Be Careful, Scum Dad! Mommy Is Back!-Chapter 25 - : Ji Zhazha Coaxes Children and Tricks His Ex-Wife!
Chapter 25: Chapter 25: Ji Zhazha Coaxes Children and Tricks His Ex-Wife!
Lu Nuonuo was tiny, nestled in Lu Xining’s arms.
Hearing his words, the little one’s dark eyes widened, her lips pouted, she could hardly believe the adult would lie to such an adorable child.
Just now, he had clearly told her that her brother was at home, but now he said he didn’t know where her brother was if not with their mother.
Lu Nuonuo’s little face fell, her innocent eyes looking at him accusingly, “Uncle, you’re lying to a child!”
Being stared at with eyes that seemed to be looking at a liar, Ji Muye’s ears felt a little hot. The little one’s soft, chubby cheeks were puffed up like a little puffer fish,
giving him a sense of familiarity he felt he’d known before.
...
He ruffled the child’s thick black hair and promised, “Saturday morning, uncle will have someone bring your brother to play with you.”
The “brain of the brother” Lu Nuonuo immediately brightened up with a smile.
She held up two fingers and shook them, looking into Ji Muye’s eyes with expectation, “Play for two days.”
Ji Muye agreed, “Okay, two days.”
The little one’s eyes twinkled with merriment; she turned around and hugged Lu Xining’s neck, cooing, “Mommy, I’m sleepy.”
Lu Xining kissed her daughter’s cheek, soft and fair, smooth and lustrous like a peeled egg.
“Mommy will carry you back to sleep.”
She turned to look at Ji Muye, said nothing, but the intention to see him out was quite clear, and Ji Muye picked up on it.
Watching the man leave, she carried her daughter upstairs.
Before falling asleep, the little one snuggled closer to her and affectionately rubbed her cheek, her eyes full of dependence and love for her.
“Nuonuo loves Mommy.”
Lu Xining’s heart was deeply touched by her words.
“Mommy loves you too.”
After putting the little one to sleep, she checked her phone and viewed the surveillance footage of the villa, seeing how the child had moved from her room to Ji Muye’s side.
Lu Xining watched as her daughter, in the surveillance footage, cuddled up to Ji Muye, and even though she didn’t know he was her father, she instinctively drew close to and trusted him, reaching out for cuddles.
That was the power of blood ties…
She spent a moment on the balcony in the cold breeze, sorting her chaotic thoughts before returning to her room, only lying beside the bed once her body had warmed up enough to snuggle into the covers with the sweetly sleeping little one.
In the blink of an eye, the weekend arrived.
Early in the morning, Lu Nuonuo was eagerly anticipating the arrival of Ji Chao and Ji Ze.
But as the minutes and seconds ticked by…
No car from the Ji Family appeared, and Ji Chao’s phone was unreachable.
Little Dumpling lay on the living room sofa, her small face resting on her little hands, her large watery eyes unwaveringly watching the yard’s entrance.
She kept looking back and asking, “Has brother not arrived?”
Lu Xining started to worry if something had happened to them.
If Ji Muye had promised to send the two children over, he wouldn’t have changed his mind last minute—of that much, she still trusted him.
She held her daughter close and calmly said, “Don’t worry, Nuobao; brother might have been delayed by something, Mommy will make a phone call to ask.”
Lu Nuonuo nodded obediently, “Wait for brother.”
Lu Xining dialed Ji Chao’s number again, but it still was busy.
After hesitating repeatedly, she still dialed the number that had been etched in her heart two years ago.
The phone rang three times and was picked up by the person on the other end.
Ji Muye’s deep voice came through.
Her hand holding the phone tightened as she identified herself.
“I’m Lu Xining.”
Ji Muye glanced at the unfamiliar number on his phone and after a pause continued, “What’s the matter?”
There were faint sounds of a doctor making rounds in the background.
Lu Xining’s heart skipped a beat—could it be the children were in the hospital?
“You promised Nuonuo to bring the kids over today.”
Ji Muye then remembered the promise.
Two consecutive days of overtime had exacerbated his headaches; he squeezed his forehead and apologized.
Lu Xining asked anxiously, “I heard the voice of a doctor, are the children hospitalized? Ji Muye, don’t hide it from me.”
She thought back to how Ji Chao had looked, sitting alone on the hospital’s terrace, vulnerable and helpless, a memory that caused heartache every time she recalled it.
Ji Muye heard the urgency in her voice and explained, “No, it’s Liu Xixi who was in a car accident and hospitalized; I brought the two children to visit her.”
Lu Xining’s heart, which she had been holding, returned to its place.
The little one in her arms looked up at her eagerly, and Lu Xining’s heart softened as she kissed her cheek.
She said to Ji Muye, “When will you bring the kids over?”
A morning passed.
Lu Nuonuo had been looking forward to the arrival of her two brothers.
Lu Xining couldn’t bear to see her upset, “If it’s not convenient for you, I can come over to pick up the children.”
This time Ji Muye really forgot because of his busy work schedule.
“I’m afraid it won’t work today; Ji Chao and Ji Ze are going with me to the Liu Family for dinner before they leave.”
“I’ll send them over tomorrow morning.”
Little Dumpling tucked her face into her hoodie, staring longingly at her phone, and tugged at her sleeve.
Lu Xining hugged the child, kissing and coaxing, “My dear, your brothers are busy today; they’ll come and play with you tomorrow.”
The little one pursed her lips, her eyes reddened, and she muttered particularly aggrievedly into the phone, “Uncle is a liar.”
She got down from Lu Xining’s arms and ran toward the stairs.
“Nuonuo!”
Lu Xining quickly dropped her phone and rushed to catch and embrace her.
She gently patted her back, “Brother really has something today; in a bit, mommy will take you to the amusement park to ride the carousel, okay?”
The soft Little Dumpling, with both hands tightly gripping Lu Xining’s collar, cried in heaving sobs and still shook her head.
Her little face turned red from crying; her voice was tender and extremely plaintive.
“Uncle lied to me.”
Lu Xining did everything she could to console the little one, who eventually fell asleep on her shoulder from crying too hard.
Crying so forcefully, red lines had formed between her brows, and sweat was on her forehead; her hair, soft and smooth, clung to her face, and her clothes were slightly cool.
She took the child upstairs to change her clothes.
Only when her daughter was sound asleep did she go downstairs to get her phone and go back up.
The call had not been disconnected.
On the other side of the phone, Ji Muye had been waiting in the hospital corridor.
The sounds from the other side were intermittent.
Little Dumpling’s aggrieved crying, Lu Xining’s cooing to the child, their steps going upstairs, Lu Xining coming back down…
Until her voice once again came through from the other side of the phone.
Lu Xining’s voice was tired; she didn’t argue with him nor did she taunt him; she simply said one sentence before hanging up.
“Ji Muye, don’t make promises to children that you can’t keep.”
The phone once again emitted a busy tone.
Ji Muye knelt and leaned against the hospital corridor wall, his tall figure revealing a hint of exhaustion, his brain aching faintly.
His mind was filled with images of the little one’s dependency when she asked for a hug that night, and the anticipation she had upon hearing that Ji Chao and Ji Ze would come play with her on the weekend.
Following that, the two sentences Lu Nuonuo had said on the phone echoed in his ears, each word tightening around his heart.
Uncle is a liar…
Uncle lied to me…
He could even “see” her hanging her head, the two Little Jiu Jius swinging in a display of aggrievement.
Ji Muye straightened up, tall and dignified, like a green pine, his handsome black eyes taking on a gentle moisture as he returned to the sick room to say farewell to the roomful of Liu Family members.
Liu Xixi’s hand under the blanket tightened around the bedsheet, biting her lower lip as she anxiously asked, “Aye, aren’t you staying with me?”
Ji Muye apologized.
“You take good care of your injury, and if you need anything you can contact Yan Dong.”

Liu Xixi struggled to get out of bed to pull him back, also fearing she’d annoy him, and spoke cautiously, “Where are you going?”
Ji Muye led the two children toward the door of the sick room.
“I promised a little girl something at home, and I forgot.”
“Now, I have to go and apologize to her.”
