Awakening with two legendary Summons-Chapter 14: Summoners Master Fex Training
Chapter 14 - Summoners Master Fex Training
The two large summons stood proudly in the midst of the training room, their imposing forms radiating power as they towered before their summoners, Kairos and Kaela.
Kairos's summon, a mighty shadow wolf, stood with its pitch-black fur rippling like living darkness. Its eyes gleamed with an eerie glow, analyzing everything in the room with silent menace. In contrast, Kaela's summon was a massive serpent, its long, sinuous body coiling and uncoiling in fluid, mesmerizing motions. Each movement displayed the sheer length of its form, revealing the power lurking within its sleek scales.
Sergeant Fex strode forward, his eyes methodically scanning the two summons with a trained, critical gaze. As he observed, he spoke in a deliberate, measured tone, ensuring every word he uttered carried weight.
"There are countless types of summons, varying as wildly as the summoners themselves. Some say they can't be classified, but that isn't true. There is always a system."
He began to pace as he listed them off, gesturing subtly with his hands.
"There are elemental summons—fire, water, earth, air. Then there are functional categories: stealth, tank, support, information gathering. Some are designed for resource acquisition, foraging, hunting, crafting, or shelter construction. The key to mastery is understanding what you've summoned and how to wield it."
Pausing, he turned to Kaela, his sharp gaze locking onto her.
"Your summon is a stealth type," he declared. "It moves with fluidity, its form designed to blend into shadows, to strike without being seen."
Kaela gave a small nod, acknowledging the assessment but remaining characteristically silent.
Then Fex turned his attention to Kairos's shadow wolf, studying it for several moments. The creature's ability to merge with darkness suggested stealth, but its powerful physique and predatory nature told a different story.
"This one, though... It's built for hunting," Fex concluded, clicking his tongue. "It may use the shadows, but it is a predator at heart, meant to track and eliminate its prey."
Kairos processed the information, taking in the old man's words. He already knew his summon was strong, but understanding its classification helped solidify the knowledge of how to wield it properly.
Fex's gaze sharpened as he crossed his arms.
"How long can you both hold your summons in this dimension with your mana?"
At that, Kairos stiffened. His mind went blank for a moment as he realized he had never tested that. Ever since awakening his abilities, he had been too preoccupied with battles and survival. He had no idea how long he could sustain his summon.
He shook his head.
Kaela, who had been silent, also hesitated before subtly shaking her head as well.
Fex sighed, almost as if he had expected their ignorance. "Good thing I started my watch's timer when you both summoned them." He raised a finger and pointed between them. "It's important to know your limit. That's why you're still at grade one. Your summons don't need to get stronger—you do."

Kairos repeated the words in his mind, letting them settle. It made perfect sense. A powerful summon was meaningless if the summoner was too weak to maintain it. There was no use in mastering summoning arts if one couldn't survive in a brutal, unforgiving world.
'I see now,' he thought. 'The military isn't just training us—they're weeding us out. Separating the strong from the weak, the smart from the foolish, the survivalists from the reckless. It's all a—'
A sudden, sharp pain erupted across his skull.
"Ow!" Kairos groaned, clutching his head as he recoiled from the unexpected blow.
Fex had slammed a fist onto his head with no hesitation, his expression a mix of exasperation and amusement.
"Where the hell is your mind always wandering off to, boy?" the sergeant growled. "This isn't some casual lecture. In a real battle, your head would already be rolling across the floor." He patted Kairos roughly on the shoulder. "First lesson of survival: never overthink in the moment. You do that after you make it out alive."
A sudden sound cut through the room—a soft, stifled giggle.
Kairos and Fex turned sharply, stunned by the unexpected noise.
Kaela, the quiet, withdrawn girl, had her right hand over her mouth, a faint but unmistakable laugh escaping her lips. It was almost surreal, as if seeing a statue come to life.
Fex raised a brow, clearly amused. "That's a really nice voice you have, kid."
Instantly, Kaela froze. It was as if he had flipped a switch—her entire demeanor shut down in an instant, and she fell back into eerie silence.
Kairos narrowed his eyes slightly. 'She's shy? In a world like this?' He found himself intrigued. What kind of life had she lived to become like this?
Fex, too, had his thoughts. He had watched Kaela's entry battle into the academy. It had been... strange. Something unlike anything most had seen. The power of a Mythic summon. A force so overwhelming that it still left whispers in the halls.
The sergeant exhaled and continued his explanation while the two struggled to maintain their summons.
"The environment class and the summoner's battle class are closely linked. One teaches you how to fight using your summons, the other teaches you how to survive using them."
He paused, noticing Kairos's expression shift. He seemed slightly taken aback, as if something had just clicked in his head.
"You could have taken this as a substitute class," Fex added, watching him closely. "Other students will."
Kairos's mind raced. He hadn't known that. If he had, he might have taken the battle class and used the environment class as a secondary focus. Or was he already feeling the strain of holding his summon?
His body was beginning to shake, sweat dripping down his face.
Six minutes in.
Kaela, in contrast, was steady, showing no signs of fatigue. Her summon remained effortlessly in place, exuding an aura of control.
Nine minutes. Kairos finally collapsed to one knee, panting as he felt his mana reserves give out. His summon flickered and vanished, dissolving into the shadows from which it came.
Kaela lasted longer—fifteen minutes—before she finally, without strain, released her summon voluntarily.
Fex clapped his hands together. "Alright. Let's end the first class here." He walked back to his chair, slumping into it with a sigh. "You've had your first test. Now you know your limits."
Kairos exhaled, straightening himself. As he turned to leave, he glanced at Kaela and gave her a casual wave.
"See you later, shy girl."
Kaela didn't respond, but for a fleeting moment, her lips curled ever so slightly.
Kairos left the room, his mind drifting to his roommates. How had they fared in their classes? He had no way of knowing.
But for some reason, he found himself hoping they had done well.
