Back To The 80s-Chapter 608 - 601: Family_1
The next morning, just as Wen Xiuqing started making porridge, she prepared to go to the vegetable garden to pick a couple of aging cucumbers for a cold salad.
Just then, hearing a loud "bang" at the gate, Lu Aiguo rushed in hurriedly.
"Mom. Where are Fang Jing and Yueyue?" Lu Aiguo looked at Wen Xiuqing standing in the courtyard and hurriedly asked.
"In the new room on the west side." Wen Xiuqing replied somewhat dazedly, pointing to the western room. Since Bai Mingzhu had been busy preparing for her sister Cheng Qijia’s wedding and had moved into the apartment with Bai Xiaolan, Fang Jing and Yueyue had moved into her former room. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
Without another word, Lu Aiguo threw his luggage onto the kang* of the grapevine trellis and dashed towards the western house.
Fang Jing, who was braiding Yueyue’s hair by the kang, was taken aback by Lu Aiguo’s sudden entry. Before she had time to respond, he held her tightly in his arms.
"I’m sorry, I’m sorry..." Lu Aiguo hugged Fang Jing and Yueyue, and kept saying sorry.
When he heard about Fang Jing and Yueyue being mistreated, he wished he could rush to Capital City, and peel the culprits alive. Luckily, he was stopped by Luo Sen, who advised him not to let his impulsive actions result in him losing more, even ending up in jail.
Lu Aiguo forced himself to calm down, and with Luo Sen, they planned a sharp reprisal against Fang Jing’s older siblings.
Fang Jing stiffened and started crying out of grievance.
Seeing Lu Aiguo, Yueyue also cried and called out, "Daddy, daddy..."
Lu Aiguo’s eyes reddened, as he said incoherently, "Fang Jing, please forgive me, I have changed, really I have. Ask Luo Sen and Li Damao if I have touched mahjong in these three years? Forget about mahjong, no matter what, I’ve returned to the rental house by eight every night. Fang Jing, I have really changed. From now on, I will be a family man, no longer indulging in games. You can resent me, scold me, hit me, it’s all fine. We are family, always and forever."
Fang Jing felt aggrieved and lost, and couldn’t stop crying.
Yueyue’s small face was covered in tears as she looked at Fang Jing and asked, "Mommy, daddy said we are a family, does this mean you are not divorcing anymore?"
Wen Xiuqing stood outside the window, listening to the conversation inside while shedding tears incessantly.
Today was the Mid-Autumn Festival. Gu Xiaobei came over early in the morning with his two kids. Seeing Wen Xiuqing crying in the courtyard, and hearing the faint sobbing from the house, he looked at Bai Xiaolan, who was holding Tiantian under the grapevine trellis, for answers.
Bai Xiaolan whispered in response, "Aiguo is back."
Gu Xiaobei froze, then murmured, "Now things are all good. The family can finally have a peaceful Mid-Autumn reunion."
Bai Xiaolan nodded in agreement, "I hope Fang Jing can move past what’s troubling her heart soon."
During breakfast, nobody asked how Lu Aiguo came back, nor questioned Lu Aiguo and Fang Jing’s future plans; everyone quietly ate their meals.
Lu Aiguo enthusiastically peeled a boiled egg for Yueyue and served dishes for Fang Jing.
Fang Jing did not refuse, and quietly ate all the dishes Lu Aiguo served her.
Yueyue seemed to have a bigger appetite with her dad back, and ended up eating two eggs, half a bun, and a bowl of porridge. After finishing, she told Wen Xiuqing, "Grandma, I haven’t had such a delicious meal in a long time."
Those words almost brought tears to the eyes of all the adults present.
After meals, Gu Xiaobei began to clear the table and wash the dishes.
Wen Xiuqing looked at Fang Jing and said, "Fang Jing, can I talk to you?"
Fang Jing had an inkling of what Wen Xiuqing wanted to discuss and nodded, following Wen Xiuqing into the eastern room.
Lu Aiguo, a bit worried, hesitated before saying, "Mom, don’t force her."
Upon hearing Lu Aiguo’s words, Wen Xiuqing sighed inwardly. This child, sharp when he needed to be like a monkey, but could be as brainless as a stone when he wasn’t.
When they entered the eastern room, Wen Xiuqing took Fang Jing’s hand and sat down, saying, "Let me see your injury."
Fang Jing quickly responded, "Mom, it’s all healed now, it’s fine."
"Let me take a look. Bone damage takes a hundred days to heal. You’ve only been injured for a short while, don’t leave any aftereffects." Wen Xiuqing insisted.
Fang Jing felt helpless and took off one sleeve of her blouse to show Wen Xiuqing.
Wen Xiuqing saw a large bruise on Fang Jing’s shoulder blade and gently asked while caressing it, "This was recent, wasn’t it? Is this the arm that was broken?"
Fang Jing nodded faintly.
Hold back her tears, Wen Xiuqing took out a bottle of trauma medicine from the small cabinet under the TV stand, poured it into her palm and gently massaged it onto Fang Jing’s shoulder, saying softly, "If your mother were alive and saw you going through this, she would be so heartbroken."
The mention of her mother triggered Fang Jing’s tears again.
Wen Xiuqing paused, holding back her tears before she said, "Throughout history, the phrase has always been ’the child hurts, the mother feels the pain’. As parents, we would risk our lives to protect our children from harm and wish for them to live well. Think about it, can your mother rest in peace if she were to witness your current state from the beyond? Child, you mentioned you couldn’t get past a decision in your heart, do you think you’ve wronged your deceased mother? Have you thought about how tormented she would be if she knew about your current life from the afterlife? How could she reincarnate peacefully? It’s been over three years, you’ve been tormenting yourself for three years, and also your in-laws in the afterlife for three years. You’re not letting your elders rest even in death."
Fang Jing’s tears flowed even more fiercely. Wen Xiuqing wiped her eyes with the back of her hand, continued to rub the bruise, and said, "The same saying goes, as parents, we all have one wish: for our children to have a good life."
As Wen Xiuqing was speaking, she thought of her own daughter, Lu Ruixue, and her tears rolled uncontrollably down her cheeks. While sobbing, she said, "Forget everything else, just take Ruixue for example. Every time I think of her, my heart aches. I don’t know how she’s doing out there now. All these years, she seems to be holding a grudge against us. We haven’t received a single message from her. If I were to die, I wouldn’t be able to rest either."
Sobbing, Fang Jing shot upright. Just as Wen Xiuqing said, by living such a life, she was probably causing her mother unrest in the afterlife.
Without saying any more, Wen Xiuqing carefully rubbed the medication onto Fang Jing’s bruise.
Crouching under the window, Lu Aiguo listened to the conversation inside the room and discreetly wiped away his tears.
When Wen Xiuqing and Fang Jing came out of the room, Yueyue ran up to Fang Jing and said, "Mommy, I want to go to the park to see the monkeys too. Xiaopang said that the monkeys in the park can somersault and salute."
Fang Jing knew that it must either be Gu Xiaobei or Bai Xiaolan who had told Yueyue about this. After giving it some thought, she replied, "Tomorrow, today is the Mid-Autumn Festival and I need to help grandma prepare dinner."
Yueyue nodded her head, "Mommy, can we bring Xiaopang, Mo Wang, Doudou and Tiantian with us?"
Fang Jing responded, "Okay, let’s all go together."
Yueyue ran to Bai Xiaolan with joy and excitedly said, "Auntie, my mom agreed, we’re all going!"
Bai Xiaolan felt like covering her face, thinking, Kid, you sold me out too fast. You should have waited until your mom was in the kitchen to say it.
