Chapter 92 - making up

They definitely planned the park—like the amusement park, right? Well, how the fuck did they get to the garden park?

Well, let’s rewind back... After Katherine had planned everything, cooked and packed for the day, they took a cab to the amusement park that she thought the kids wanted to go to, but it was closed due to a technical issue.

"Kids," she turned to her kids, looking at them apologetically about their get-together today. "We’ll have to go back home now."

While Jasmine grinned, "Mommy, we mean the garden park, not this place," Jasmine giggled and Katherine sighed.

"Oh," she mumbled. Taking the kids’ hands, she took another cab to the garden park.

The great park always had a romantic air in it as couples held each other smiling, families playing, kids riding their bicycles. She smiled, liking the new scenery.

It was a good place for a fresh breath.

Katherine found a nice place that hadn’t been taken by another family. Under a big shaded tree against the scorching sun, she laid the picnic mat on the grass in front of the beautiful lake.

"This is beautiful," Jasmine said, dancing around like a swan, and Katherine nodded. It was definitely beautiful and peaceful. Then Jasmine came back and grabbed her brother’s hand.

"Be careful," Katherine cautioned the running kids as she opened the bag and placed the goodies she had packed at home on the mat.

As she stared at the kids, she noticed a different shade covering her face and she glanced up and her eyes widened immediately from the person in front of her.

Her heart thumped, her breathing heavy as she looked at his face. God of mercy! She missed him. She missed him so much that it hurt to breathe.

Aaron was in front of her, holding an umbrella that he used to cover her as he smiled at her. Aaron was in a casual sweatshirt and sweatpants; he looked so relaxed, but the dark circles under his eyes gave him away.

Katherine felt her throat parched from dryness, as her throat bobbed, blinking and blinking trying to take him in—maybe it was her brain conjuring the image of Aaron here.

"Hi," Aaron raised his other hand and waved with a small smile.

Katherine swallowed the lump in her throat. "Hi," she squeaked out, and she wanted to smack herself for sounding like a frog right now. She cleared her throat, harshly tearing her gaze away from him. "What are you doing here?" she asked, trying to mask her shock and embarrassment.

"Daddy," the twins called, their faces brightened as they ran to Aaron. "How are you, kiddo?" he asked, and the kids grinned.

"You came," Hanith said in a small voice, his eyes looking innocent.

"I said I would," he responded, and Katherine looked at the kids, then Aaron, and knew she was in the dark. These little creatures had planned this meet-up.

Jasmine turned to her, "We asked him to come."

Katherine breathed in, stood up to leave, but Aaron stepped forward and grabbed her wrist, which shot a jolt of spark through her body.

She missed this. She missed his touch. God, and she inhaled sharply, his manly sandalwood cologne assaulting her nostrils.

"Please, just ten minutes," he said quickly. "Just give me a moment to explain everything. Please, Katherine."

Katherine wanted to move away, but when she saw the pleading look on her kids’ faces, she sighed, her shoulders slumped in defeat as she turned to Aaron without looking at him. Looking at him would make her undone.

Jasmine smiled then pulled Hanith’s hand again. "Let’s go, let the adults have the talking," she mumbled, taking her kids away.

Katherine begrudgingly sat back on the mat, her back rested against the tree, waiting for Aaron to say anything because she was getting nervous already.

The silence stretched between them as Katherine made her gaze stare at the lake in thought.

Aaron sighed, clenching his hands on his lap. It was somehow hard with Katherine not giving him a chance from her dismissal.

"I should’ve told you everything from the start, Katherine," he started, wanting to take her hands that rested on the mat in his and caress them gently. He wanted to feel the touch again. "Amanda and I had a contract marriage—we signed the document for five years. We got married because her father’s ultimatum and I agreed because I needed her father’s investment then." He explained. And he wanted to hit himself; the explanation didn’t come out well like he had planned. He’d even made Raymond role-play as Katherine and said everything he wanted, but now in Katherine’s presence, it was like all his brain had been formatted.

He was talking without thinking, something he doesn’t do. He thinks, then thinks and talks or keeps silent.

Aaron changed his sitting position to face Katherine, making the timber of his voice low and coming out honestly as what he was thinking. "We never... I swear on my life, Katherine. I never touched her or had any intimate moment with her."

Even during their wedding, he didn’t kiss her, just smiled at the camera, and that sparked speculation on the Internet, but he had it under wraps. The only time he touched Amanda was when they had public pictures to uphold, and that was him placing his hand at her lower back.

That was all. Aside from that, he never did something out of the box.

Katherine finally turned and stared at him, stunned by the revelation, gripping her cloth tightly as her heart fluttered. She had thrown tantrums without listening, but she still didn’t want to believe yet, even though her heart knew the truth. "But... the pregnancy?" she blurted out. She wanted to hear him say it to her.

Maybe if she heard it from him, it’ll ease the knot in her heart.

"It’s a lie. She wanted to trap me. She even drugged me that day you—"

"What?" Katherine’s eyes shone. "What did you mean she drugged you?"

"It doesn’t matter," Aaron muttered, and Katherine glared at him hard.

"It doesn’t matter? You are keeping secrets again," Katherine accused, and Aaron gulped.

"I’m sorry. It came that day. I didn’t know how she knew the house, then she said she wanted a truce and drugged me with an aphrodisiac, but I was able to send her out before anything could happen."

Katherine felt anger brim in her veins. She was angry so much that she could feel a metallic taste in her mouth from biting her inner cheek so hard. How dare that bitch try to crawl on her man. Her Aaron.

"That’s a track aside," Aaron muttered. "I’m sorry," he apologized again.

"Why didn’t you say anything when we saw each other?" Her voice broke, her body shaking in tears.

"I didn’t want to lose that second chance, but hiding the truth made me lose it anyway."

Tears spilled down her cheeks. "I’m sorry also. I didn’t mean what I said that day. I thought I was protecting her child."

Aaron’s voice cracked. "There was no child. There was only ever you and our children together."
