Chapter 56: Is this Heaven?

The surgery took four hours to complete. Thankfully, it was successful.

Aunt Liza and Mrs. Ford decided to have dinner inside while keeping a close eye on the girl, who is now stable.

Meanwhile, Elena stepped outside to get updates and check the Energy Reserve Tab. They had been in the space for nearly six hours, with her aunt and Mrs. Ford extending their stay by three hours beyond the original limit allowed to stay in space.

According to them, a DING alarm echoed in their minds, signaling that they had only ten minutes left before being ejected from the space.

Intrigued, Elena wanted to study the Golden Tablet, but before she could, her husband, who had been waiting for her, hugged her from behind.

"Wife, you’ve been gone for four hours. I miss you," Ethan said with an aggrieved tone.

’What’s going on in her husband’s brain? It was just a couple of hours.’

Unbeknownst to Elena, Ethan was overwhelmed by the chaos outside and sought comfort in her presence.

So she replied sweetly, "I miss you too, by the way. How is the boy?"

Ethan felt a twinge of jealousy hearing Elena care so attentively for that boy.

’Who was this boy that made his wife willing to risk so much?’

"He’s fine; they’re taking turns caring for him," he replied sourly.

’Why was he feeling jealous of a thirteen-year-old boy?’

"As long as he’s okay," Elena said with relief.

"Wife, who is that boy?"

"Let’s sit down first; I want to eat something," she suggested.

With a snap, a ready-made food appeared on the table. She began to eat while Ethan sat closely, watching her intently, as he handed her a plate filled with her favorite food.

Elena smiled at her husband’s care and said mysteriously, "I dreamed about the boy. He was a great help to us, especially to you. Try to nurture him; who knows, he might surprise you."

In her past life, Ethan had discovered Daniel, saving him from starvation out of compassion.

Ethan became a brother figure to Daniel, and when he recovered, he pledged to follow them.

Daniel had a brilliant mind and could strategize exceptionally well. He was the reason why the team nearly overthrew the aliens in the past.

But he was also unpredictable—insane. He didn’t know fear, like a madman willing to do anything to win. He would only listen to them; and no one else could boss him around.

Ethan raised his brows with a hidden agenda in his tone. "Then I’ll listen to you, wife. I’ll definitely train him well."

Seeing his expression, Elena couldn’t help but roll her eyes.

"By the way, how is the situation outside?"

"It’s not good. The water is still rising, and I’m afraid we might not be able to leave for a while," Ethan replied, concern etched on his face.

He then recounted what he had seen outside.

"Don’t worry; it will recede soon. Once it does, we should leave immediately," Elena reassured him.

Seeing her tired face, Ethan felt a wave of distress.

"How about I move alone, and when I’m almost near City B, you can exit to my entrance spot?" he suggested.

Elena shook her head. "I think you forgot. If I could have done that, I would have already exited to Oslo or Xander’s entrance spot in City A. Remember, I can only exit to your entrance spot within a 1 km range of my current location."

She paused, then added, "How about I move alone? When I’m almost in City B, I could pull you. Technically, I can drag anyone to my entrance spot without limitation."

"No way," Ethan replied firmly.

’Leaving his wife to face the chaos outside was simply not an option.’

"Why such a reaction? So, in short, we will go together, okay?" Elena said, glaring at him.

’If he disagreed, she would make sure he slept in the guest room.’

Ethan nodded in agreement, and afterwards they had their tender moments while they shared a loving kiss.

"Okay, enough! I think I forgot something," Elena pondered.

Suddenly, she remembered the Golden Tablet and needed to check the Energy Reserve tab status. She immediately summoned the Golden Tablet.

Ethan’s brows raise a little as he sees her summon the tablet. "Wife, why did you summon the Ra... I mean Tablet?"

He almost slipped and called it the Ragged Tablet, but her menacing smile made him quickly change his words.

"Aunt Liza and Mrs. Ford have been here for an extra three hours. I want to check how much spiritual energy has been taken," Elena said, her tone laced with worry.

"Let’s see... on the Marked List tab, it says 1% for each of them. So basically, every three extra hours equals 1% of the total Energy Reserve tab. Husband, we must really conserve energy."

"By the way, what’s the conversion rate for each jade and antique in the Energy Reserve tab? And how much do we need to upgrade this Golden Tablet?" Ethan asked, curiosity piqued.

"For the Energy Reserve tab, 1 low-grade jade equals 0.1%, 1 medium-grade jade equals 0.3%, and 1 high-grade jade equals 0.5%. As for antiques, it depends on how long they have absorbed spiritual energy. We really need to hoard more jades and antiques," she explained.

"Okay, wife," Ethan replied, nodding.

"For the Experience Tab, to upgrade this Golden Tablet to Tier 1, we need to reach 100%. Sigh... the conversion rate is 1 low-grade jade equals 0.0001%, 1 medium-grade jade equals 0.001%, and 1 high-grade jade equals 0.01%. Antiques vary based on their absorption time. I tried a 1000-year-old antique, and it only contributed .3%. Husband, we really need to loot jade and antiques later on," Elena said, her voice tinged with frustration.

Seeing the pitiful expression on his wife’s face, Ethan couldn’t help but smile and kiss her cheek.

"I’ll definitely hoard a lot later, wife. Just make sure to prepare a good reward for your husband," he said teasingly.

"Hmmp. Of course, husband is the best," Elena replied with a smile, rolling her eyes.

’Hmph! Reward my a**, this man always thinks of pinning her down on the bed.’

Their playful banter was interrupted by Grandpa Caldwell, who cleared his throat. "Ahem! Granddaughter, the young boy is now awake."

At the news that Daniel was awake, Elena quickly teleported them to the tent.

Daniel was trapped in a nightmare, reliving the moment his sister died during the tsunami. In his dream, he searched desperately for Lucy in the swirling water, crying out for her as panic consumed him.

Suddenly, he awoke, sweat dripping down his face. As he took in his surroundings, he noticed the comfortable bed in the tent, the refreshing air free of the foul smells that had haunted him, and a sense of peace washed over him.

’Am I in heaven? Is my sister here? Finally, we won’t suffer again.’

When people suddenly appeared before him, Daniel was taken aback. They looked so clean and beautiful, starkly contrasting to the chaos and devastation he had just experienced. In that moment, he thought that he truly had died.

’This must really be heaven.’

With distress in his voice, he pleaded, "Angels from heaven, before you erase my memory and judge me, please let me see my sister for one last time."

Tears streamed down his face as he cried with all his heart.freёnovelkiss.com
