Be Careful What You Wish For: A Zombie Apocalypse-Chapter 416: Something Important
Chapter 416: Something Important
The golf cart stopped in front of a set of wrought iron gates where pink and red climbing roses added both a touch of beauty and pain to whoever tried to climb them.
"This will be your house. You don’t have to worry about neighbors; the closest people are a retired military general who just wants to live out the rest of his life in peace and quiet, and one of the main scientists on base. The back of your property is also fenced in, and beyond that, it connects to a swamp marsh."
Eric continued to hype up the property like he was a real estate agent as he jumped out of the cart and unlocked the gates. "There are eight bedrooms, nine bathrooms, two living rooms, two kitchens, an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, as well as a weight room, and kennels in the backyard. Everything inside has been based on what I saw in your home, so you shouldn’t have any problems settling in."
"My house only has one bedroom," I pointed out, even as I stared at the path forward. I had expected everything to be bright and airy. The typical plantation house with white siding, white columns, and a wrap-around porch.
Instead, what greeted me was something out of a gothic wet dream. Everywhere I looked, it was black with an eggplant purple trim. Even the columns and wrap-around porch were done in black with multiple chairs and small tables.
In fact, if I hadn’t created my own house... this would have definitely been my dream house. Even if it was missing a moat for Tink. Meh, I guess it couldn’t have everything.
"Do you like it?" asked Eric, as if waiting for my answer. I looked around at the trees and plants that decorated the front lawn and narrowed my eyes as I saw some very familiar vines reaching out to wrap around the trunks of trees.
Just how did Country N’s plants end up here in Country M? I mean, I had plans to do it, but I thought I needed to take a much more proactive role in it all. Maybe that also explained why whatever was inside Alicia’s father had the same feeling as the jungle.
"It’s nice," I finally admitted, looking at the golden retriever in front of me, begging for praise.
"Like I said, I did it for you. If there is anything wrong or I am missing something, then just let me know, and I’ll get it done. I want you to be happy here," smiled Eric as we got out of the cart and walked toward the front door.
The massive black door wasn’t even locked, and Eric simply opened it. "Welcome home, Hattie. I am so happy to have you here."
Taken aback, I cocked my head to the side. I don’t think that anyone had ever welcomed me home or told me that they were happy I was there. Don’t get me wrong, Daddy and Tank weren’t stingy when it came to compliments, but not even they welcomed me home.
"Get bug spray," I sighed, coming to a decision. "A lot of it. You are going to have some infestations soon, and if you don’t want more people to die, you’ll have to take care of it quickly."
This time, it was Eric’s turn to look at me, the smile completely gone from his face. "What do you want?" he asked. "I don’t mind whatever you decide."
"Not everyone can die," I shrugged, taking off my shoes and wandering into the house. "Someone’s made a wish, and I’m inclined to give it to him."

Luca looked at the multiple boxes of food and supplies that were piling up in front of him. There was more than what could fit into the jeeps, and he had no idea what Alicia was planning. However, he knew without a doubt that everything was well in hand.
She was always good about that. The planning, the details. She hated it when anything was off, preferring to keep everything squared away and on schedule.
"I want you to take them into your space," announced Alicia as she continued to take stock of the supplies on the clipboard in her hands. "I’ll take whatever you can’t, you don’t need to worry about that."
"Space?" asked Luca, his eyebrows rising as he looked at the woman. "I don’t understand."
"Everyone in the apocalypse has some type of mutation," she started, never looking up from her board. The moment Luca heard the word mutation, all he could picture was massive plants and a jungle, but that didn’t make any sense.
Shaking his head to clear it, he eventually nodded. "You said that."
"You and I have what we call a space power. It is an interdimensional pocket whose size is directly correlated to the amount of power you have. Space users are extremely rare; less than 0.05% of the population is a space user," she continued, checking off even more boxes as the soldiers came and told her what was in them.
When they had left, she continued. "All you should have to do is think about something. Here, let’s try something simple. You’ve used your space multiple times before, so you should still have things inside of it. Think about something that you want and hold out your hand."
"And it will just appear?" asked Luca, highly skeptical.
"Yup," nodded Alicia. "That’s how it works. Some spaces are like fridges. It keeps everything preserved for an infinite time, while others are more short-term. The users are able to put things inside, but supplies like food will quickly rot away. I am not sure which version is yours."
Luca nodded his head. Alicia had never lied to him before, so if she said that he was a space user, then that was what he was. Closing his eyes, he had no idea about what he wanted or even what was in his space.
So instead of thinking of one particular thing, he just thought about what was most important to him in his space. After all, that would kill two birds with one stone. He would be able to access his space and figure out what he had forgotten.
