Back To The 80s-Chapter 132: Education_1
Gu Xiaobei couldn’t care less, she wasn’t the kind of person who tried to please others while suffocating herself.
After waiting for more than half an hour, Xiangmin and Chi Xiaoyue finally came over slowly. Xiangmin was even pretending to support her waist with one hand and holding her stomach with the other.
Several military wives clearly showed dissatisfaction on their faces, but due to Guo Huaqiang’s position, they were angry but didn’t dare to speak out.
Gu Xiaobei looked on coldly, didn’t they walk rather fast at the market just now?
Chi Xiaoyue looked at everyone and apologized saying, "I hurried out just now and strained my stomach, feeling a bit uncomfortable. We rested a while on the roadside before coming over, sorry."
Xiangmin also followed up with a smile, "I’m really sorry for delaying your time."
Lu Zhanguo’s eyes slightly drooped. Such an obvious lie, he could see through it instantly, and pulled Gu Xiaobei into the car.
Chang Yuan waived his hand, "It’s okay. It’s a special time for our sister-in-law. Everybody can understand. Let’s all get in the car."
When they arrived at the family quarters, they saw Sun Aiqin holding a child and talking to Wang Ping in the yard, while Nini was playing on the side.
Upon seeing Gu Xiaobei, Sun Aiqin, who was holding the child, enthusiastically walked over and said, "Sister-in-law, you went to town again? What new goodies did you buy this time?"
"Didn’t buy much." Gu Xiaobei answered casually, then turned to Wang Ping and asked, "Why didn’t Nini go to school?" Even though Nini was only five years old, there was no kindergarten in the village primary school, so she had to attend first grade with the older children.
"She had a little fever this morning, so she didn’t go." Wang Ping answered with a smile.
Xiangmin, carrying her bag and holding her waist, slowly entered the family quarters. Seeing her, Sun Aiqin, who was holding the child, instantly walked up with a smile, "Sister-in-law, you’re pregnant and still going to town?"
"I went for a hospital check-up." Xiangmin also replied with a smile.
Gu Xiaobei didn’t feel like watching these two hypocritical women. She told Wang Ping, "If you have time, bring Nini to play at my house. We’re heading upstairs."
Wang Ping agreed with a smile. As Gu Xiaobei and Lu Zhanguo went upstairs, she sighed, "Where there are people, there’s bound to be conflict. And where there are women, there’s bound to be gossip."
Although Lu Zhanguo had no idea where Gu Xiaobei learned these quirky sayings, he agreed wholeheartedly. Recent events with these women had certainly opened his eyes.
At noon, Gu Xiaobei made some dumplings stuffed with pork and pickled cabbage. Thinking that Chen Gang would be having lunch here, she made extra dough. With Lu Zhanguo’s help, they were able to wrap them quickly.
Then Chen Gang brought back Jiujiu, whose eyes were red from crying. Gu Xiaobei, who was rolling out the dumpling wrappers, jumped up in surprise, "What happened?"
Jiujiu was pouting and her eyes were even redder, but she refused to speak. Chen Gang said helplessly, "Her classmate took her pencil and hit her."
Gu Xiaobei dropped the rolling pin in anger, "That brat! Did you hit him back?"
"No, I told the teacher." Jiujiu piped up in a small voice.
"What use is telling the teacher? You should have hit them back hard. Remember, we don’t bully others, but we also can’t let people bully us. Even if we can’t beat them physically, we can’t lose our spirit, understand?" Gu Xiaobei said furiously.
Lu Zhanguo, who was sitting at the table making dumplings, had a twitching eye; Gu Xiaobei’s method of teaching was truly unconventional. However, when their daughter became known in kindergarten for her spirit of chivalry and fighting prowess, with daily complaints from the teachers, he really started to worry.
"Chen Gang, Jiujiu, both of you remember, we don’t seek trouble, but we don’t fear it either. If someone provokes us, we must fight back resolutely." Gu Xiaobei instructed the two children seriously.
Chen Gang and Jiujiu nodded in acknowledgment. Gu Xiaobei then said, "Alright, you two wash your face and hands and get ready for dinner."
After Chen Gang and Jiujiu left, Lu Zhanguo spoke, "They are still young, their sense of right and wrong is not very clear. If you teach them this way, they may misconstrue your words."
While rolling the wrappers, Gu Xiaobei chuckled, "No problem, I understood these principles when I was five, and I didn’t turn out badly. Go heat up the water, we need to cook the dumplings."
Lu Zhanguo obediently got up to heat the water, having no way to refute Gu Xiaobei’s unconventional wisdom.
Children’s emotions come quickly and leave quickly. By the time dinner started, Jiujiu was already happily eating her dumplings.
After eating and helping Chen Gang with his homework, Gu Xiaobei reemphasized, making sure he won’t be bullied again and that if someone punches him, he must kick them back.
Listening on the side, Lu Zhanguo had a headache. It was lucky they were good kids, otherwise, she would have taught them to be little bullies.
Early Sunday morning, Lu Zhanguo drove Gu Xiaobei to T City to catch a train. Gu Xiaobei asked Jiujiu to play at Li Fengmei’s place, and if it got too late to stay over at Li Fengmei’s.
Jiujiu obediently agreed, though reluctant for Gu Xiaobei to leave for a few days.
On the way, Gu Xiaobei discussed with Lu Zhanguo, "Let’s go to see Qin Li for lunch first."
"Alright, after lunch, you can spend some time with Qin Li, while I go find Shen Heng."
"Okay, we’ll wait for you at the department store." Gu Xiaobei was thinking that the sweater should be ready by now, wondering if Qin Li had picked it up.
As it happened, Qin Li was resting at home. When she received a call from the security office saying that Gu Xiaobei was looking for her, she hurriedly put on her shoes and ran out.
Watching her daughter rush out, Zhang Yufen sighed to Qin’s father, "Why aren’t any of our daughters girlish?"
Qin’s father chuckled, "I think it’s pretty good the way it is."
At the gate, upon seeing Gu Xiaobei, Qin Li exclaimed with joy, "Your timing’s perfect, I was bored to death at home."
"Then let’s go, let’s go eat together." Gu Xiaobei knew this lass would come over as soon as she called.
The three went to Uncle Wang’s noodle restaurant, but found it closed. They asked a neighbor and found out that Uncle Wang’s nephew was getting married, and they had both gone back to their hometown.
"Let’s go eat stew in a sand pot." Qin Li suggested.
"Okay." Gu Xiaobei and Qin Li had tried it once before and it was indeed very good.
"Sister Xiaobei, what did you buy this time you came to the city?" Qin Li assumed Gu Xiaobei had come for a shopping spree again.
"I’m taking a train to the province capital tonight." Gu Xiaobei said cheerfully.
"Going to the province? You’re going alone? Why didn’t you tell me? I want to go too." Qin Li complained.
"Next time. You need to focus on your work." Gu Xiaobei shook her head, thinking this little cop was too irresponsible.
Rolling her eyes, Qin Li said resignedly, "What are you going to the province for anyways?"
"To negotiate a big business deal. When I make a profit, I’ll let you in on it." Gu Xiaobei joked.
"Deal, I don’t want to be a beat cop anymore. From now on, I’ll rely on you to lead me out of this hard life." Qin Li said quite seriously.
After having the stew, Lu Zhanguo went off to find Shen Heng. As soon as Lu Zhanguo was out of sight, Qin Li beamed and impatiently shared, "Jin Cheng’s marriage fell through."
"Huh, weren’t they about to be wed? Why did it fall through all of a sudden?" Gu Xiaobei was quite curious.
"From what I heard from my mom, someone told the bride that Jin Cheng was destined for a bloody misfortune and that Jin’s mother wanted her to marry him to ward off the bad luck. When the bride heard this, how could she be willing? Her family went over and caused a commotion. Jin’s mother was so angry she fell ill." Qin Li gossiped.
