Chapter 282: Breaking the seal.

The yin-yang symbol appeared in Lee’s mind. He got this strange feeling he could rip it apart with a wave of his hand, almost as if it was a cloud of smoke, except not as fragile. But the moment he intended to do it, he froze.

There was something within the seal he felt he couldn’t destroy. At first he thought it was the subconscious fear of not keeping his memories after being reborn, the fear of losing his identity. But that couldn’t be it. He knew he was safer without a seal, and the common sense dictated it had to go. Even the life and death particles were destroying it on their own, as if it was an unnatural barrier obstructing the flow of elemental streams.

Lee kept focusing on the symbol and sensed his consciousness slowly invading it, threatening to destroy its fragile construct. But then he realized there was something on the other side, some kind space, or maybe a place. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

It wasn’t dark, but covered in white mist, and it wasn’t that big – at least it seemed so. And it was steadily becoming smaller. Lee noticed the golden and silvery particles taking it apart bit by bit, but while it felt right, witnessing the process made him anxious.

Lee stared at the thick mist, feeling lost, but then realized something moved inside of it. There was someone, a person, crouching, holding their head in their hands. It clearly wasn’t the reflection of him, or some kind of astral body of his. The person had longer hair, beautiful hands ... it was a woman! A terrified woman, crouching in the small space that was about to fall apart!

’Oh, no!’ Lee felt his hair stand on end, recognizing her. The next moment she looked right back at him, with her eyes wide with horror, and then he was forcefully thrown out of the vision as he jumped to his feet in shock.

"Lisa!" Lee said out loud, almost shouting.

It was the thought of her that made him regain consciousness after the spark fusion, and now he knew why. Somehow, all this time, Lisa had always been present. He thought it was his memories of lost love or some kind of similar romantic nonsense, but she was there!

But there was a problem. No matter what was the place, it was clearly crumbling, about to destroy her alongside of it. And there was only one explanation that made sense.

"Overlord Seris! I know you can hear me!" Lee said out loud, "There’s a problem!"

He didn’t have much hope she would reply, but he had no idea what else he could do. He said, "I think Lisa is locked in the Trexian’s seal. I was in the process of erasing it when I realized it, and now the space she’s in is about to collapse ..."

There was a brief period of silence, and Lee could only hear the steady noise of insects out in the trees. Most of the villagers were asleep, and the only people still awake were Jules and his drunken colleagues.

’Who’s Lisa?’ After a while Lee heard an annoyed voice next to him to him, almost as if someone was speaking right inside his mind.

"Someone more important to me than myself." Lee seriously said, "She died alongside of me, and I think the seal somehow affected her as well."

That was the only explanation he could come up with that made some sense, although it didn’t matter how or why she was there. She was there!

’Then why did you try to destroy the seal?’ Lee heard Seris say.

"Seriously?" Lee felt like punching the old madam, "Could you please make fun of me afterwards?"

There was a longer period of silence and Lee already thought he managed to piss her off, when Seris said, ’The seal isn’t on your palm, it’s in in your consciousness, placed on your soul. What you see on your physical body is only a representation. You’re erasing it in your consciousness first. Along with her.’

"Logical, but not helpful!" Lee said, trying to suppress anxiousness.

’I’ve no clue what Trexian has created, but if your ... Lisa is there, you need to let her soul out to reincarnate, otherwise ...’ Seris abruptly stopped, and Lee could only stare in the night, helplessly waiting for an advice that didn’t come.

Clearly it was as she said – she had no clue what he was supposed to do to save her. Release her soul to reincarnate? What the hell did that even mean?

Lee obviously knew he was reincarnating after dying, but no one had a clue how exactly the process worked. The concept of life and death was something on the level of the concept of time – a Heavenly law that was out of control of humans.

’Go to the new barn. Joel and Marie had just fallen asleep. Maybe if you break the seal there there’s a chance ...’

Lee was caught off guard by Seris speaking to him again, but he immediately guessed her idea. Joel and Marie were the village’s sweethearts, a couple a bit younger than him. Clearly the two just had their intimate session and Seris suggested they could become Lisa’s new parents if by a stroke of luck Lee was successful.

’Poor old witch!’ On the way Lee had a sudden realization, ’She has to listen to people doing it around the world! And all the time! And not only people! Daaaamn ... Qin Yujian has no clue what burden is she trying to create for herself following the Seris’s path ... or maybe she likes it ...’

Lee stopped at the barn’s door, for a moment trying to understand what exactly he was supposed to do. He could sense a couple of people there, peacefully asleep, and he felt like a perverted creep sneaking up on them.

But there was no way around it. He silently tiptoed towards the young lovers lying in each others embrace in the heap of hay. They looked happy and peaceful, and an evil thought crossed Lee’s mind: their careless days would soon be over – if he succeeded. He didn’t care, though.

He squatted next to them, focusing on his right palm again. This time he was able to sense Lisa’s presence right away. Surprisingly, she looked at him the moment he noticed her, but seeing the pain in her eyes, Lee forced himself to focus on the task at hand.

He intensified the flow of elemental particles, pressing at the yin-yang image, but at the same put his hand on Marie’s flat abdomen. There was no technique or skill he could use – he could only pray.

’Wait!’ Lee got a sudden idea, ’I had the life spark, so if I use the life particles ...’

He dug in his consciousness, focusing on all the golden elemental particles within, trying to guide them towards his palm. Strangely enough, for some reason the silvery particles became more active as well, and few moments later Lee sensed something breaking inside of him. It came as a soft crack in his mind, but his physical body stiffened from the excruciating pain he felt.

Lee had been hurt before, and had been through myriad of self-inflicted tortures after swallowing sparks. But he had never felt pain like this in his lives. Sensing he was about to loose consciousness, with the last bits of strength he had, he sent all the golden elemental particles he could into Marie’s abdomen ... and passed out.
