Be Careful What You Wish For: A Zombie Apocalypse-Chapter 427: Agree With The Kid
Chapter 427: Agree With The Kid
"That’s why I called this meeting," agreed Alicia, her eyes never leaving Eric’s. It was like the two of them were in some sort of weird dominance battle.
"To encourage candlelight dinners? I really don’t think that warrants a meeting," sneered Eric.
"And that is where you are wrong," shrugged the woman. Slowly blinking, she turned her attention to Réne. "Human population has declined, and it is up to us to make sure that the next species to become extinct isn’t the human race."
"Spit it out," snapped Adam, his finger tapping on the table like this entire thing was beneath him. To be fair, Luca agreed with him. Having more babies was probably a conversation that Réne and Alicia should have in private.
"I am going to implement a repopulation incentive," announced Alicia. "Every man in the Sanctuary is going to be required to have a minimum of one child, with anything more being rewarded."
"You just said that men outnumber 15 to one," said Sophia softly. "There is no way that every man will be able to have an offspring."
"That is where the women need to step in and step up. Each woman will be required to give birth to a live young each year until they are no longer fertile, or donate ten viable eggs, depending on age. If the woman is young, 12-13 years old, then she will need to donate the equivalent number of eggs. If you consider menopause to happen around 50 years old, then younger women will have to donate 38 eggs... etc, etc."
There was dead silence as Alicia beamed at the four men and two women in front of her.
"You can’t be serious," said Réne, finally finding his voice.
"I’m deadly serious. Those who don’t comply will be forced from the Sanctuary, while those who do will be granted extra supplies. We have survived the zombie apocalypse, Ladies and Gentlemen, now it is time to rebuild the world," announced Alicia.
"I—" started Sophia, looking around the room. "I don’t think I can agree with that. Libby is almost... I just can’t put her through that."
"She doesn’t have to donate her eggs," assured Alicia, and Sophia let out a sigh of relief. "She is more than welcome to take multiple partners as soon as she gets her period and let nature take its course. Like I said, this is for the betterment of all mankind. As women, we can’t be selfish. Men have needs, too."
"I have to say," muttered Eric, flinging his feet off the table and standing up. Ever so slowly, he started clapping his hands. "Just when I think you can’t hit a new low, you manage to outdo yourself. When you were a kid, did you ever think that you were going to grow up to be a tyrant, or is that just an added bonus?"
"I’m not a tyrant," hissed Alicia. Placing her palms on the table, she leaned forward and stared down the other man. "I am doing what is necessary to protect the human race, which is a fuck ton better than what you are currently doing. Tell me, Eric. What have you done to make sure that the world is a better place?"
"I’m not doing anything," replied Eric, a smirk on his face. "But I’m also sure as hell ain’t advocating for the forced breeding of women as young as 12. You do know that the legal age is 18, right?"
"It was," nodded Alicia, "When the world was a different place. But in the Middle Ages, as soon as a girl got her period, she was up and married."
"Back then, humans weren’t expected to live past 40," reminded Sophia. "Now we’ve more than doubled that age, and still people are living longer. Don’t forget, at some point in time, our supplies are going to run out. What are you going to do then?"
"We go out to find more supplies. With Luca’s space, we can keep things infinitely fresh," came the quick reply. "Look, I don’t need your permission. I am telling you that this is the next thing we are implementing, and I’ll be informing everyone tomorrow."
"And what if women don’t want more than one man?" asked Eve, her voice soft. She looked over at Adam as if expecting him to object to the very idea of sharing her with someone else, but he remained silent, his eyes glazed over as if he was already thinking of something else.
"Why are so many people so selfish?" sighed Alicia, flopping into her chair like a puppet with its strings cut. "When we get the population back up to manageable levels, then of course this won’t be enforced. But until then, we have to ensure our survival."
"How do you stop fights?" asked Eric. "I mean, some women are more desirable than others."
"Then we make it fair," shrugged Alicia, sitting back up. "There will be no choosing. Women will have their names put into a hat so that the men can draw a name. That way, there is no playing favorites."
"And once again, rock bottom has a new level," sneered Eric. "Leave me out of this."
"No can do," shrugged Alicia, the smile on her face actually happy like she was giddy to deliver this bad news to him. "You’re one of the men in Sanctuary. I expect to hear good news from you soon. I know several women who would love to be picked by you."
"I will kill you," announced Eric, his eyes going to Luca. "And I don’t think that I will be the only one. They say that men’s lips are the Devil’s lies... but I think that you just might be the Devil himself with how fast you want to send us to Hell."
Alicia was about to interject, but Luca beat her to it. "I’d shut your mouth if I were you," he said, his voice completely dead as his eyes shone a bright green color. "The Devil might take that personally."
"The Devil won’t need to lift a finger," sneered Eric, turning his anger to Luca. "I’ll be more than happy to be her knife."
Stalking out of the room, Eric slammed the door behind him. The windows on the far side shook with the force of the impact, but Adam only shook his head. "I never thought I’d agree with the kid, but here we are."
