, hunting, tired, sick. They live to eat, reproduce and survive.
Us on the other hand. We are cunning and complicated. Ala is a child, but she controls her emotions so well, it is impossible to tell what she is thinking. She has also gone through a lot. A tragedy like the one she experienced can mess up someone."
"So, you are worried that her trauma may not heal and it will affect Ariel." She said slowly.
Hades looked up. "God, I hope I am not coming off like an asshole." He lowered his head and met her eyes. "I am not just worried about Ariel but everyone on the base. When I heard that she has superpowers, I became anxious."
Sunshine arched her brow. "We have a baby on the base that could have caused an earthquake while she was in her mother’s womb. In comparison to all the children I saw in the apocalypse with superpowers, Ala does not scare me. All she wants is a home where she won’t be abused."
She would have kept going but had to stop when Day cleared his throat from two feet away.
"Doctor Flora is here." he announced with caution.
Sunshine and Hades turned their heads to the woman who they had been trying to meet since Ariel shared the news of her role in his life.
She was tall, with a calm smile and open handbag full of papers.
"Good morning," she said, adjusting her red rimmed glasses. "I have received many invitations to meet up with the both of you. I apologize for not responding to a single one in time. I am much busier now than I ever was."
Sunshine smiled stiffly. She had heard everything about the rich folks and their hogging of the base therapists to complain about the rights Sunshine had denied them, less than exciting marriages, having to do menial jobs, and their fears as the world appeared to be ending.
"How is Ariel paying you?" Hades rubbed his forehead.
Dr. Flora maintained her smile. "He is the base supply manager, we battered. He offered me a supply of black hole donuts every Tuesday, fresh fruit, bread, noodles, coffee and a solar battery. I will also be allowed to connect to the base Wi-Fi when necessary and he will convince you both to have me moved to your building. Oh, and personal protection of the kids’ squad in emergencies for me and my family. He is quite resourceful."
Both adults were shocked. Ariel had been really generous.
Above them, the bubble shimmered and sent off an alarm as a fresh wave of mutated birds slammed against it. Just like others that had been sent, they tried to use their claws to force it to pop. In return, it released sparks like fireworks that blasted the birds away.
The watchers hovered from above, waiting for end results.
It was such a normal occurrence that Sunshine did not even flinch.
Dr. Flora on the other hand appeared to be nervous. "Don’t worry, the watchers test the strength of the bubble whenever they get a chance. They will never get through." 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
As if on cue, they all looked up. Pink streaked across the sky, shrieking in anger, eyes burning with fury. She tore into the bird beasts with violence that displayed the rage she had been holding on to.
Dr. Flora clutched the cross on the small gold chain around her neck. "Oh my, we have never seen that before."
Sunshine cleared her throat. "Now doctor, about Ariel. It was a surprise for me and his father to learn about you. Isn’t there a law about parents being informed about such things?"
"There are also laws about client confidentiality." Dr. Flora said firmly. "Ariel is my client. He has the right to privacy. I could not inform you before becoming confident that a dangerous home situation was not what brought him to me."
Hades sputtered. "Dangerous home situation! If anybody is in danger, it is us because he controls the food menu and counts how many spoons of sugar we put in the milk."
Dr. Flora lost her smile.
Sunshine pinched his arm secretly while smiling at the doctor. "He cares about our health, and he keeps an eye on the sugar intake because diabetes runs in his father’s side of the family. We are more concerned because he is eleven. What normal eleven-year-old needs a therapist?"
Dr. Flora was taken aback. "Normal! I mean...yes, he is normal. But he is also very uptight. He believes you two are...how did he phrase it? Ah yes--’childish, wasteful, and prone to frivolous displays of affection.’"
Sunshine snorted. "Exactly what do you mean by frivolous displays of affection? Is this because I amended the loyalty contract to add a clause demanding for two hugs a day."
"Three," Hades corrected.
Dr. Flora nodded. "Oh yes, I heard about that. He does find it excessive. Just like the mandatory family sword fights, cuddling during movie night. Mandatory singing, hugs and dancing whenever Castiel and White fight and make up."
The parents exchanged a look. Hades silently said, ’I warned you about that.’ Sunshine replied silently, ’I know.’
Dr. Flora pulled out her notebook and a pen. "Now, I cannot share details of my sessions with Ariel. But I can offer some points to...not."
"Points to not?" Sunshine asked, repeating the words with a frown as if they had offended her altogether with the doctor.
"Yes. Things you should avoid doing if you want Ariel to feel respected."
Hades groaned. "This is ridiculous. He is loved and healthy."
Dr. Flora raised a finger. "That is all true and he loves you both, a lot. So much so that he glares at me and critics me if I dare say anything that doesn’t paint you both in the positive light."
Sunshine scoffed. "And what is it about us that you think is worth criticizing?"
Dr. Flora’s eyes briefly glance at Sunshine’s finger that was tapping the head of the hammer around her waist. "We are here to talk about Ariel." She smiled and met Sunshine’s eyes again. "Point one: Do not refer to him as champ around his peers. He finds the term condescending. That and sweetie, kiddo, buddy."
Sunshine rolled her eyes. "He is my son and I love him. I call him that because I think we are close. Do you see me calling random babies champ or sweetie?"
Dr. Flora nodded. "Yes. According to Ariel, you call your friends sweetie. Other boys and girls are referred to as champ when you want to encourage them or act politically loving."
"Politically loving!!" Hades exclaimed.
Dr. Flora raised her hand, moving the pen from side to side. "You know how a presidential candidate goes around kissing random babies to appear nice and down to earth?"
