Awakening Domination System: But I'm a Slave?-Chapter 302: Mother of Demons [1]
Lilith descended from the burning building with impossible grace.
Her bare feet touched the bloodstained stone without sound, white hair settling around her shoulders like silk, her tail swishing with barely contained excitement.
Those crimson eyes swept across the assembled crowd with childlike delight.
"Mmm~" She clasped her hands together, tilting her head. "How wonderful!"
[THREAT ASSESSMENT: CATASTROPHIC]
[RECOMMENDED ACTION: IMMEDIATE EVACUATION]
Alaric's eyes narrowed, as he stared at the system notification.
Beside him, Nyra's posture shifted. The perfect maid facade dropped completely, replaced by something predatory. Shadows coalesced around her hands, darker than natural darkness, seeming to devour the firelight rather than block it.
"Young master," she said quietly. "When I engage, you run. Find the others. Coordinate evacuation."
"Like hell—"
"This is not a discussion." Her voice carried absolute authority. "You cannot fight her. I might be able to delay her. That's the best we can hope for."
Elina moved up beside them. "What is that thing?"
Professor Grimwald and the other surviving faculty formed a loose defensive line.
Around them, the remaining students who hadn't made it to the central hall were scattered, some hiding behind debris, others too injured to move, a few still fighting corrupted creatures at the edges of the courtyard.
And behind Lilith, more figures emerged from the smoke and shadow.
Demons.
Alaric counted at least eight, each radiating power that made his enhanced senses scream warnings. They spread out in a loose formation, cutting off escape routes with practiced coordination.
Lilith giggled, the sound making everyone's skin crawl. "Shall we begin? I've been so patient, waiting for the perfect moment!" She looked directly at Alaric.
And moved, her small hand extended toward his chest with clawed fingers that seemed to distort reality around them.
But before she could truly reach him...
CLANG!
Nyra intercepted, catching Lilith's wrist mid-strike, holding firm against strength that shouldn't exist in something so small.
BOOM!
The collision released a shockwave that cratered the stone beneath them and blew out windows in nearby buildings.
For a heartbeat, they stood frozen.
"Hello again~" Lilith purred. "Still pretending to be human? How adorable."
"Still pretending to be sane?" Nyra replied, her tone flat.
Lilith laughed and the pressure in the area intensified. The air became thick, oppressive, making it hard to breathe.
Then they exploded into motion.
CRACK-BOOM-CRACK-BOOM-CRACK!
Too fast to follow for normal eye.
Nyra's shadows formed blades, shields. Lilith moved through them like water, her tail whipping with enough force to shatter stone, her claws leaving trails of distortion in the air that took seconds to heal.
They tore across the courtyard in a blur of shadow and demonic essence, each impact releasing devastating force that sent debris flying.
"Alaric, move!" Elina grabbed his arm.
But he couldn't. His enhanced perception let him track the fight—barely—and what he saw made his blood run cold.
Nyra was losing.
Every exchange cost her. Every block left her slightly slower. Every deflection pushed her back inches. Lilith was toying with her, testing her limits, learning her patterns.
"ATTACK!"
Lilith's voice rang out, at her demons.
And they moved as one.
SLASH!
One caught a younger faculty member, tearing through his defensive barrier and opening his throat. He collapsed, choking, dying.
"Blazing Fury!" Elina launched herself at the nearest demon, fist connecting with its chest.
The demon staggered backward, surprised by her strength, but didn't fall. It recovered, grinned with too many teeth, and returned her strike with interest.
SLASH!
Claws raked across her side. Elina gasped, blood spraying, stumbling.
Alaric moved, materialized beside the demon, both hands wreathed in fire and lightning.
BOOM-CRACK-WHOOSH!
The demon shrieked, its form destabilizing under the combined assault, essence channels rupturing.
SLASH!
A second demon blindsided Alaric from the left, its claws carving through his hastily raised defense and opening a gash across his shoulder.
[DEFENSIVE INTEGRITY: 75% → 68%]
Pain exploded through him. These weren't corrupted creatures. These were demons, and their claws carried essence that disrupted healing, that prevented regeneration.
He rolled with the impact, came up firing.
[Lightning Bolt!]
The demon dodged with casual ease, its form blurring, but
CRASH!
Professor Grimwald's stone fist hammered into it from behind, crushing it against a wall. It shrieked, then its tail whipped around and impaled Grimwald through the stomach.
The elderly professor's eyes went wide. Blood bubbled from his lips.
Alaric started to move forward, but...
BOOM!
Nyra and Lilith's fight crashed through the area, their collision forcing everyone to scatter or be caught in the devastation.
Nyra's wings spreading from her back, each one tipped with blades that carved through stone and flesh with equal ease. Her maid uniform was shredded.
But Lilith was laughing.
Her small form danced between Nyra's attacks with balletic grace.
"Is this really your full power?" Lilith asked, genuine disappointment in her voice. "I thought you'd be more—"
Nyra's shadow extended, formed a cage around Lilith, and contracted with crushing force.
BOOM!
The explosion of compressed shadow and demonic essence was blinding. Everyone in the courtyard was thrown backward by the shockwave.
Alaric hit the ground rolling, his enhanced agility letting him recover quickly. He came up to one knee, scanning.
The shadow cage was empty.
Lilith stood twenty meters away, completely unharmed, brushing dust from her dress with casual indifference.
"Better," she said. "But still not enough."
She raised one small hand.
And, the sky darkened.
Not with smoke or clouds. With essence. Pure, concentrated, demonic essence that spread across the heavens like ink in water, blotting out what little sunlight remained.
"I think," Lilith said softly, her childish voice carrying across the courtyard with impossible clarity, "it's time to stop playing."
She clenched her fist.
Then...
Darkness descended.
Not as an attack. As a presence. Physical weight pressing down on everything, crushing, suffocating, making essence itself feel sluggish and resistant.
Students collapsed under the pressure. Faculty members dropped to their knees, gasping. Even the demons paused, recognizing their Mother's power.
Alaric felt his bones creak. His essence channels strained. His enhanced body was the only thing keeping him conscious, but even that was failing.
[DEFENSIVE INTEGRITY: 68% → 55%]
Nyra alone remained standing, her shadows expanding outward in a desperate attempt to shield others from the worst of it. But even she was struggling, her form beginning to destabilize under the crushing weight of Lilith's presence.
The darkness pressed down like a physical thing, suffocating, absolute, making every breath a labor, every heartbeat an act of defiance against oblivion.
Elina was flat on the ground. Blood dripped from her nose, her ears. The pressure was crushing her from the inside out.
Professor Grimwald, still impaled by the demon's tail, somehow still clinging to consciousness, tried one last time to raise an earth construct. His hands moved weakly, trembling with effort.
The construct formed for half a second.
Then crumbled to dust.
And his hands fell limply to his sides.
