Armor-Piercing Munition: Face Me, Carbon-Based Monster!-Chapter 569 - 291: True Mountain City People
"Ceasefire! Ceasefire!"
"Order the drones to stop automatic counterattack!"
"They can’t penetrate our armor!"
Chen Jian shouted orders from the vehicle as the refugees, noticing the drones overhead, quickly hid back into the roadside bushes.
The gunfire ceased; this "attack" came suddenly and ended just as mysteriously.
By the time Chen Jian got out of the vehicle, he could no longer find a trace of the refugees, only the drones in the sky still tracking their direction based on intermittent heat signals and Fu Xi’s analysis of abnormal activity signals.
"Should we pursue them?"
Ji Xing, who followed closely behind, asked.
"You go."
Chen Jian said without hesitation:
"Their firepower isn’t strong, try to avoid unnecessary casualties."
"If you can disarm them, just disarm them."
"Understood."
Ji Xing nodded in agreement.
She had just said she hadn’t "hopped around" in a while, but when she received the order, she suddenly dashed out.
At this moment, her strength as a Blood Source was unmistakably evident.
Within merely ten seconds, Chen Jian heard gunfire from the woods.
"Be careful!"
Chen Jian reminded Ji Xing over the radio, and her reply quickly came.
"No problem!"
"Just two guns!"
"You all can come over now!"
Upon hearing this, Chen Jian signaled Li Shi to follow, and the two proceeded along the direction Ji Xing disappeared. Before long, they saw Ji Xing had already cornered the group of refugees on a beast trail in the forest.
It couldn’t be called a standoff; more accurately, it was Ji Xing’s unilateral suppression.
Two refugees, who may have originally possessed weapons, had already been knocked down and lay unconscious on the ground, while the others stared fearfully in Ji Xing’s direction, their bodies trembling incessantly.
But when Chen Jian and Li Shi appeared, the refugees instinctively tried to escape, only to realize they were already trapped in a surround.
"Don’t move!"
Chen Jian spoke:
"We mean no harm----at least not yet!"
"Where are you from? Why did you attack us?"
The refugees looked at Chen Jian in terror, seemingly wanting to speak but shrinking back and closing their mouths.
Chen Jian frowned, gave Ji Xing a look, and the two stepped forward together, first taking the guns from the ground and then driving the already few refugees to the side of the beast trail.
Only then did Chen Jian realize the scale of this group was not small.
Twelve people, male and female, even three children.
A composition fitting for a refugee team.
Judging by their clothing and the supplies they carried, they were also consistent with the identity of refugees.
So, were these people just migrating refugees?
Did they mistakenly attack because they thought their armored vehicle was a monster upon seeing it?
But this doesn’t seem right either.
They initiated the attack from the edge of the forest; I didn’t even notice you, yet you actively attacked?
This kind of thinking would basically mean farewell to surviving in the wasteland.
If that were true, there’s no way they could’ve made it here.
Chen Jian frowned and turned to a relatively calm woman in the group, asking again:
"Who are you?" 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
"Can you understand what I’m saying?"
The woman’s gaze shifted slightly, seemingly wanting to speak.
But in just an instant, she re-tightened her lips, obstinately silent.
Chen Jian was at a loss for words.
He looked at Ji Xing, revealing a hint of helplessness in his eyes.
Ji Xing paused for a moment and then stepped forward to pinch the woman’s chin, forcing her to open her mouth.
"She has a tongue, she can talk."
Ji Xing’s expression suddenly changed, drawing a knife from her waist and pressing it unhesitatingly against the woman’s neck.
The woman’s body instantly stiffened, followed by uncontrollable trembling.
One of the three children tried to lunge forward but was caught by Li Shi, who pinned him to the ground by his clothes.
"You only have one chance."
"Tell us, who are you?"
"I’ll only count down from three!"
"3!"
"2!"
"1!"
Ji Xing’s blade had already cut the woman’s skin, and blood started to ooze, yet she remained silent.
Chen Jian was utterly shocked.
What kind of joke is this?!
This isn’t some interrogation room, and we’re not asking you an impossible question.
You attacked us first! We didn’t retaliate or kill anyone; we just want to figure out who you are and understand if there’s any misunderstanding here!
Is it that hard??
The woman had already closed her eyes, seemingly prepared to face her death.
Chen Jian was increasingly perplexed.
Could it be that your identity is a secret so closely guarded it can be protected by death?
"Stop."
Chen Jian halted Ji Xing’s intention to act, knowing she wouldn’t really kill the woman, at most deepen the threat by cutting her.
Yet, even such actions were already unnecessary.
If they don’t want to speak, then they don’t have to.
After all, they pose no threat to us.
Let’s just assume their guns went off accidentally.
----Or what?
Are we supposed to kill them all?
They don’t look like... a vicious gang or anything.
Chen Jian took a deep breath and said to Ji Xing:
"Take their photos for documentation."
"These people are not allowed to enter our jurisdiction unless they can prove their identity."
"Confiscate their weapons and let them go."
"...Forget it, return their weapons too."
Those shabby single-shot rifles don’t pose any real threat.
