Be Careful What You Wish For: A Zombie Apocalypse-Chapter 477: East Vs West
Chapter 477: East Vs West
The atmosphere in the RV became even more tense as the two deaths continued to stare each other down, neither one backing away.
I heard someone holding their breath, just waiting for the world to end... and yet, nothing happened.
"A bit anti-climactic," I grumbled to myself, almost looking forward to the world tearing itself apart.
"You aren’t a reaper anymore," growled Liu Wei, a look of concern on his face as he turned to look at me. "He isn’t a reaper."
"He’s not a reaper and I don’t have a flame," I shrugged. "I also didn’t save the Healer when I could have. Is there anything else I am being blamed for? Might as well spit it all out now."
"You popped into our RV without notice," reminded Liu Yu Zeng with a bright smile on his face. "You can’t forget that one. That is what is going to cause your death at the end of the day."
"Did you really just figure that out now?" smirked Chang Xuefeng, looking down at Liu Wei. "You are Death," he continued, the smile turning more and more sinister. "You are still chained to your very nature. That is the difference between you and me."
"I’m not chained to anything," snarled Liu Wei, the image of his human body flickering just slightly as he gently pushed Li Dai Lu to the side. "I am..."
"Chained," agreed Daddy. Reaching over, he plucked me from Dimitri’s arms and brought me closer to him. Burying my face in his neck, I breathed in the unique scent that was my Reaper. I didn’t care what Liu Wei had to say. I knew who Chang Xuefeng was.
He was mine.
"I am not chained!" Liu Wei’s voice echoed around the RV, causing the entire thing to shake. I was sure that if humans were around, they might begin to panic, but not a single person reacted to his temper tantrum.
"Sure you are," smirked Daddy. "You are chained to your brothers. You can’t go anywhere without them; they lead, you follow. And until you are willing to change that, to break the chains binding you to the rest of the Horsemen... and she who controls them... then you will always be nothing more than Death."
"Then what are you?" asked Li Dai Lu, cocking her head to the side as she pulled out a mug of coffee from her space. The mug was actually kind of cute with the words: ’Roses are red, violets are blue, I’ve watched enough murder shows, they’ll never find you’ written on the side with blood splatter in the background. "You don’t have a flame either. I have never met someone without a flame."
"Well... if you’ve never met them, then they must not exist," agreed Eric, adding a bit of lighter fluid to the fire. "Oh... right... there are two in this very room."
"More," admitted Li Dai Lu through gritted teeth. "You don’t have one either."
"I always knew I was special," agreed Eric, frantically nodding his head as he turned to look at me. "See, I’m special, just like you. That means you have to keep me forever and ever and ever."
My giggle was drowned out by Li Dai Lu’s sigh. "Fine," snarled the other woman. "That’s my wish. I want to know exactly why you and two others don’t have flames."
"What’s your sacrifice?" I purred, already knowing exactly how this deal was going to be written. I wanted something very specific from this woman. I just needed to know the carrot that will make her agree to my way of thinking.
"What do you want it to be?" she asked, taking a sip of her coffee. Her face was completely impassive, but I knew exactly what she was thinking.
She wanted to kill me.
"I don’t ever want to be drawn to this side of the world again. I don’t want to have to be at your beck and call every time you or one of yours thinks of something. I want nothing to do with you."
"That was a lot of words... and yet... not a single point was made," sneered Li Dai Lu.
"My hands are full," I said slowly, looking down at the shorter woman (thank you, Daddy, for holding me). "I want to divide the world into two. You will have your side, I’ll have mine, and we don’t ever intermingle."
"I would almost be offended," nodded Li Dai Lu. "If I didn’t feel the exact same way. I’ll take the East. We’ll call it Elysian Fields, and no one... not a single demon or one of your humans will be allowed to step foot on my land."
Smiling brightly, I regally nodded my head. "I’ll claim the West. It will be called the Devil’s Playground. It will be a safe haven for demons and any humans currently on my side. We’ll divide the world from north to south, cutting through the ocean."
"My side is bigger," purred Li Dai Lu. "Are you sure you want that?"
"Smaller land, less people, less wishes. Oh yeah, I’ll be perfectly happy with the West," I agreed. Suddenly, a bright golden contract appeared in the air between me and Li Dai Lu. It looked like the contract I had signed when I agreed to grant wishes, but this one was much longer... and much more intimidating.
Patting Daddy, he slowly lowered me to the ground. "In exchange for knowing why we don’t have flames, you and I will divide the world in two. No expiration date, no going back. The second you sign this contract, it will go into effect. Not even death will set you free."
"I can’t seem to die," she shrugged, grabbing the feather pen that was floating in the air beside the contract. "I agree."
With a flourish, she signed her name before handing the pen to me.
Snapping my fingers, my signature automatically appeared on the paper. "Deal accepted," announced the female voice.
"So," grunted Wang Chao. "Why not flames?"
"Isn’t it obvious?" chuckled Daddy, picking me back up in his arms. "The Original Gods can’t die."
"That’s not true," replied Chen Zi Han. "We’ve met some of the gods, and even they have a flame."
"Stupid demi-god," grunted Dante, speaking for the first time. "He said the Original Gods. The ones you have met are children of children of children."
