Chapter 303: Seeking attention

Over the next few days, Elena remained fully occupied caring for the triplets.

This time, she took the initiative to breastfeed them herself, bathe them, and take them on small tours around the house.

Cherishing the quiet moments they shared as she spoke to them in a gentle, affectionate voice — even if her conversations were mostly one-sided.

Fortunately, the wounds from her pregnancy had completely healed after her second ability awakened, leaving her brimming with renewed energy.

With growing enthusiasm, she even began planning everything for their upcoming one-month old celebration.

Seeing how joyful and attentive their mother was, the triplets grew happy and content, often chuckling and smiling as they eagerly responded to her loving chatter.

Except for their father — who had slowly faded into the background for both his wife and the babies.

Ethan felt deeply wronged by his sons’ constant demand for their mother’s attention.

Worst of all, whenever he tried to spend intimate time with his wife, the babies would inevitably wake up and cry, as if accusing him of stealing her away from them.

He let out a helpless sigh. They were far too needy.

It wasn’t that he loved them any less — on the contrary, he cherished his sons as much as Elena did.

Still, something had to change. Otherwise, he feared he might forever remain his wife’s last choice.

"Do you think this outfit is good enough for the upcoming celebration? I want to dress them in matching animal suits. They’ll definitely look adorable and cute," Elena said, asking for her husband’s opinion.

"Hmmp. As long as it’s wearable and you and the boys like it, then it’s good enough," Ethan replied honestly.

But his lack of enthusiasm immediately annoyed Elena.

"This is the first time we’ll formally introduce our sons — along with their names — to everyone," she said, her tone sharpening slightly.

"I want them to look good. At least put some effort into helping me decide."

Being reprimanded, Ethan felt completely wronged.

"It’s not what you think," he defended quickly.

"I’m also excited to introduce them to our comrades. Look... I just don’t know much about baby fashion. Whatever you decide, I’ll support it. I trust you, wife."

Realizing she might have been overly sensitive, Elena felt a small pang of guilt.

"Alright. Then it’s settled — this will be their outfit. Finn will definitely like it," she said, already absorbed in planning the triplets’ upcoming one-month old celebration.

Seeing that his wife was now in a good mood, Ethan finally voiced his concern.

"Wife... do you think the babies are becoming too dependent on you?"

"Of course they depend on me," Elena replied without hesitation. "They’re still babies. They can’t do anything by themselves."

She raised her brows, giving Ethan a questioning look at his strange concern.

"That’s not what I meant..." Ethan said, hesitating as he searched for the right words.

"It’s hard to explain... just wait a minute. They’ll start crying if they don’t see you for even a short time, and you’ll immediately rush to them. In short... you pamper them too much."

Before Elena could respond, loud cries erupted from the nursery.

"Waaaaa... waaaaa—!"

"Sis Ele!" Little Mia’s voice called out from down the hall. "Max is crying! And I think Finn will follow soon. They want to see you!"

Ethan gave her a knowing look, as if silently saying ’See?’

Even Little Mia already understood that the babies constantly sought their mother’s attention.

They had only been away for a short while, yet the triplets were already anxious without her.

Elena paused, staring back at Ethan as she prepared to leave the room, ready to soothe the babies like she always did.

"Then what do you want me to do? The babies are crying."

But even as she spoke, she began to realize he might be right.

Even when others were entertaining them, the triplets still resorted to crying whenever they sensed she wasn’t nearby.

At first, she had felt proud and happy that they were so attached to her.

But with disasters unfolding outside, she knew she couldn’t remain with them every moment.

In these past few days, she hadn’t even stepped outside the space to personally check the situation because she had stayed constantly by the triplets’ side.

"You’re right," she admitted quietly. "We have to address their behavior. Otherwise, how can I train my abilities like this?"

She needed real combat experience against mutated beasts to strengthen herself.

Though her mind carried the experience of her past life, her current body still needed to catch up — and that worried her.

"Let the elders babysit them," Ethan suggested gently.

"And if they cry for you, don’t go to them immediately. Otherwise, you’ll fall for their cute schemes every time."

He continued, "In that way, the babies will get used to not having you around all the time."

Elena could only nod helplessly, recognizing that this might be the best option for both herself and the children.

Of course, she would still remain their primary caregiver. But during training, she would need to steel her heart and leave them temporarily in Grandpa Caldwell’s care.

’Her sons would understand... eventually.’

With things finally settled, Ethan let out a quiet sigh of relief, reassured that Elena would gradually tone down her excessive pampering toward the triplets.

Soon after, Elena headed to the nursery. She gently lifted Max into her embrace, soothing the crying baby while lightly nagging him about his antics.

"Don’t cry, baby. Mommy will always be with you, okay?" she murmured softly.

She then turned him slightly so he could see the others watching nearby.

"Look, Aunt Mia is here. Uncle Erick and Koby are here too. They’ve been with you all along, so you don’t need Mommy every second. Mommy will be busy sometimes, but with Aunt Mia around, you won’t feel lonely. Grandpa will also be watching over you. Baby, everyone loves you so much."

Baby Max suddenly broke into a wide smile, though tears still clung to his cheeks.

Elena wiped them away gently before placing a tender smooch on his forehead.

"Yeah! Auntie will watch the babies!" Little Mia puffed her chest proudly. "But Sis Ele, where are you going?"

Elena smiled warmly and patted their small heads. "Just like you all, Sis Ele also needs to train outside. So you have to help watch the babies when I’m not here, alright?"

"We will, Sis Ele!" Little Koby and Erick replied in unison.

Afterward, they spoke with Grandpa Caldwell, who immediately agreed — along with the other elders — to look after the babies during her training.

They continued discussing arrangements, including preparations for the upcoming one-month old celebration, when Lieutenant Fern suddenly interrupted.

"Chief, Mistress — Brother Elias and General Kaiser are looking for you. They’re currently waiting in my unit."
