And so Guilliman started the next step of his training,

controlled flow.

Using the Arcane inscription pen, he was able to channel a purple energy from within him to power the pen and draw.

But instead of the full picture, he started by first drawing a line, then another and another. He did this process over and over again; hours later, he burned through his reserves of Arcane energy, so he took a break.

This gave the old man some relief, as unlike before with his seemingly infinite reserves of Soul energy, he now had the opportunity to teach Guilliman how to recover his Arcane energy. Of course, he slipped in something about soul energy there too.

"So basically, I just need to circulate soul energy and it’ll replenish my Arcane energy?" Guilliman asked, a smirk appearing on his face.

That was easy!!

"What do you mean by ’circulate soul energy’?" The old man was taken aback. He had just described how to replenish soul energy through meditation and how that, theoretically, also replenishes your Arcane energy.

"Oh? Nevermind," Guilliman smirked. About 10 minutes later, he stood up and continued his practice, leaving the old Devil dumbfounded once again.

Even he needed at least an hour to replenish his Arcane energy, but this kid was brimming with it in a measly few minutes!! Was this some sort of cheat? Did he need to learn it from the kid?

The old Devil smiled bitterly and shook his head.

The teacher was even thinking of asking the student for a cheat? That sounded too out of place.

He kept quiet, watching Guilliman draw line after line as he became fluid with it in under a day.

"Perfect lines, nice curves, and magnificent connections—you might be a prodigy, kid," the old man floated over Guilliman’s shoulder and patted his back. The kid was breaking all his preconceived notions of what was possible in this field.

It looked like his years of searching had finally been rewarded by the heavens.

"Hahaha, it’s harder than it looks," Guilliman smiled bitterly. In all honesty, he thought it would be a walk in the park, but he had to learn not just how to draw the exact line properly—any mistake would lead to a failed product, and some backlash would be sent through his body.

However, if Guilliman was anything, he was someone who was willing to go three extra miles to achieve what he wanted. Pain didn’t matter, neither did failure; what mattered was the results.

"Don’t let it go to your head, you’re still not a full-fledged inscriber yet… that is, until you do that with your pen," pointing to the complex drawing to the side, the old man smirked and a bead of sweat rolled down Guilliman’s forehead.

He had drawn this symbol countless times with a brush, but the thought of doing so now with the inscription pen was giving him a headache.

Aside from his obvious advantage, it seemed like this inscription thing would only get harder the more he tried.

"Give it a go," the old man placed a piece of paper before Guilliman and patted him on the back to start.

The first few lines were easy, but soon things became harder; this thing he was so familiar with now seemed impossible. He kept making the tiniest mistakes.

He would draw the lines too long or too short, the curves would pass the required points, completely ruining the drawing.

It was frustrating.

But with the guidance of the old man, Guilliman quickly got the hang of it, slowly but surely improving as he drew once again into the night.

The next morning, Guilliman’s eyes glowed with a resplendent light. After so long, he had succeeded in his first inscription.

"Good!! This is perfect, boy. You’ve finally done it," the old man beamed with joy, patting Guilliman on the back.

The paper inscription was perfect. It took him a whole night, but he finally got the hang of it.

"Now, for the fruits of your labour," placing the paper symbol on the desk in front of Guilliman. The old man smiled, then Arcane energy glowed at the tip of his pen, causing the paper to slide upwards.

-_-

Guilliman watched with a strange expression on his face that said, "Is that all?"

He used the entire night to draw this symbol, and that was all? He felt like crying, to be honest.

"Hahaha, isn’t it amazing? The inscription allows you to

Move any object independently upwards in a planar direction," the old man smiled, looking for excitement in Guilliman’s face.

But Guilliman seemed unimpressed.

This was a lackluster effect—why did it take so long to make that? Was it even worth all the time he spent? As he prepared to cry in pain, a voice sounded in his head, causing him to frown.

[After a long week of toiling in the Arcane arts, the king of souls successfully inscribed a word of the world, gaining the titled Arcane Scribe]

[Ability: under the right conditions, the king of souls can rewrite the functions of Artificial/naturally occurring treasures]

Guilliman was taken aback.

"Subclass? What’s that?" he said involuntarily.

"Hm? What did you say?" The old man, still distracted by Guilliman’s first successful inscription, turned to him with a confused look on his face.

He couldn’t hear what the system was saying, of course, so he didn’t know what Guilliman even meant.

"Nevermind, did you say ’independently’?" Guilliman quickly changed the topic, since this wasn’t planned by the old man, then he would have to investigate it a little later on his own.

"Yes!! As long as you power the symbol with Arcane energy, you can cause whatever you placed the symbol on to move in that particular direction," the old man explained with a big smile as he waited for Guilliman to see the implications of what he just said.

"That’s actually really useful," Guilliman’s eyes gleamed.

Let’s say he had a throwing knife—if he placed a symbol making it go forward like this one, it could not only increase the speed of that knife, if the timing was right, he could also extend its flight time.

It was overpowered, no doubt.
