Chapter 142: Marking Dr. Paige

Almost two months had passed since the typhoon began.

Now, as Elena looked from her balcony, she was stunned to realize that the howling wind had finally stopped.

However, the rain continued to pour, but she could sense that this typhoon would end soon.

It felt as though disasters were advancing faster than her past life. She didn’t know what was causing this, but she needed to prepare now.

’The next one should be an ice age disaster.’

She sighed, but then a smile broke across her face.

Opening the Paradise shop had been a success, and she was now concentrating on creating more valuable items in anticipation of the next disaster.

Supplies were the most sellable items, followed by medicine.

She still had a lot of them stored, and with production now running inside the space, she would have more than enough to sell.

Next on her agenda was cotton; the cold would soon seep in, and everyone would need more warmth to survive.

Unfortunately, the clothes in every department store had been soaked, making it difficult to salvage them now.

She instructed Uncle Anthony to start modifying the industrial processor to blend cotton with wool.

’This fabric would definitely sell like hotcakes in cold weather.’

Seeing his wife engrossed in watching the pouring rain, Ethan gently interrupted her, saying that lunch was ready.

"The strong wind is finally gone," Elena said, letting him know about the change in the weather.

"I know; it disappeared this morning."

"Then why didn’t you tell me?" Elena complained.

She needed to be aware of every single change regarding the disaster to plan her next move effectively.

Ethan quickly explained, hugging her and caressing her belly, "You were sleeping soundly, and I didn’t want to interrupt you. By the time you woke up, I had already forgotten."

"Next time, you have to tell me, okay?"

"Alright."

"Do you remember I told you about my dream? If I’m not mistaken, the next disaster will be cold weather."

"I know. I’ve already secured our thermal clothes, so there’s no need to worry."

"Good. Well, I’m thinking about our Paradise shop," Elena replied, sharing her idea of running the industrial processor to create fabric.

Ethan nodded, then thought about the trees that could be used to warm the houses and suggested.

"Then I support you wholeheartedly. By the way, why don’t you also sell logs cut from the mini forest?"

"Yeah, those trees are growing well. The firewood would definitely warm the entire house," Elena agreed, thinking it would add to her profits.

"Aren’t the jades and antiques enough?"

"We exchange a lot, but I want to upgrade the Golden Tablet in one go. I just don’t want to be disappointed if it’s not enough."

"That’s up to you, then."

Afterwards, Ethan guided her to sit at the dining table.

"Let’s have our lunch. Here it is; I added your favorite dried fish this time. I still don’t understand why you like this smelly one so much."

"What smelly? It’s good and delicious," Elena retorted, then added with concern, "If you find this food really weird and can’t stomach it, you don’t have to eat the same dishes as mine, okay? Don’t force yourself."

Elena was worried that her husband would eat the same dishes as her, even though he didn’t enjoy them.

She understood that her taste changed easily; one day she liked sweet foods, and the next, she craved something sour.

Her husband, on the other hand, simply ate everything offered to him.

She didn’t want to torture him, so she asked to eat what he liked.

"Okay, I’ll listen to my wife," Ethan replied, taking another dish for himself. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

They both ate with gusto when they were interrupted by Daniel’s knock, announcing that Dr. Paige had arrived to accept their job offer.

Elena quickly changed her clothes and went downstairs, holding Ethan’s hand.

Looking at them, Dr. Paige simply greeted them and introduced his sister, who was now fully recovered.

"Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Caldwell. This is my sister, Sera."

"Thank you, sister and brother, for saving me," Sera added, grateful for the medicine.

Elena observed the teenage girl and concluded that she was shy and a little introverted.

She smiled and replied, "No need to thank us; it’s all due to medicine and your brother’s care that you are safe."

"But still, thank you for letting me have some," Sera insisted.

"Alright."

Ethan then quickly invited them to enter their unit for discussion.

Upon entering, Dr. Paige was amazed by the modified layout of their unit. It was so secure that pests could not enter.

Sighed. These past few days, he had been doing his best to eradicate the pests, but no matter how he tried, they still came back the next day.

Luckily, the mysterious shop offered free pesticides, making it easy to kill them.

Thinking about the shop, he had a favorable impression of it.

The residents had also provided positive feedback about the shop because it truly lived up to its promise of honest trading, and they never attempted to cheat anyone.

Back in Elena’s unit, she quickly gestured for them to sit on the sofa.

Today, she would mark Dr. Paige and his sister.

"Do you still have supplies with you?" Ethan asked.

"I still have some since I exchanged items at the Paradise shop."

"That’s great. As I said before, we need a vet for our animals," Ethan said, getting straight to the point.

Dr. Paige was confused as to why they had so many animals, given that supplies were scarce nowadays.

"Animals? You have more than just Poochi?"

"Yes, we have a range of animals. But before that, what do you think about the disaster so far?"

"If you have a weak resolve, you’ll vanish from this world. Only those who are prepared are safe from this disaster," Dr. Paige replied.

"What if I offered you sanctuary in exchange for your loyalty?"

"What do you mean, Mr. Caldwell?"

Ethan then told him about the disaster that would soon come, without revealing the details about the space.

At first, Dr. Paige didn’t believe him, but he was shocked when he demonstrated the [Inventory] skill.

"As long as it’s not dangerous and my sister can be with me, I am fine with any rules," Dr. Paige replied with determination.

"Don’t worry. Our team is composed of good people. As long as you do your tasks, that’s enough for me," Elena replied.

Soon, Elena marked Dr. Paige and Sera with a plow-shaped mark, designating them to handle the farm animals and work as their vet.
