Back To The 80s-Chapter 484 - 495: Going Alone_1
Upon hearing this, Gu Xiaobei visualized the scene in her mind and couldn’t help but laugh— it indeed sounded like a chaotic wedding.
Li Fengmei shook her head, saying, "I’m not sure how it ended up; it became too cold so Zhang Lijun and I left early."
Li Juan added, "Later on, the neighbors persuaded everyone to sit down, and then I left. I’m not sure if they continued to argue."
Li Fengmei smirked, "Who would’ve thought that Xiangmin’s plan to show off could turn out to be so embarrassing?"
Gu Xiaobei figured that after this incident, Xiangmin probably wouldn’t dare to visit them for a long time, as she would surely feel humiliated.
Li Fengmei and Li Juan chatted a little more before they left. Seeing that there was not much going on in the shop and considering that it was about to snow again, which meant fewer people would come to pick up goods, Gu Xiaobei decided to close the shop early and let everyone go home and rest, as they would be busy again the next day.
On such a snowy day, even the buses were running late, so Gu Xiaobei decided to walk home.
She reached home just in time for lunch. Kicking off the snow on her shoes, she said with a big smile, "It’s not about who comes home early, but who comes home at the right time, just in time for a meal."
As Xiaopang was eating his soup, he heard Gu Xiaobei speaking and quickly offered his bowl to her, "Mummy, eat."
Gu Xiaobei bent over and drank the soup from Xiaopang’s bowl. Smacking her lips, she said, "Xiaopang’s food is always delicious. Thank you, Xiaopang."
As Wen Xiuqing stood up to get a bowl, she said, "This little sweetheart of mine is very considerate, always making sure to save food for her mother."
Xiaopang looked at the soup left in his bowl then held it up again, saying, "Mummy, food, finish."
Gu Xiaobei couldn’t help but laugh, "Little sweetheart, are you asking mummy to finish your food for you? Alright, wait for mummy to wash her hands first." Then she walked towards the washbasin by the door.
Holding Doudou, Bai Xiaolan curiously asked, "Why did you come home so early today? Mum was worried that you might get stuck in the shop because of the snow."
"There was hardly anybody in the shop, so I thought I’d better come home before the weather gets really bad. Who knows how many days this snow will last." Gu Xiaobei dried her hands, then sat down next to Xiaopang.
Lu Songyuan shook his head, "The snow will be over by tomorrow. According to the weather forecast, the snow marker is almost at the tail of the weather chart, so there will be no more snow here."
Gu Xiaobei paused for a moment, picturing a weather chart that looked like a rooster in her mind, "If there’s no more snow, that’s good. If it keeps snowing for the next few days, it will be hard to do business."
Lu Songyuan added, "Interesting, isn’t it? From a business perspective, you would probably prefer clear skies in order to make more sales. But for ordinary rural people, they would rather see more snow, as it guarantees more moisture for the crops they will plant in the spring."
Gu Xiaobei laughed and nodded, "It’s just like how the umbrella seller hopes for rain and the fan seller hopes for hot weather, right? We always have to consider our own interests first."
Wen Xiuqing served Gu Xiaobei a bowl of soup noodles, "The meal has cooled down a bit. I reheated it but it clumped together. Just make do with it for now, we’ll make dumplings tonight."
Gu Xiaobei stood up, received the bowl, and said with a smile, "Thanks, Mom, I was so engrossed in our conversation that I forgot to eat."
Seeing that Little Mo Wang had finished his meal, Lu Songyuan asked, "Little Mo Wang, would you like to have more rice?"
Shaking his head, Little Mo Wang finished the last sip of his soup, walked around the house with his bowl, not knowing where to put it, and finally put it back on the table.
Wen Xiuqing laughed and said, "We don’t have a sink here; it always confuses Little Mo Wang."
Gu Xiaobei laughed and started eating, but before she could take a bite, Wen Xiuqing asked, "Xiaobei, when you get a chance, could you ask Aiguo whether or not he’s coming home for Chinese New Year? There are only a little over twenty days left. If he’s coming back, he should start preparing to leave."
"Sure," Gu Xiaobei agreed, bowing her head to eat, while wondering whether Lu Aiguo and Fang Jing had patched things up or not. They might even get a divorce if they both continue to be so stubborn.
Not long after lunch, light snow began to fall, increasing in intensity over time, with occasional flurries of heavy snow.
After the kids had their nap, Gu Xiaobei lay down next to Bai Xiaolan to chat and nap.
She was engaged in the conversation one moment and dozing off the next. She wasn’t sure whether it was the warmth of the room or exhaustion from the night before, but she ended up falling asleep to the sound of her own light snoring.
When she woke up, Bai Xiaolan looked at her with a teasing smile, "What happened? Were you so tired that you even snored in your sleep?"
Gu Xiaobei shot her a look, "You should remember that you’re a mother now. You can’t say unhealthy things in front of your child and the one in your belly."
Bai Xiaolan laughed slyly, "What did I say that’s unhealthy? What is on your mind?"
Gu Xiaobei suddenly felt like a playboy who had been played, she picked up Doudou who was practicing kicking his legs on the kang, "My nephew is so cute, but his mom is not cute at all."
As Bai Xiaolan lay on the kang laughing, she asked, "Do you think Lu Aiguo is hiding something from us?"
Gu Xiaobei was surprised. She had mentioned Lu Aiguo and Fang Jing’s divorce only to Lu Zhanguo, so she wondered how Bai Xiaolan knew about it, "Why do you ask?"
Bai Xiaolan laughed, "Lu Aiguo is a showoff. Whether he comes home for the new year or not, he would have told us by now. Look, he hasn’t contacted Xiangdong or Zhanguo yet, what does this tell you? This guy is definitely hiding something!"
Gu Xiaobei looked at Bai Xiaolan in admiration, "You do have a point. He might indeed be hiding something. I’ll ask him tomorrow."
Bai Xiaolan waved her off, "Don’t bother. He probably won’t tell you the truth. Better to ask Fang Jing directly."
Giving Bai Xiaolan a thumbs up, Gu Xiaobei agreed, "Good point."
"When you call Lu Aiguo tomorrow, ask him to bring some honey tributes from Daoxiang Village if he comes." Bai Xiaolan licked her lips greedily.
"Sure," Gu Xiaobei agreed, bending over to tickle Doudou, making him giggle loudly.
Bai Xiaolan moved closer, laying on the kang and watching Doudou, she asked, "Who do you think our son looks more like, me or Xiangdong?"
Gu Xiaobei laughed, "Everyone says he looks like you, right? He looks exactly like you, except for his nose—it’s just like Xiangdong’s, very prominent."
Bai Xiaolan touched her own nose, "My nose isn’t flat either. I wish my son looked more like Xiangdong; it would be more attractive."
"What are you talking about? If he looks like you, isn’t it attractive enough? Our Doudou is adorable. What’s not attractive about him?" Gu Xiaobei responded while playing with Doudou in her arms.
Just then, Wen Xiuqing entered the room with Xiaopang. Seeing his mother holding his brother, Xiaopang whined, "Mummy, hold Xiaopang, not brother. Hold Xiaopang." He tried to climb onto the kang.
Wen Xiuqing quickly helped him take off his shoes and carried him onto the kang. Xiaopang climbed over to Gu Xiaobei, hugged her arm, and said, "Mummy, hold Xiaopang, not brother."
