Apocalyptic Rebirth: With a repairman system space, she rises again.-Chapter 449: To mark or not?
Unaware of the losing deal she had made, Sunshine was rubbing her hands like a thief savoring the thought of stolen treasure. A thought crossed her mind that made her pause.
Sunshine looked around the space, searching for anything she had not noticed. "System, you said my space had upgraded. Why does it look the same to me?"
[The size has tripled. But that is not something you would notice with a simple glance. You did not notice but next to your workshop, there is a new station which is known as the forge corner. Once activated, you can have a blazing hot fire that never runs out and a cool bed for delicate work.]
She was already on the move before the system even finished explaining.
"Activate the forge corner."
The air became slightly hot and cool at the same time. It shimmered faintly as if something was moving within the space. Two structures appeared. One was a stone hearth glowing with red runes and embers that never died. Beside it a crystalline like glass icehouse with a vent that exhaled cool mist.
It made the space feel different. Alive. Like a land between summer and winter at the same time.
[Are you satisfied with this upgrade, host?]
Sunshine rubbed her hands together, "You stole my points, but you did it for a good cause. I will forgive you now."
She approached the stone hearth first. The red counter glowed even redder, and flames rose to the surface. Sunshine shuddered. "Now this can melt anything in the universe."
The flames surged even hotter, like they wanted to prove her right.
[The flames can be controlled with a thought, and they respond to what you are repairing. If you require low heat, they soften.]
She stretched her hand out. The heat instantly changed, changing to something warm. Human friendly. It seemed to wrap around her, seeping into the cold nature of her body from her cryokinetic abilities.
She took a few steps into the crystalline glass icehouse. It was like coming home. The cooling mist flowed to her flies to honey. It shimmered a light icy blue where the flames burned bright crimson.
Sunshine couldn’t help but grin. "Did I miss anything else in the upgrade?"
[Nothing special but from now on, finished items that are crafted or repaired in your dimension will get your signature. Of course, it has to be faint because not all people want foreign marks on their things.
So, you can choose a personalized mark that is registered by the council. For a fee of course. Or, you can use the universal repairman mark. Which is free. I think we both know what you are going to choose.]
She held her hand up. "Now wait a minute. I know I am cheap but let’s not jump to conclusions too quickly. I can see myself leaving a little snowflake mark with an ’S’ in the middle on the things I repair or create.
The opportunity to leave one’s mark in the universe is not one everyone gets. I will not waste it."
[In that case, prepare 1000 galactic coins. If you are paying in gold, 25 bars ought to do it, the big ones.]
She made the calculation first. That was about one three and a half million.
"That is like one whole exo suit." She muttered. So, was it worth it? She needed to first give it a real good think before making a decision.
In the meantime, she wanted to test out the forge corner personally. She had many books on all the things repairmen had crafted and sold in universal markets. While most were beyond her ability, she could get ideas from small things.
She perused through one book and paused on the image of a ring. There were thousands of ring pictures in the book. Clearly, all repairman dipped their toes in the jewelry market.
There was a faint shimmer and Hunter appeared beside her. Like Tank, the dog could come and go as it pleased in the space.
"I want to make a ring." She looked at the dog. "But it needs to have a special feature. However, almost everything has been done. Any ideas on what I can do?"
Hunter laid down and closed her eyes. "Whatever you do, don’t go into the medical sector. It is over saturated. When it comes to jewelry, beauty is all that matters. It doesn’t matter if the special feature is similar to others."
She nodded. In that case, it was very simple. "I have seen a ring with voice whisper tech. It allows the giver to record one sentence that the wearer can replay. Let’s see if I can make it more than one sentence."
Hunter did not respond.
Sunshine selected the materials she intended to use, like the remains of the sword she had fixed for Bjorn and gold. She placed the alloy on the counter above the flames. The temperature responded to her intent.
As the materials started to melt and separate, the radio on her belt crackled. Nimo’s voice spilled through the static.
"Suni, I have been waiting for you in the training room for an hour. What kind of breakfast are you having over there?"
Sunshine picked it up, smiling, "Neems, I am taking a day off everything today. But we can meet up later for a beer and some chips and fish. I will bring my dog, and you can bring yours. We can see whose dog is faster?"
Nimo grunted. "I am not going to the bar Suni. Or the field. Or the movies. Or anywhere outside my house. Dwayne was waiting outside my house in the morning. He dragged me to go running with him and he said he would go running with me every morning from now on." She sighed. "I don’t know Suni, I am confused. Is he messing with me?"
Sunshine’s eyes stayed on the molten alloy. "Neems, I thought you would be jumping for joy. Over the moon." She took her tongs and pulled out the glowing metal, transferring it to the crystalline house. "When there was no progress, you were miserable. Now there is progress, and you are whining like a broken door. Choose a side sweetie."
Nimo groaned.
Sunshine picked up her hammer and started to strike at the metal. Each strike echoed in the space, ringing like a heartbeat.
"You don’t understand Suni. Everything he does is driving me crazy. He did not explain why he wants to run together. I have been guessing his motives for hours." Nimo whined. "What do you think he wants?"
"Firm thighs, rock hard abs, a healthy skin and gut." Sunshine giggled. "Why else do people run in the morning?"
The alloy bent, curved and began to take shape.
"Not funny Suni." Nimo made a little growl. "I just don’t want to be confused."
"Or to waste your time holding on to a man that will never open up." Sunshine added. "I...."
"Gotta go Suni, we have a herd of mutated cattle about to attack Westbrook. Prepare that gold or cash. There is a lot of excitement out here."
"Hey..." Suni tried to stop her, but Nimo was already gone.
So, she turned on her music and focused on her task. But hardly had she started when she got a system notification.
[Host, it is time for your first assignment with Nine. Prepare to leave in a minute.]
