Chapter 287: 286: He Is Dead

He named it the Emotional Routing technique.

The name alone gave away its purpose —it was a technique that manipulated emotions at their roots.

More specifically, it didn’t create feelings out of nothing. Instead, it magnified the emotions a person already held and rerouted them, redirecting deep affection from one person to another, as long as both targets already existed in the subject’s heart.

For example, if a woman loved a man but also held affection for her child, this technique could sever her bond with the man and amplify her love for the child until it became all-consuming.

The process had to be delicate and subtle.

If done right, the target would mistake the shift for a natural change of heart. But if applied too forcefully, it could fracture the mind or destroy it completely.

Yun Wuji was willing to take that risk.

He intended to turn Yue Wugou’s love for Yue Wuya and Xia Hongyi, two men she loved, into something greater, and redirect it entirely toward her daughter, Xia Qingyue.

He had already decided to kill Yue Wuya. But unlike the original story, where Yue Wugou killed herself after Wuya’s death, Yun Wuji was determined to change that outcome.

If her feelings for him faded, and her love for her daughter surged beyond reason, then she wouldn’t dare abandon her. She wouldn’t be able to bring herself to die.

With the love meant for two men pouring into one bond, she would become a mother in the truest, most obsessive sense, a woman who cherished her daughter beyond everything.

Honestly, Yun Wuji didn’t even like Yue Wugou. He understood her past, her wounds, but he despised how she’d failed as a mother. She abandoned Xia Qingyue, reunited with her only to use her in a fake marriage scheme, and when Qingyue hit rock bottom, after Yun Che’s death, where she became completely alone in the God Realm, Yue Wugou selfishly took her own life.

Leaving her again.

That woman didn’t deserve to die. She deserved to live and make it up to her daughter, whether she wanted to or not.

Yun Wuji could have ambushed Yue Wuya the same way he dealt with Xing Juekong, quickly and cleanly. But this time, because he cared for Xia Qingyue, he didn’t want her to lose her mother. He didn’t want her to suffer another loss. He didn’t want her to feel alone.

So he chose this darker path.

By using this technique, he could ’save Yue Wugou’, and more importantly, fill the hole in Qingyue’s heart, a hole left by years of motherless silence. With her mother’s love reforged into something unconditional, obsessive, and everlasting, Xia Qingyue would never feel abandoned again.

This motherly love is naturally impure and unnatural, and obviously, Yun Wuji would never tell anyone about what he is going to do. This will be his secret that he will keep forever.

He knew what he was doing was close to brainwashing. No—’it was’ brainwashing. Emotional violation at the deepest level. But he didn’t care. Yun Wuji never claimed to be a good person.

Although he didn’t like mindless killing, but if it was for his benefit or for his loved one, he would gladly do it; if he had to brainwash or manipulate people, he would never hesitate.

For his woman, for his wife, Xia Qingyue, he was willing to shoulder any sin.

Even if it meant doing something as filthy as mindbreaking her mother, Yun Wuji would carry that burden alone, just so she could live a blissful, peaceful life.

...

"Young Master Fei, how did it go? Did everything go well?"

An hour later, Yun Wuji stepped out of Yue Wugou’s room. The moment he closed the door, Yue Wuya gripped his shoulders and asked anxiously.

"Moon God Emperor, I already told you it will take two months to heal Mother-in-law. The first session is done, she can now move freely without worrying about exhaustion," Yun Wuji said calmly.

He had used Light Profound Energy to ease Yue Wugou’s injuries in the first few minutes; the rest of the time had been spent applying the Emotional Routing technique.

"Mother-in-law is resting now. You may visit her when she wakes up," Yun Wuji added. Then, he walked over to Luo Guxie and took her hand.

Yue Wuya saw this and opened his mouth to ask hesitantly, "Young Master Fei, this king has something to ask you about..." His face wore an awkward look, but at the same time, there was some intense emotion in his eyes that he failed to conceal.

"Moon God Emperor, I can’t reveal the location of my home planet, and you’ve got no reason to go there anyway," Yun Wuji cut in right as Yue Wuya spoke, as if he’d already guessed his question. "Because Xia Hongyi is already dead."

*The guy is completely useless in the plot; might as well kill him off. If you recall the first few Chapters, you’d probably have seen this coming.*

"What!?" Yue Wuya’s hands began to shake violently, his entire body trembling. The gentle look in his eyes from moments before vanished, his pupils now quivered, rapidly dilating until they nearly swallowed his eyeballs whole!

"Dead? Dead? How can that be!?" Yue Wuya muttered in a hollow voice. "How could he die? How dare he die before I could kill him!?"

If that man had taken any of his countless concubines, Yue Wuya wouldn’t have hated him so deeply, because he felt nothing for them, especially after meeting Yue Wugou, when he stopped touching them altogether. But that bastard stole the woman he loved the most, took her virginity, and even made her bear his daughter!

Now he learns the man is dead?! The one he loathed with every fiber of his being, gone, and yet Yue Wuya had nowhere to unleash his burning hatred!

"How did he die!!?" Yue Wuya summoned every ounce of restraint to steady himself, then questioned Yun Wuji.

"I only learned recently that he died a few months back," Yun Wuji replied calmly, recounting the details of Xia Hongyi’s death.

Though Xia Hongyi was his father-in-law, they’d spoken fewer than three times. Xia Hongyi seemed to dislike Yun Wuji, and Yun Wuji had no interest in bonding with him either; he loved Xia Hongyi’s daughter, not him, so there was no need to curry favor.

After conquering Blue Pole Star, all forces bent to Yun Wuji’s will, yet Xia Hongyi never leveraged their connection to grow his business. Instead, he went out of his way to keep his distance, as if he despised Yun Wuji.

According to Xia Qingyue, her father, Xia Hongyi, had taken his men on a caravan to sell goods when they were ambushed by a Sky Profound Beast. The entire group was wiped out instantly. Xia Hongyi survived, thanks to an amulet his daughter gave him, which could block attacks from anyone below the Emperor Profound Realm. But once the amulet’s energy was depleted, the beast swatted him to death.

He refused all the treasures Xia Qingyue offered him, since they were things Yun Wuji had given her. The only one he took was an amulet Xia Qingyue made herself.

If he’d accepted any of the others, he’d have been teleported to safety the instant danger hit.

Too bad his stubborn, unreasonable hatred for Yun Wuji led to such a pitiful death.

"He was a mortal? A fucking mortal? He died at the hands of an Emperor Profound Beast ant? Hahahaha! Ridiculous! How ridiculous!" Yue Wuya muttered in disbelief, then threw his head back and laughed loudly. His laughter was both relieving and sorrowful; the mixture of emotions he was feeling now was something even he didn’t know.

Both Yun Wuji and Luo Guxie watched the scene in silence, both feeling sympathy for the man. Any ordinary person would not tolerate being cuckolded, let alone someone like a God Emperor, who stood at the very peak of the universe.

After a long while, Yue Wuya recovered some of his composure and spoke, "Young Master Fei, Fairy Guxie, excuse this king for showing such an unsightly sight. I’ve already had Yue Wuji arrange your lodging. If you may excuse me, I need to stay alone for a while."

After he finished speaking, he turned around and left. His steps were shaky, as if he were holding something inside. As he walked, each step left a deep imprint on the indestructible jade floor.

...

Burning Moon Realm, the imperial hall.

All the Moon Eaters and Divine Envoys were gathered, all looking at the Burning Moon God Emperor sitting silently on his throne. The atmosphere was tense as he tapped the armrest of his throne with his index finger.

Fen Daozang, the leader of the Moon Eaters and the Burning Moon God Emperor’s uncle, stood at his left, staring at the invitation card before him. A grave and solemn expression was etched on his face.

On the right side sat Fen Daoqi, the seventh strongest Moon Eater, though he held a far more special identity; he was the Emperor’s advisor and the true brain behind the Burning Moon Realm. The Burning Moon God Emperor held him in deep respect, even referring to him as "Master," despite being a God Emperor himself.

He too was silently looking at the invitation, his deep and shrewd eyes studying it intently.

"Master, what do you think?" The Burning Moon God Emperor finally glanced at him and spoke.
