Chapter 20 - New Features

[DING!]

A familiar blue panel popped infront of him.

[System Upgrade Requirements Met.]

[Would Host like to initiate system upgrade now?]

[Yes!]/[No!]

Alaric opened his eyes, smirking.

"Hey, why not?"

Yes!

[Initiating System Upgrade...]

[Upgrade in Progress...]

[SYSTEM UPGRADE COMPLETE.]

[+2 to all Stat points]

[+30 Exp]

[New Features Unlocked:]

[Inventory – UNLOCKED]

[Shop – UNLOCKED]

[Obedience Meter – UNLOCKED]

[Loyalty Meter – UNLOCKED]

[Skill Tree – UNLOCKED]

[Harem Tracker – UNLOCKED]

[DP Exchange – UNLOCKED]

Alaric blinked, sitting up slightly on his bed.

"...Harem Tracker?" he muttered, raising an eyebrow.

[Of course, Host.]

[Don't tell me... after accepting the mission to subjugate Selene and stealing the heart of innocent little Livia Duskwood, you weren't expect this?]

"Tch." Alaric clicked his tongue, rubbing his temple. "Whatever."

It made sense in the most absurd way. The system didn't just reward strength.

It wanted influence. Possession. Bonds forged through power or desire.

He straightened, rubbing his eyes. "Fine. What about all those features unlocked? Tell me more about them."

[Inventory – Apersonal pocket dimension only accessible by the Host.

Host can store weapons, items, potions, clothes, and even artifacts. Time inside the inventory froze, preventing spoilage or aging.]

[Shop – The system's marketplace, where Host can spend Domination Points (DP) to buy basic tier items.

Prices vary.]

[Obedience Meter – Shows how compliant a target is to the Host's commands.

Doesn't mean loyalty. They might obey out of fear or debt.]

[Loyalty Meter – Reflects emotional and spiritual devotion toward the Host.

Someone may obey but not be loyal, and vice versa. Once loyalty reaches 100% the target can't betray Host.]

[Skill Tree – Showcase all the skills Host had learnt can learn]

[Harem Tracker – A dynamic log showing all women who've been influenced or claimed by the host. Tracks stats, situations.]

Alaric crossed his arms, taking in all the information presented to him.

Then he stroked his chin and muttered, "Show me shop, what are its contents."

[Accessing Basic Tier Shop...]

Then a translucent grid popped into view, listing various items with glowing icons and descriptions:

🛒 System Shop – Basic Tier Items

• Minor Healing Potion – 50 DP

Accelerates recovery from minor injuries.

• Adrenaline Pill – 50 DP

3x Stat Boost for 10 seconds.

(3/3 Per week)

• Focus Elixir – 55 DP

Boosts mental clarity for a limited time. Enhances comprehension during training or planning.

• Shadowstep Token – 90 DP

One-time-use token. Grants brief burst of speed and silence. Useful for stealth or evasion.

• Charm Enhancer (Temporary) – 105 DP

Temporarily boosts charisma by +5 for 1 hour. Warning: effects stack awkwardly with natural charm.

• Steel Dagger – 100 DP

---

[Note: More items and categories unlock as your system levels up. Higher-tier shops will include combat skills, artifacts, magical tools, and even bloodline essences.]

Alaric skimmed through the list, lips curling slightly

"Huh. Not bad."

Alaric narrowed his eyes as he flicked to another tab. "Why is my skill tree blank?"

[Because Host has not yet awakened his Essence Path. Without an active Path, no skills can manifest.]

Alaric frowned. "So I can't get any skills at all unless I awaken?"

[Incorrect. Skills can still be acquired—just not Essence-based ones. Non-Path combat or utility skills]

"Then how?"

[Host will need to upgrade the system's level. Only then will skill purchases become available in the shop.]

Alaric sighed and flopped back onto the bed, arms behind his head.

"So I need to grow stronger to unlock things that'll help me grow stronger," he muttered. "What a pain."

[Welcome to the circle of power, Host.]

He furrowed his brow, the his eyes landed on—

"What's this one? DP Exchange?"

[DP Exchange allow host to trade Domination points for stats.]

He sat up slightly again, curiosity piqued.

"Show me."

[Opening DP Exchange...]

> Current DP: 0

Exchange Rate: 200 DP = 1 Stat Point

(Limit: 3 stat points per day until System Level 3)

Alaric raised a brow. "Huh."

He folded his arms, thinking.

From the last quest he did—leaving a lasting impression on Livia—he'd earned +50 DP.

"So, I'll need to do something like that four times, then I can upgrade one stat."

[But keep in mind — Domination Points are also used in the shop, for unlocking skills, and other high-level system features. Choose wisely.]

"Yeah, yeah."

Alaric dropped back, rolled onto his side and finally drifted into sleep.

Next morning...

The soft golden light filtered through the narrow window. Alaric stirred, then sat up with a quiet groan. His muscles ached a little from yesterday's work.

He washed his face with cool water from the small basin, wiped it off with a rough cloth, and then began his morning training. Pushups, squats, stretches — slow and steady.

He wasn't just working to pass time.

He needed to get stronger. Physically. Mentally. Step by step.

After wiping the sweat off and cleaning himself quickly, Alaric dressed to his assigned uniform, hiding the iron collar benat the shirt.

And moved to his assigned location—an ornate corridor lined with expensive carpets and floor-to-ceiling windows.

His job today: clean. Again.

The halls were quiet. Sunlight crept in lines across the polished floor, and his mop swished rhythmically across the marble.

Slosh!

Step!

Slosh!

Just as he finished one section and dipped the mop back into the bucket, a slurred voice echoed behind him.

"Fucking... hic... haa... that slutty bitch..."

Alaric's hand froze mid-air.

Clicking his tongue, he resumed.

Of course. It's him.

Then, just as he shifted a little, he saw them.

Ferick. The bastard stumbled forward, wine bottle in hand, crimson liquid dribbling from the side of his mouth to the freshly cleaned floor.

His tunic was loose, and his eyes were half-lidded and red— locked on something ahead of him.

A maid.

Young. Maybe seventeen. She stood with her back to the wall, clutching the empty tray to her chest like a shield. Her hands trembled. She didn't dare look up.

Ferick staggered closer, a smirk twisting on his bloated face.

His hand lifted.

But before he could touch her—

"You fucking mutt."

The words cracked through the air like a whip.

Ferick paused. The maid flinched.

Alaric stood behind them, rubbing his hand through his hair with visible annoyance.

"Can't you drink somewhere else? I just cleaned that part."
