Chapter 93: Summoners festival event

[Mass release 2/5]

The academy grounds and the entire military base were bustling with activity. Excitement filled the air as vibrant decorations and beautiful ornaments were strung across every visible corner. Streamers danced in the wind, and paper lanterns swayed gently beneath the eaves of buildings. Every pathway sparkled with festive lights, making the once militaristic setting resemble a lively festival event center rather than a place of combat training.

All in all, the academy had taken on a new appearance—one that almost made it unrecognizable. The presence of so many decorations made it easy to forget that this was still a military base. The cold, stern walls were now hidden behind layers of color and celebration.

Students had been granted free time to prepare for the festival. Many eagerly roamed the temporary stalls that had sprung up across the compound. Travelers and merchants had arrived in droves, hoping to earn good coin from the event, and the variety of items available was vast—food, accessories, trinkets, and of course, clothing.

The girls, especially, were in high spirits. New boutiques offered outfits of all kinds, from traditional festival wear to modern, revealing styles. Choices were plenty, and excitement buzzed among them.

Among the students, a group of four girls stood out as they entered one of the largest boutiques. The store brimmed with stylish outfits, predominantly designed for women, each piece carefully displayed to tempt buyers. At the front of the group, as usual, was Rayla.

"Welcome, girls, to the best fashion store in all of Titanfang," she declared dramatically, a gasp in her voice as she tilted her head and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear with practiced grace.

Lina took a long look around, her sharp gaze scanning the various fabrics and textures on display. Now she understood why Rayla had insisted they come here.

She leaned toward Kaela, whose face remained hidden beneath the long curtain of hair that always shielded her features.

"What do you think about the clothes?" Lina asked softly.

Kaela shrugged, her tone as neutral as ever.

"It’s nice."

Rayla grinned and reached for Mia, the quiet second survivor of the Abyssal Ranked beast attack.

"Let’s go try some outfits out."

The four girls approached the woman behind the counter, picked out several outfits, and made their way into the large dressing room. It was spacious enough for all of them to change at once, which they did, chatting and laughing while slipping into their chosen garments.

Rayla chose a bold, striking gown. It clung tightly to her figure, exposing a daring amount of cleavage and a portion of her thighs, while still cascading elegantly down to her feet. She completed her look with an ash faux fur scarf that blended seamlessly with the silver tones of her dress. Standing before the mirror, she admired herself with pride.

"This is perfect. This is sure to get plenty of attention," she said, adjusting her chest in the gown to show off more of her curves. The boys will be all over me, she thought with a smirk.

Meanwhile, Kaela had chosen something more refined—an Asymmetrical Elegant Dress with a halter neckline, a delicate choker, a symmetrical ribbon around the waist, and a high-low hem that flowed into a soft, elegant tail. The fabric shimmered faintly with starlit patterns. The name of the dress was fitting: Radiant Eclipse.

Despite being more modest than Rayla’s choice, some might argue Kaela looked far more breathtaking in hers.

Lina, noticing Kaela’s quiet transformation, abandoned the two dresses she had been holding indecisively. She walked up to her friend and gently separated the curtain of hair that covered her face. Gathering a section, she tied it into a small ponytail, revealing Kaela’s full features for the first time in a long while.

"Now you look prettier," Lina said with a wink before turning away.

Kaela stood frozen. The exposure made her skin prickle, as though a thousand eyes were piercing through her. She hated being seen. Her face felt like a target under the attention, and she immediately longed to hide again.

Even Rayla, who often considered herself the most attractive, felt overshadowed for a fleeting second—until she looked at her own chest again, which reassured her confidence.

"Wow, you’re so cute! Why do you even hide your face? Are you scared of the boys that will approach you?" Mia asked, clearly intrigued by Kaela’s behavior.

Kaela simply shook her head, remaining silent.

Now that Mia had brought it up, the question lingered—why did Kaela always keep her face hidden?

Even Lina, who knew parts of Kaela’s past—like her inability to wield Core weapons and the cruelty her mother had inflicted on her—couldn’t answer that. Was Kaela hiding something more? A deeper truth? Or perhaps an identity she didn’t want recognized?

Could it be that someone close was still searching for her?

Meanwhile, while the girls bathed in the glow of beauty and light, the boys carved their strength in sweat and discipline.

Kairos and his group were deep in one of the Academy’s training centers, engaging in intense martial sparring.

The three fought in a close, fast-paced session, pitting skill against skill. Darnell stood out as the most unpredictable with his flexible style. Kairos had the highest variety of moves, his arsenal of techniques being his main advantage. Carlos, however, excelled in speed and raw combat intuition.

It was clear none of them were going all out—they held back, measuring each other in silence. Eventually, the match ended with Kairos collapsing to the ground, breathing heavily.

Man, these guys have more integration time than I do, he thought, wiping sweat from his brow as his chest rose and fell with exhaustion.

Darnell dropped beside him.

"Dude, you’re improving at an insane rate. You lasted almost an hour with your integration. That’s crazy progress since the day you started." fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm

Carlos nodded.

"Is it because you’re talented... or have you just been through too many life-or-death situations lately?"

Kairos didn’t know. But deep down, he was proud. Despite everything, he had continued to grow stronger. No bottlenecks. No stagnation. Just progress.

Then the thought of the festival crossed his mind.

"Hey uh... are you guys going to register for any of the contests?"

Carlos shook his head with a casual glance.

Darnell’s expression dimmed slightly.

"No... I just wanna take a break. Relax for once."

Kairos nodded. Truthfully, he had been hoping for that answer. He didn’t feel like participating either.

"I’m not going either. We’ll just watch together."

Unbeknownst to Kairos, both Carlos and Darnell were lying.

They didn’t plan to sit out the festival at all. When the program began, that was when they would set their plan in motion.

And Carlos... Carlos had already decided that Darnell would be the one to take the fall when the mission was completed and this would surely lead to him being killed.
