Chapter 514: Start kicking down doors.

Sunshine had not slept well during the night, and not because she felt the weight of the apocalyptic world on her shoulders. No, she tossed and turned like a child on the eve of a forbidden festival, grinning into her pillow, rolling onto her back, then her side, then her back again. Hades had growled a few times asking her to get some sleep.

She had tried but her mind would not let her, her mind swirled with questions. What if it worked? What if it the ice moon worked? It would be the coolest thing she would have created from her imagination.

Before the faintest suggestion of dawn crept into the sky, she gave up on sleeping entirely, sat upright, dragged a hand down her face, and laughed softly to herself. "How did the night pass by so fast?" she muttered, swinging her legs off the bed carefully not to wake her husband.

She rushed through the morning routine of taking a bath, brushing her teeth and dressing up. Excitement buzzed through her veins as she pulled on her boots, tied them tight, and headed out before the first morning crow could finish clearing from the rooster’s throat.

When she reached her car, she was forced to stop because Major Elio and Father Nicodemus were resting on the roof. The Major was drinking coffee, and the priest was drinking something cold, his vast wings spread out as if he would take flight at any moment.

"What do you two lack?" Sunshine asked, twirling the car key holder around her finger. "Beds, sheets, nice houses....."

"We have a breach." Major Elio interjected, jumping down from the roof of the car. "Someone is smuggling raw gold out of town."

"And Levias Marrow Iv hydration packs from the lab." Father Nicodemus flew up and then floated down lightly, like a feather before his feet touched the ground.

Sunshine clenched her jaw. "What idiot is brave enough to break the rules in my territory and who are they selling to?"

Major Elio yawned.

Father Nicodemus shrugged. "Carson is on it."

"Good." Sunshine replied coldly. "Help him with whatever he needs. Start kicking down doors and increase security at all the gates. If so much as a pebble is being moved from one town to another, I need to know."

Major Elio nodded. "I figured you would say that. My money is on the rich folks. It takes money to convince someone to break the rules of the lab."

"And power." Father Nicodemus added slowly. "Perhaps you should look within your own house before pointing fingers outside."

Sunshine got the message he was trying to convey. She pulled open the car door and said solemnly, "No Quinn did this. You have a week to find me answers." She paused and smiled, "Thank you for your hard work."

She started the car and drove off. While driving, she made a list of reasons why no Quinn could possibly be involved in the smuggling. The answer was one really; none of them wanted another party to become stronger than them.

Her money was also on the rich folks. And when she found out who it was, her hammer would smash common sense into them before kicking them out of her base.

She was still compiling a list of possible suspects when she finally arrived at the lab section. The lights in the building were on. Some employees, especially the researchers were already on duty.

Dr. Sing was one of those. The door to his office was open when she arrived and the doctor was inside. He didn’t look up at first, his eyes glued to a microscope as though the secrets of the universe were about to crawl out of it and wave.

For a second, Sunshine considered scaring him.

"Mrs. Quinn," he said calmly, without looking up. "I have been more than expecting you."

Sunshine let out a heavy sigh that turned into a smile halfway through. "Doctor, please tell me you’re not going to make me wait," she said, leaning forward with her hands on the desk. "Some of my missions are literally stuck in limbo because I was waiting for you to finish this thing." She wanted to go to Ferry Island to retrieve the bodies of the children that Amber said were still there.

Also, she wanted to scan the town for other missing children, but she could not take her people to a place with a permanent mist without precautions. That was where the Reddix pills came in.

Dr. Sing finally lifted his head, adjusting his glasses with two fingers. "Straight to business, I see."

"Good morning doctor," Sunshine replied sweetly. "Now show me the miracle drug."

He huffed out a quiet chuckle and stood, moving toward one of the transparent drawers that held newly synthesized medicines. As he pulled out a tray, Sunshine’s eyes locked onto it instantly.

Nestled neatly inside were oval-shaped pills of different colors, but not like the ones she was used to. These were transparent, with a jelly-like fluid suspended inside.

Sunshine picked one up carefully between her fingers and turned it in the light. "Huh," she hummed. "Interesting. It looks like candy."

"I wanted children to look forward to taking it," Dr. Sing said dryly. "The taste is off putting."

"Good thinking doc," Sunshine replied with a chuckle.

Dr. Sing continued explaining that based on his calculations and tests, the pill should reverse side effects of various poisons, including long-term exposure toxins, airborne contaminants, and chemical agents_ but he emphasized, rather stiffly, that it had not yet been tested on living subjects.

"Ah," Sunshine said, nodding thoughtfully.

A red beam swept over the pill as the system scanned it, the familiar hum filling her ears.

The system’s voice chimed cheerfully, [Congratulations host for creating a drug capable of countering poisonous gases, including radiation you have earned yourself a pass to any world of your choice.]

Sunshine’s face lit up. "Alright! Now we are talking!" she exclaimed, pumping her fist. "Doctor? No need to worry. The pill works."

Dr. Sing stared at her. "...That is not how science_"

"_ works, I know," Sunshine cut in, already pocketing that very pill. "But I gave you the ingredients and the measurements, so I know better than anyone what it takes for it to work." She spun on her heel, then paused and looked back at him. "So how soon can you mass produce?"

He pinched the bridge of his nose, sighed, and looked at her "We already have about one thousand pills prepared and we will continue production as soon as you provide more levias marrow extract and the phimma bloom petals. The raw materials are painfully thin.

The marrow you send over is now split into ten parts. Every professor wants some for their research project. Even the damn plastic surgeons want it because it can help regrow new skin. Apparently, the possibilities are endless."

Sunshine nodded briskly. "I will work harder to deliver more." She would have to take another trip to the Levias Sea.

"And I want fifty percent of the marrow, Mrs. Quinn. This is not a negotiation." He grumbled unhappily.

Sunshine nodded. "I will have Ariel put it in writing."

Dr. Sing waved his hand, dismissing her. His eyes and hands located the microscope. Sunshine turned to leave, thinking of which squad would go with to Ferry Island. It was finally time to meet Vicente again.

"Mrs. Quinn," Dr. Sing called after her.

She stopped at the door and glanced back. "Yes?"

"What should we call them?" He asked, genuine curiosity flickering in his eyes. "The pills. Are we using my name again? Something like Sing Serum, Sing-a-lixur, Singularity because one pill can save you. SingSpiration, Singpocalypse." He smiled, eyes brighter than the moon on a cold night, "I have got it. Last Sing Standing."
