Apocalyptic World: Surviving with my husband and my cute little babies-Chapter 198: Ruined World
Chapter 198: Ruined World
"Sis Ewe, look at my dwess. It’s not cute anymore," Little Mia complained.
Her clothes were rugged but clean—they weren’t the pretty outfits she usually liked.
Elena saw the frustration in her eyes and wanted to comfort her and explain that today was different.
They were visiting and mingling with other residents, so wearing beautiful clothes wasn’t a good idea.
But before Elena could speak, Ethan stepped in with a firm tone.
"Niece, we’re not going out for a picnic. There are bad people outside. What if someone tries to kidnap you just because you look too cute in a fancy dress?"
Little Erick quickly added his own warning.
He had seen what the outside world was like—and it was scary.
"Brother Ethan is right, Little Mia. There are a lot of bad people outside. Look at you—so clean and white, like a little bunny," Little Erick added, with his cute, serious expression showing how deeply he meant it.
He then turned to Elena and said, "Sis Ele, we should cover Little Mia’s face. If not, someone might try to take her away."
Erick spoke from experience. Before Elena helped him, he had lived in constant fear.
As people became more desperate, they also became more dangerous.
He had almost been kidnapped once, but his mom had saved him just in time.
Things only started to improve when the Paradise Shop opened. It gave the residents a small glimmer of hope.
Ethan looked at Erick with quiet approval. This boy had seen the worst in people, yet still stood strong.
He admired Erick’s resilience, especially since their world had grown so dark.
But what Ethan didn’t know was that Erick had been silently fighting his own sadness.
His heart had been heavy for a long time—until Elena stepped in and cared for him.
Learning that she was actually his relative brought him happiness. He wanted to live and protect the family he had finally found.
"Alright, let’s wear your bunny suit instead—the one that keeps you warm and insulates heat. It still looks cute, but it’s not too flashy," Elena suggested.
Little Mia’s face brightened with a big smile.
She had actually wanted to wear that outfit and explain it to the adults, but before she could say a word, they had already reprimanded her, which upset her.
’Hmph, being a kid is so hard.’
"Yay, Sis Ewe, you’re the best!" she exclaimed, her excitement fully returning.
"Everyone, get your bunny suits now. We’ll be leaving soon," Elena said as she helped the kids get dressed, adding a bit of brown makeup to their faces to make them look slightly worn and tired.
"Wife, who’s coming with us?" Ethan asked while helping the boys into suits and layering thermal clothes underneath.
Elena glanced around at the people busy with their tasks, then turned toward Aunt Joana and Mrs. Benette.
"Aunties, will you be joining us?"
"I might have to skip this time. I need to help Jessa sort the bottled water later," Aunt Joana replied.
Elena had already marked and assigned her duty at the Eastern Lake, assisting Ramon and Jessa at the water refining station.
"How about you, Mrs. Benette?" Elena asked.
"Me? After I finish cooking this, I have to help at the other shop later," Mrs. Benette replied, politely declining while preparing food to be stored for later.
Even though Elena had already stocked plenty of food in the Southern Inventory sector, the others still preferred to cook and store more, just to be safe.
Elena sighed, feeling a slight pang of guilt for not being as busy as the others.
But she quickly pushed the feeling aside, reminding herself that everyone had their own way of dealing with the ongoing disaster.
Some said staying busy helped ease their worries, even a little.
Soon, the kids were all dressed in their bunny suits, and one by one, they lined up at the door, ready to head out.
"Little Lucy, Little Mia, always stick with your sister Angela," Elena reminded.
"Little Koby, Little Erick, stay close to your sister Sera, okay?"
The kids nodded eagerly, their excitement clear, and then headed downstairs with cheerful energy.
But their excitement faded and turned into disappointment.
The smell in the area was too strong, and although the place was lively, the kids felt uneasy seeing people fighting and arguing.
They held each other tightly, afraid of getting lost in the area.
Elena noticed their tense faces but didn’t console them. She still herself, knowing this experience would help sharpen their awareness.
"We should line up so we can enter the shop later," Elena suggested, wanting them to see how hard life had become for many residents and understand what the disaster truly meant.
As they stood in line, some residents who recognized Elena and Ethan glanced at them with wary expressions.
They hadn’t forgotten the confrontation from last month, and unease flickered in their eyes as they saw the couple again.
Elena raised her brows, didn’t bother to look at them, and then smiled, noting that there were more customers today in Building D than yesterday.
But her smile slowly faded when she spotted a group of kids on the other side—eyes filled with hopelessness, huddled together to keep warm.
It seemed the number of children around the shop had doubled since yesterday.
The kids beside her noticed it too, and an uncomfortable silence fell over them.
"Sis Ewe, don’t they have a house? Why are they hugging each other like that?" Little Mia asked, her voice filled with worry.
Elena didn’t really want to answer the question; she wanted to shield Little Mia from such harsh truths.
But she knew that staying silent would only leave the girl unaware of the world around her.
"They have houses, but they were destroyed. You see, it’s very cold, right? They’re hugging each other to keep warm," she explained gently.
Little Mia looked at the children with pity. "Sis Ewe, should we help them?"
But before Elena could respond, Ethan stepped in, cutting through her sympathy.
It might sound harsh, but he knew Little Mia had to get used to seeing things like this.
"They have parents. And we can’t save everyone, Little Mia. Let their moms and dads take care of them, okay?"
"I understand, Brother Tan," she said softly, though the sadness in her eyes remained as she fell quiet.
What had started as an exciting outing now felt heavy.
The children silently took in the new environment—so different from the safety and warmth of the Paradise. frёewebηovel.cѳm
Elena could feel their discomfort, but what else could she do? This was only the beginning of the apocalypse.
More disasters would come. They needed to be strong.
It was painful for the kids, but she always reminded them: if they trained and grew stronger, they would have a chance to survive in this ruined world.
