Chapter 27: The Will of a King

Noah went toward Kurugshetra’s wall.

Nakula lay on the ground, fully bleeding.

Noah looked at Nostradamus.

"Use Zelforna’s time power. Reverse his harm."

Nostradamus looked at him, then at Nakula.

"On this mortal? Really?"

He looked at Noah and saw the determination in his eyes.

Nostradamus sighed and raised his hand.

Golden temporal light revolved around Nakula.

Bones reknit.

Torn flesh restored.

Blood reversed its path.

All his damage undone.

Nakula gasped and opened his eyes.

Then immediately closed them.

"What is this shining humanoid thing?" he muttered.

Nostradamus looked at Noah.

"It’s not my fault."

Noah sighed.

"Well, just an old companion."

Nostradamus looked at him with shock.

Nakula squeezed his eyes shut and said, "An old companion?"

He tried to look but couldn’t comprehend what it was.

Noah sighed.

"Chaos is sealed. So let’s go inside the kingdom to see how everyone is."

Nakula nodded and stood, starting to walk toward the kingdom.

Nostradamus looked at Noah.

"Why did you ask me to save this mortal?"

Noah sighed.

"I also don’t know. Maybe there will be a reason."

Why did I ask to save Nakula? he thought.

Nostradamus said, "So what work do you want from me?"

Noah sighed.

"Just see what I will do."

They entered the kingdom.

Gray.

Colorless.

The once golden kingdom of Kurugshetra was now a kingdom of grayness and hopelessness.

Dead bodies of many guards lay scattered.

Many buildings were half-vanished where Chaos minions had touched them, erased on contact.

Noah looked at Nakula.

His hands were shaking.

Then Nakula noticed Ashoka standing near Karna’s dead body.

Noah and Nakula ran toward Ashoka.

Karna lay still.

A faint smile frozen on his burned face.

Ashoka’s voice shook.

"Karna’s last words were... ’I am sorry, everyone... I can’t become what everyone wants.’"

Nakula closed his eyes.

Tears slipped down.

Nostradamus and Noah watched without speaking.

Then Noah stepped forward.

"Nakula," he said calmly, "if you want, we can bring Karna back."

Nakula and Ashoka both froze in shock.

Nakula looked at him.

Noah could sense that he wanted to say yes. The desire was there. Strong. Immediate.

But he didn’t say it.

Nakula took a deep breath.

"Thanks for the offer," he said quietly.

He looked at Karna’s dead body, then back at Noah.

"But let Karna be dead. I don’t want to disturb him in his afterlife."

Nostradamus nodded.

Noah looked at him.

"Okay. If this is your wish, then that’s it."

Guards came and lifted Karna’s body, placing the two spears Noah had used beside him.

They carried him away with dignity.

Noah sighed.

"Nakula, I have a plan for your kingdom."

Nakula looked at him.

"Yeah, sure. Tell me."

"Well, I think you have to make a new kingdom. And we have to erase this one. I’m not saying destroy it, but make it better."

Nakula looked at him and didn’t speak for some seconds.

Then he said, "I know what you mean. But the people of the kingdom don’t have any will now."

Noah looked at him.

"A king’s will is the will of his subjects. If you are the prince of this kingdom with your brothers, then you have to be the king’s will too."

Nakula looked at him.

"Okay. I will try."

They walked toward the public area where the people were.

Nakula stepped to the stone wall and said, "OPEN."

The gate opened.

Noah noticed there were many people inside.

He looked at Nostradamus.

"For some time, go and rest. I will call you again."

Nostradamus looked at him and vanished, clearly annoyed.

Noah looked at the people.

Nakula raised his voice.

"People of Kurugshetra, we won the war!"

The people were all in hopelessness and sadness.

Noah sighed.

"Nakula, do you have any weapon that can teleport people away from the kingdom?"

Nakula looked at him.

"Yeah, we have one. But it will take ten rounds to teleport all people away. But why do you want that?"

Noah sighed.

"Just do it if you want to help your people."

Nakula looked at him, then at his people.

He sighed and nodded.

"Guards, go and bring MOVITIAL."

The artifact was brought forth.

Ten rotations.

Wave after wave of citizens vanished from the ruined city, reappearing atop a flat mountain outside its borders.

The wounded.

The soldiers.

The dead bodies too.

All moved.

When everyone was teleported away, Noah and Nakula stood alone in the empty kingdom.

Noah looked at the sky.

"Nostradamus. Use your rejection authority on the whole kingdom of Kurugshetra."

Nakula looked at him with confusion.

Suddenly, Nakula saw the bright light he’d seen with Noah earlier. It appeared for a second.

Then—

The entire city vanished.

Walls.

Towers.

Gold.

Ash.

Hopelessness embedded in its foundation.

Gone.

Not destroyed.

Removed.

As if it had never stood there.

On the mountain, the displaced citizens fell to their knees.

Some wept.

Some shouted.

"The Great God helped us! The Great God gave us salvation!"

Noah looked at Nakula.

"I will give you all the gold and everything. Rebuild your kingdom."

Nakula looked at him with shock.

"Why... why did you help me so much?"

Noah sighed.

"I also don’t know. But I am the King of Kings, and all the worlds are my subjects. All the residents in the worlds are also my subjects. So just think I am doing my job."

Nakula looked at him and nodded.

Noah raised his hand.

A golden portal opened.

Resources poured out.

Stone.

Timber.

Metal.

Gold enough to rebuild without greed.

All the materials for making houses. All the gold they needed to buy things.

Nakula dropped to one knee.

"Thank you, Noah, for protecting my people and my kingdom. I am indebted to you forever."

Noah looked at him.

"Don’t worry. Every creation is indebted to me. So you don’t have to take it as the final goal. You have a great life ahead. Follow it."

He started leaving.

Nakula stepped forward.

"Here is your pass for Solaris. I made it in advance."

Noah took the pass.

"Well, all the best for this new life."

Noah look toward the sky.

Real sky is still open and but it might not be that dangerous.

He turned away.

"Nostradamus, teleport me to the Solaris kingdom, then you can leave."

Nostradamus sighed.

"REJECTION."

The distance between Noah and Solaris kingdom was rejected.

Noah appeared in front of the Solaris kingdom instantly.

He could see that same unicorn seller still selling unicorns.

Noah sighed.

He remember about Nyx where he met him here and can feel fragment of Victoria is still inside him.

Nostradamus returned to the Abyssal world.

Noah looked at the gate of the Solaris kingdom.

Now I get close to my goal.

He walked toward the gate to enter the kingdom.
