Chapter 104 - 104

«Why?» Korra asked crying.

«Humans are stronger than you think», I mumbled tiredly. Strength was in short supply.

«It will sow chaos.»

«And something greater will rise from it», I could have shrugged, but I was already having trouble flying, dragging Korra on top of me, «The Fire Nation is a prime example.»

«Innocents will die.»

«And I will always be held responsible», I muttered grimly, «For the rest of my life. Even if these events fade from the pages of history, I will remember them. The deed is much harder for me than you can imagine.»

We flew on in silence. It would be a while before we reached the South Pole. And the flight was hard for me. I'd used up too much energy. So I'd have to take a break.

We arrived just as I was about to run out of fire magic. How we didn't fall off before that, I don't know. We had to stop and rest for a few hours. I even slept. But we had to keep going.

We walked for days. The hardest part was getting past the southern tribe unnoticed. That's where our sabotage skills came in handy. But once we got past the southern tribe, we reached the portal in a few hours. It hadn't changed a bit in all that time.

I threw Korra on my back and ran inside. The forest was now filled with evil spirits, so it took some jumping around, but I still made it to the portal.

«Are you going to open it?» I asked, still trying to keep the question simple.

«So more people can die?» she asked angrily.

I sighed. Too much, she's still a child and doesn't understand simple things. Or are they simple for me? It doesn't matter. I don't want to waste time. I have less than a month left. I concentrated and gathered the knowledge I needed, energized it and gave it to Korra. I gave it to Korra so that it would unfold on its own and she could use it.

«Why?» she asked confused when she realized what she had received.

«It's payment for opening the portal», I shrugged.

I took her by the temples and put her into a deep sleep. Now it had to be done right. Carefully, I entered her mind and began implanting commands. To open the mind portal. Thanks to the my knowledge, I was able to do it quickly enough without straining. I tried to do everything as carefully as possible.

«Rise and fulfill your destiny», I said the code phrase.

The effect was immediate. Korra stood up and walked over to the closed portal, put her hand in, and after a moment a pillar of light shot up.

«You have fulfilled your destiny», I said the second phrase and Korra fell asleep.

I picked her up and stepped inside. A few seconds of bright light and I was out of the portal. And in front of me was a huge circular valley. If you look from above, you can see the Yin-Yang sign. Unfortunately, the entrance to the spirit world was also closed. But I had an avatar. I walked up to the portal and lowered it beside me.

«Rise and fulfill your destiny», I repeated the code phrase again.

Her actions were the same. Standing, she walked over to the portal and opened it. That's it, she's ready.

«Wake up», I finally woke her.

«What happened?» she asked confused and looked around, «And where are we?»

«In front of the entrance to the spirit world», I said with a slight smile.

«But why is it open?» she asked confused.

«You opened it», I smiled, looking at the spirit flying out of the portal and into our world.

«But I don't remember anything», she grabbed her head, «Did you do it?»

«Do you know your history? Who was the first Avatar? How did the first Avatar even happen?» I ignored her.

«No», Korra replied confused.

«Then I'll tell you», I concentrated and gathered all the information I knew, energized it and gave it to Korra, «It's too long otherwise. Sit down and meditate. If you don't believe me, you can ask your past incarnations for advice. I'm going now. And I'll be back at the solstice.»

And I turned and went to the spirit world. Unalak gave me a royal gift when he made me study all possible spirits. I've chosen three that fit my needs, and now I intend to find them.

POV Hama

Hama cried. Bitter tears. Just as she heard the good news, events took a completely unexpected turn. She knows her son, he wouldn't act so cruelly, especially not without a reason. But no one listened to her.

Everyone thought her son was crazy, except that only she knew the truth. And what hurt the most, she couldn't say it. Not under any circumstances. Because she understood her son's motives. He just wanted to be happy.

To love and be loved. But in his long life, he'd done too much damage, so to protect his wife and child, he'd turned into a monster. And he must die. Because good always wins. Except that's exactly why she's crying. Parents shouldn't bury their children.
