Chapter 14: Chapter 14: Shen Heng_1

The two of them bought a pile of meat and vegetables and headed toward the place where they were waiting for the bus. When passing by the Xinhua Bookstore, Gu Xiaobei glanced inside. Surprisingly, he saw a familiar figure — Wang Chuanjiang. Why would the man that the original host loved be here?

Gu Xiaobei didn’t make much of it; after all, he didn’t like this kind of man. He cheerfully followed Lu Zhanguo back home, and even said to Lu Zhanguo, as if it were a joke, "You guess who I just saw? Wang Chuanjiang."

"Who is Wang Chuanjiang?" Lu Zhanguo looked at Gu Xiaobei’s gossiping face, and couldn’t help laughing.

"Oh, he’s the guy I thought I used to have a crush on." Gu Xiaobei said nonchalantly, after all, it was the original host who liked him, not himself.

Lu Zhanguo took a deep look at Gu Xiaobei, feeling a bit sour in his heart. However, he found it strange that a big city guy like Chuanjiang would venture to such a remote place. Could it be for the woman beside him? But looking at this woman who was laughing carelessly, it didn’t seem to be the case.

When the two arrived at the bus stop, most of the people were already there, but Chi Xiaoyue hadn’t returned yet. It wasn’t until the bus arrived that Chi Xiaoyue rushed over with a big bag of things. It seemed she had bought quite a lot.

The next day, Lu Zhanguo told Gu Xiaobei that he would be bringing a friend for dinner, to which Gu Xiaobei gladly agreed.

Shen Heng arrived at noon, and Lu Zhanguo led him directly to his office and ordered two meals to be sent up.

After listening to Lu Zhanguo’s words, Shen Heng raised an eyebrow, "Are you saying that your sister-in-law is proficient in English? Can speak four languages?"

Lu Zhanguo frowned and nodded.

Shen Heng put down his chopsticks and said solemnly, "Tell me, what do you think?"

"Haven’t you already guessed what I think? I also hope it’s not the case. If it is, I won’t be holding back." Lu Zhanguo said seriously.

"At present, the other side is in the planning stage, but it’s obvious that the plan is related to you guys. Because it involves the army, we may need your cooperation" Shen Heng became serious as well.

"That’s not a problem, I’ll report to our superiors as soon as possible. But I hope to keep it a secret that Xiaobei can speak foreign languages." Lu Zhanguo knew that his selfish desire to protect Xiaobei was not right.

"That doesn’t seem to be your style. But for now, it’s not a problem to keep it a secret. If any problems are found later, it must be reported." Shen Heng said seriously.

"Don’t worry, for me, national interests are paramount."

Lu Zhanguo then seemed to remember something and said, "Help me investigate a man named Wang Chuanjiang. He is from H City."

"Is there a problem with this person?" Shen Heng asked.

"No, Gu Xiaobei said he was a man she used to like. But we saw him in town yesterday. I want to know why he is here." Lu Zhanguo still didn’t believe that Wang Chuanjiang had come for Gu Xiaobei.

"So, are you afraid of your sister-in-law rekindling old feelings? This is a personal matter. How do you plan to thank me?" Shen Heng joked.

"Come to my house for dinner tonight, it’s all you can eat." Lu Zhanguo responded lightheartedly.

When the two finished discussing official affairs and came out, it was already dark. When they arrived home, they saw four dishes on the table, with Gu Xiaobei sitting at the side waiting for them.

When Gu Xiaobei saw Shen Heng behind Lu Zhanguo, her eyes lit up instantly. Her little face was flushed, and she stood up in a hurry.

Oh my god, he looked exactly like Song Joongki, the idol from the drama she was obsessed with in her previous life. The only difference was the hairstyle. Shen Heng had a buzz cut.

Seeing a star-struck Gu Xiaobei staring at Shen Heng, Lu Zhanguo wasn’t pleased. He walked up to Gu Xiaobei and said in a deep voice, "Is dinner ready? Let’s eat first."

"Yes, yes." Gu Xiaobei nodded while still peeking at Shen Heng. This was her idol after all.

Lu Zhanguo frowned, reached out his large hand, twisted Xiaobei’s head towards the table and pressed it down, calling for Shen Heng to wash his hands for dinner.

Shen Heng was also dumbfounded. Gu Xiaobei’s gaze was too straightforward.

When both of them sat down, Gu Xiaobei’s face was still flushed. She often glanced at Shen Heng unconsciously. She was so excited that she was screaming inside: She was having dinner at the same table with her idol Song Joongki. This was so exciting.

Lu Zhanguo looked at Gu Xiaobei’s shy demeanour and introduced with a gloomy face, "This is Shen Heng. He’s from Capital City. Shen Heng, this is Xiaobei, your sister-in-law."

"Huh? You’re not surnamed Song?" Gu Xiaobei suddenly sobered up. She wanted to slap herself. She was so embarrassed. Facing Shen Heng with a stern face, she nodded, "Hello, let’s eat."

Both Lu Zhanguo and Shen Heng were taken aback. The speed at which her face changed was quite fast.

The four dishes that Gu Xiaobei cooked that night were made with care. They were dry stir-fried chili chicken cubes, sweet and sour fish, hot and sour shredded potatoes, and cabbages were cut into shreds and blanched and served cold.

All three seemed to have forgotten the awkwardness of just a moment ago. After Shen Heng tasted the dishes, he praised, "Sister-in-law, your cooking skills are comparable to those of a chef at a big restaurant."

Gu Xiaobei had lost the excitement of seeing her idol, and on closer examination, the differences were still quite significant. Shen Heng had a righteous look in his eyes, not like Song Joongki’s passionate gaze in the TV series. Plus, his skin was slightly darker. In response to Shen Heng’s praise, She did not feel embarrassed at all, "I think so too."

The atmosphere lightened with a joke. Lu Zhanguo and Shen Heng were enjoying their drinks while Gu Xiaobei ate her meal and refilled their cups with tea.

After having their fill of food and drink, Shen Heng got up to leave and go to the guest house. By the time Lu Zhanguo returned after seeing Shen Heng off, Gu Xiaobei had finished tidying up and was sitting on the bed in the house.

Taking advantage of his slight drunkenness, Lu Zhanguo pushed Gu Xiaobei onto the bed, leaned over and stared at Gu Xiaobei, "Do you like Shen Heng?"

"What?" Gu Xiaobei was confused, then realized that Lu Zhanguo was staring at her fiercely, with resentment and grievance in his eyes. Squinting her eyes and smiling, she hooked her arm around Lu Zhanguo’s neck and said, "Lu Zhanguo, are you jealous?"

Lu Zhanguo’s face started to turn red at Gu Xiaobei’s teasing, but luckily he was dark-skinned, so his blush was not noticeable. Without a word, he shut Gu Xiaobei up with a kiss.

After an intense kiss, Lu Zhanguo was not satisfied with just a kiss. His hand slipped into Gu Xiaobei’s waist and covered the softness of her chest.

Gu Xiaobei felt that Lu Zhanguo’s calloused hand was electrifying, making her whole body tingle wherever he touched. The feelings between them were mutual, and they had both restrained themselves in daily life. Now they had completely forgotten the existence of their child. The room was full of springtime warmth.

After what felt like an eternity to Gu Xiaobei, Lu Zhanguo finally let her go. After cleaning her up with warm water, he contentedly held Gu Xiaobei and fell asleep.

When Gu Xiaobei woke up the next day, it was almost noon. Although her waist was sore, and body ached, looking at the handprint on her body, she laughed foolishly under the covers. She had finally managed to get Lu Zhanguo into bed.
