Ascension of the Dark Seraph-Chapter 351: Bitten Badly
Chapter 351: Bitten Badly
Leandra hung her head low.
She was torn, undecided, and most importantly, guilty.
Between trusting Master Tobias’s character and Ravenna’s findings, she didn’t know which one was the real truth. Mirel and Bakar are ignoring her altogether, angry at her for betraying their trust, and at this moment, she has nobody.
It scared her.
The world was closing in all around her, making her feel the suffocating clutch of isolation.
She needed to talk to Ravenna.
Despite being unsure whether she would come back tonight or not, Leandra waited outside her room.
Hoping that she’d come back and help her.
Clank!
Leandra’s head shot up, and her eyes widened when she heard a clanking noise from inside the room.
Following that was the voice of a person, muffled, but clearly there.
She stood up abruptly and faced the door, hoping that it was Ravenna.
Not even remembering the courtesy to knock, Leandra turned the handle and pushed the door open, breaking the lock in the process, but she didn’t care. She was too rattled and desperate to think about the little things.
Brak!
Leandra opened the door with too much force, causing it to slam against the wall.
Her eyes scanned the room and locked onto two figures near the window.
"Ravenna...?" Leandra uttered in a whisper, and then turned to the other person. "Sabrina...?"
Instead of seeing Ravenna coming back alone, hopefully with news that would put all of this to rest and clear Master Tobias’ name, she found Ravenna being supported by Sabrina. She seemed to be in pain, and the contour of her face was very pale.
"Close the door!"
Sabrina shouted, pointing at the door before bringing Ravenna to the bed. frёewebηovel.cѳm
Hearing this, Leandra quickly closed the door and pulled the wardrobe with her power to keep it closed.
She immediately went to check on Ravenna after.
"What’s going on?!" Leandra asked, her voice higher than she intended. She watched as Ravenna lie on the bed, groaning in pain, with blood trickling down the corners of her lips. "What happened?! How did she get like this?"
Instead of answering her questions, Sabrina hurriedly grabbed a cloth and a vial from the drawer.
Quickly, she ripped Ravenna’s clothes.
Leandra sucked in a cold breath when she noticed two small gaping holes on Ravenna’s waist, a bite mark that caused the surrounding veins to bulge and blacken. It seemed to be the source of the pain Ravenna was feeling right now.
Moving decisively, Sabrina poured the healing vial onto the bite mark.
Pssh!
It sizzled as if the healing water was hot.
"Mmphh!"
Ravenna tilted her body to the side a little, enduring the pain as she pressed her head against the pillow.
Blood and sweat had bled into the white pillow, tarnishing its purity with pain and struggle.
"Sabrina, talk to me! What happened to her?"
Leandra looked at Sabrina intensely, eyes sharp, demanding an answer.
She can’t stand another second of not knowing anything.
"I don’t know," Sabrina shook her head as she pressed the cloth with strength over the bite mark, causing Ravenna to tense harder, veins bulging up her neck. "She came to me asking for the person who worked with Master Tobias, who most likely knew everything about the mansion, I told her, and then she left. I was worried that she might get into trouble, so I checked on her."
"Along the way, I found her sitting on a bench, holding her stomach." She recounted everything.
Before Lucivar left, he told her to keep an eye on Leandra.
She didn’t ask him what for, but she reckoned that it had something to do with whatever was bothering Leandra. Sabrina didn’t know the details about Master Tobias’ situation, but she could see that Leandra was bothered by something.
It was when Master Tobias came that she got a sudden impulse to check on Ravenna.
Sabrina could roughly guess from how Leandra acted that Master Tobias was bothering her.
So, when Lucivar told her what to do, he must’ve been anticipating Leandra to do something reckless.
But it wasn’t she who did something.
Leandra stayed in the academy and didn’t seem to have any intention of going out.
On the other hand, Ravenna, not so much.
Because of that, Sabrina went to check on Ravenna, going to Master Tobias’ mansion since Ravenna asked her about the head of the maids, Teresa. And that’s how she met with Ravenna on the side of the street, already in this state.
Hearing this, Leandra gritted her teeth and caressed Ravenna’s head.
"Talk to me... How did you end up like this?" She questioned lightly. "What happened in the mansion?"
Ravenna looked at Leandra, but she couldn’t say anything.
It was the pain—she was too overwhelmed by the pain.
"No use. She couldn’t talk from earlier," Sabrina interjected, sweating profusely. "We need someone to heal her, but calling the healer is not an option. If words got out, this matter would become public—and we don’t want that."
"Zibbo..." Leandra breathed the name, her voice low but firm. "Stay with her, Sabrina. Keep helping her however you can. I’ll look for anything useful, anything at all. Then, I’ll speak to Zibbo again and have him call Lucivar back home. I’m sure he can."
Her eyes narrowed, the weight of reluctant resolve settling in.
"We need him right now," She mused reluctantly. "As much as I hate how he operates, he gets results."
Just as she was about to turn and leave, Ravenna caught her hand.
Leandra turned towards her and watched as Ravenna struggled to get something from her shoe.
Realizing what she was trying to do, Leandra quickly helped her remove her shoes.
As she did, something small clinked against the floor. Tucked inside was a fragment of a gem—tiny, multi-faceted, and shimmering with a faint, rainbow-colored glow. It pulsed ever so slightly, as if it held a power within.
One that stirred something in Leandra’s memory.
It was familiar, but was too faint to place, like remembering the dream that happened last night.
"Raargghh!!"
Ravenna’s scream snapped her out of her daze as she clutched the gem and rushed out of the room.
Just like last night, Leandra reckoned that Zibbo was still at the academy’s entrance.
He was tasked to look after the others, so he must still be there.
However, as she hurried down the floors of the student dormitory, rushing past a handful of students—who turned with puzzled glances at her panicked sprint, she suddenly stopped in her tracks. Her breath suddenly caught.
For a moment, she stood frozen, then slowly lifted her gaze back up the staircase she had just descended.
Her eyes lingered there, wide with hesitation.
She bit down on her lower lip, deciding not to make the same mistake.
Eventually, she ascended the stairs again with somewhere in mind.
Leandra arrived in front of another room and banged on the door impatiently.
"Mirel! Open the door, right now!" She continued to bang on the door, ignoring the students around.
Soon, the sound of rushed footsteps could be heard from inside the room.
Mirel opened the door slightly, looking at Leandra with a tired gaze.
But when he saw the way she panted, her form slicked with sweat, and her urgent face, he realized that something was going on. Their relationship was strained after what happened earlier, so Leandra wouldn’t be doing this if it weren’t important.
"What happened?" He asked whisperingly, heart pounding inside his chest.
"Call Bakar and go to Ravenna’s room right now," She said between pants. "Just go there."
Not even waiting for him to answer, she sprinted back down again, heading to talk with Zibbo.
As for Mirel, he didn’t waste any time and headed for Bakar’s room.
Outside, Leandra ran like a madwoman.
She used her ether and starlight attribute to enhance her legs and moved as fast as the wind.
Even though it was frowned upon to use powers in the academy’s premises other than the few spaces provided for training, Leandra didn’t care, and frankly, the students who were still outside roaming the street weren’t brave enough to say anything.
Only Kalvins, the puppets, warned Leandra about her behavior.
But none of them could stop Leandra either.
She was simply too fast.
Arriving at the main entrance, Leandra panted slightly as her eyes narrowed at the sight of a figure.
As expected, Zibbo was there, talking freely with the guards.
"Zibbo!" She called, rushing towards him.
Hearing his name being called, Zibbo raised his gaze and locked eyes with the approaching Leandra.
A frown crept to his face when he saw a clear urgency on her face.
One that showed she has no time to waste.
Before the two guards could say anything, Zibbo stood up.
He briefly considered knocking them out to make things faster, swift, and silent, but the CCTVS aimed squarely at the main entrance made that option far too risky. It would only bring more trouble than it was worth.
So instead, he forced a calm expression.
Zibbo gestured toward the sidewalk toward Leandra as he casually excused himself from the guards.
Considering Leandra’s face, she must want to talk about something important.
And a secluded place is a way better place than here.
Leandra showed her ID to the guards and walked out of the main entrance, following Zibbo right behind.
Soon, both of them reached far enough from the main entrance to talk privately.
"I need you to contact Lucivar. It’s important." She didn’t waste any time and got straight to the point.
"Lucivar?" Zibbo was taken aback. "He’s far away. How do you expect me to do that?"
"I don’t know, but you must have a way. Think for a second, don’t instantly deduce that it’s impossible."
"But I’ve never tried something like that. Lucivar was always the one who co-"
"Think!"
Zibbo stopped mid-sentence and pursed his lips.
He could tell from Leandra’s expression alone just how urgent the situation was, like it teetered on the edge of life and death. For a moment, he rubbed his chin in thought—searching for any possible way to contact Lucivar.
"There is one thing..." he said slowly. "I can sense a connection—but it’s not to Lucivar."
"Okay, try it!" Leandra urged.
Zibbo nodded and closed his eyes, tapping into the connection he had ever since he became a Vestal.
It didn’t take long for it to work.
"What is it? Why are you seeking me?"
Hearing this, Zibbo’s eyes snapped open as he looked around, searching for the source of the voice.
"Where are you? I can’t see you."
"You can only hear me. So, speak, what do you want? Don’t waste my time."
Nodding his head, Zibbo pointed at Leandra.
"She wanted to talk to Lucivar about something urgent. Can you help us reach him?"
"Hmm? Touch her shoulder so she could hear me."
Doing exactly as he was told, Zibbo placed a hand on Leandra’s shoulder and nudged his chin.
"Talk. She’s listening."
