Be Careful What You Wish For: A Zombie Apocalypse-Chapter 444: A Band-Aid Solution
Chapter 444: A Band-Aid Solution
I looked at the bright silver canister in Eric’s hand, sparking in the middle of the afternoon. It was like some holy beacon, a promise to those who were scared.
"We’re saved," sighed one of the women even as she collapsed into the arms of the man beside her. "Thank you." Bursting out crying, she clung to the man as her legs gave out from under her.
I couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow as she looked at Eric like he had hung the sun, the moon, and all the stars, completely ignoring the man who was actually keeping her upright. Eric smirked before winking at me.
Holding the can out, he pressed down on the button, sending a white cloud out. Everything that it touched froze. The centipedes fell over, their legs in the air as they twitched one final time.
"It works," sighed a man as he dropped to his knees and picked up the thing. Holding it between his thumb and index finger like a limp noodle, he shook it back and forth a few times. The goofy grin on his face as he looked at the crowd around him in childish wonder made me feel slightly guilty.
These centipedes weren’t going to die that easily. Did Eric not remember Walt’s wish? He wanted things to be fun and interesting. If the bugs died that easily, it wouldn’t be fun, and it definitely wouldn’t be interesting.
As if to prove my point, the centipede, clearly biding its time, lunged forward. The thing that was the size of my hand hung onto the man’s face like a face hugger before disappearing into his mouth.
"I don’t think it worked," I announced, blinking as the man’s eyes went blank for a second before he spun around and tried to race away. Wrath, like a predator seeing prey, ran after him.
The poor bug dude didn’t stand a chance with Wrath, and before I could even blink, my Sin was carrying the man back by the back of his collar. "What do you want to do with him?" he asked, looking directly at me even as he threw the man at my feet.
"Well, I don’t want to keep him," I replied, more than a little confused. I mean, I get that when cats bring back dead animals, it was supposed to be a sign of loyalty or something, but I really didn’t want to keep yet another man. "Kill him."
A gasp came from around me as people started protesting. "You can’t just kill him! He is a living person!" exclaimed a teenager even as she pushed closer to Pride. "Let him go, or else you are going to be a murderer."
"Oh... no," I deadpanned. "Not a murderer. Anything but that. I mean, with the number of spiders and mosquitoes I’ve killed, I really have to be a serial killer by now. My body count has to be in the thousands by now."
The teenager looked at me in a way that only female teenagers could, and I couldn’t help rolling my eyes. "Did you also fight for the zombies, too?" I asked, cocking my head to the side. Just when I think that humanity had finally reached rock bottom, they always seemed to come up with a whole new level.
"Zombies have to eat too, you know," sneered the girl, looking down her nose at me. "Besides, thanks to people like you, the zombies have become extinct right now. We need to look into bringing them back and integrating them more into our society."
See, whole new level of low. Nodding my head, I pointed at the guy who was, even now, trying to scurry away. "He’s no longer human. He has a bug in his head that is telling his body what to do, but the person who was in control before? He’s gone."
"You don’t know that," stomped the teenager, even as she looked up at Pride for support. "There could still be a part of the man in there."
Really, it was like talking to a brick wall or something. It was borderline painful.
"I don’t get it," grumbled Eric, looking at the bug spray. "I thought for sure it would work."
Walking away from Envy, I clasped Eric on his shoulder before holding out my hand for the spray. "That’s cause you are doing it wrong," I assured him. Taking the can, I then gave it to Lust. "Light it up."
Lust’s eyes went wide with pleasure as he called on his fire powers. Pressing down the top button, he created a mini flamethrower. This time, when the fire hit the bugs, there was an overwhelming screaming sound coming from the creatures as they fought to extinguish the flame.
"When in doubt, add fire," I nodded sagely before letting the guys go have fun. "I’m going back to bed. While I used to believe that I would sleep when I was dead, I can no longer hold on to that."
Snapping my fingers, I found myself in the magical shower where just yesterday, I was enjoying my time with Tank and Dimitri. Looking up at the faucets that were raining on me, I couldn’t hold back the smile when I saw the vine hanging down over my head.
"You are just popping up everywhere, aren’t you?" I purred, even as I flicked the leaf that was uncurling toward me. Quickly, because time was of the essence, I rinsed all the blood off of me before I darted into the bed and hid under the covers.
Maybe, just maybe, if I didn’t move, no one would be able to see me.

"Brings new meaning to burning down the world for her," snickered Sloth as he held the lighter in his hand right in front of the can of bug spray. The flames didn’t burn nearly as hot as the ones that Lust and the other fire users were able to produce, but Sloth was enjoying drawing out the final moments of the bug’s life.
"I still think that it would be easier to just burn down the entire Sanctuary," grunted Pride as he pried one of the manhole covers off. Underneath was nothing but black wiggling creatures as they rushed away from the sunlight. "Right now, it feels like we are just putting a Band-Aid on the whole thing and calling it a day."
